said I would make a more eye-catching psa about this, here it is

Why shouldn't #radio silence be used?

Radio Silence is the name of a book set in the heartstopper universe by alice oseman.

(which also features a canon aspec character, pictured on the right: aled last!)

and as such: #radio silence is their MAIN FANDOM tag. it is inconsiderate to flood their tag with content from another fandom, especially one as popular as hazbin hotel. but unfortunately, this is something that is already happening because of radiosilence as a ship tag.

and if you're not convinced this is something that bothers radio silence fans, here's some input from the fans themselves:

it's better than the mistagging of #radio silence with the space. but ONLY on tumblr, because on tumblr, we're allowed the privilege of adding spaces to tags.

I still would like to discourage it though, because for as long as this tag is popularly in use, there will constantly be people mistagging it with a space. I've done what I could to nudge people to fix their tagging but I can't constantly keep this up.

plus, on other sites such as tiktok and twitter, #radiosilence IS literally the main tag for the book because you literally can't add spaces for tags on those sites. so the radio silence book fandom is likely even more drowned out on those sites than here on tumblr because of the popularisation of #radiosilence as a tag for one-sided radiostatic.

I will not be forcing anyone to ditch #radiosilence without the space as a tag though, especially when it's already so popularly used and essentially impossible to get everyone to change it, but I encourage you to go for other options if you are willing to such as:

decided via a poll last month that was ongoing before #radiosilence was initially popularised, held by ChaoticAce2005 and me.

it's the tag that I always use for one-sided radiostatic and is decently used by others as well! and you won't run into any issue with clashing with the radio silence/osemanverse fandom at all this way. but again, I will not force you, all I ask is that AT THE VERY LEAST, don't tag #radio silence with the space and to nudge others to change it if they do.

please help to silence the radio silence tag!

(the tagging issue on tiktok and twitter are outside of my jurisdiction as I don't engage with hazbin on twitter and I don't even use tiktok, but if possible, it would be appreciated if anyone is able to spread the alternate tag #onewaybroadcast on those sites too to discourage flooding the radio silence book fandom! I believe the original person to coin #radiosilence has been doing work to discourage it on tiktok too, any help is appreciated!)

can't remember if I have but hmmmm trying to think how that would work because I see angel dust as also not knowing that he himself is asexual (and this is something I can relate to in like a "oh there's no way I'm aro/ace because I'm favourable!" way and then you later learn that oh wait actually favourability doesn't make you any less aspec) but it'd be funny in that they're both clueless about it and then like act like sexual attraction isn't real and agree on it. like "oh yeah everyone is totally exaggerating I mean I exaggerate soooo" and alastor is like "yes that makes complete sense. it's ludicrous for anyone to actually be serious about that" and they're both totally convinced this is true. they're aspec-bonding but neither of them know it

and sure, meanwhile vox is stalking them and sees them together (idk maybe they're doing something outside the hotel so vox's cameras can actually see them) and val also sees them and both of them make completely incorrect assumptions and lose their minds for same but different reasons (the concept of alastor + angel dust bonding making voxval flip the fuck out is incredibly funny)

something i enjoy about blitzø as well is that he's not a typical leading man for an action show, nor is he a typical leading man for a queer show. he's capable and got that "extremely bad at communication" thing down you might see in a lot of narratives about straight guys (especially straight guys who shoot guns) but i think is less explored with queer men, and he's also incredibly camp without any shame attached to queerness itself, he crossdresses, he's a punky goth gay, he flirts relentlessly (and often unhealthily) to get what he wants, he's got that kinky switch energy, and he's exuberant, and emotionally closed off, and incredibly rude, and very sad, and very caring, and very action-hero/anti-hero, and all in a narrative that explores these dynamics from an explicitly queer point of view.

i think it's amazing that he's as well-received as he is, considering how much he exists outside of clear categories for what people think a character "should" be, but i've seen him play well for bro-ey types as well as the most faggoty audience members (that's me), and the translation isn't for the queer audience to make, it's for straight audiences to get onboard with a complex queer character and it clearly works!

there's really something to be said about the queer lens for both of the shows, but i do think blitzø has such a specific fascinating pov for what one might call the "badass action guy who's also great at seduction" type character. he's really hitting some extremes for the spectrum of how one typically allows characters to exist

Say what you will about Hazbin Hotel but I’ve never seen a fandom decide to make a separate ship tag because a ship is REALLY FUNNY and more canon accurate if it’s specifically one-sided and kinda pathetic so they wanted to more easily find purely one-sided content of it

okay alastor's response of learning about the term "asexual" by responding with "a sexual? I'd say I'm the furthest thing from it" IS very funny but have we considered that he HAS heard the word before but not in the modern way. he's only heard of it used in the context of asexual reproduction. or asexual plants. he does not believe either applies to him.
