sorry alastor, you advocate for the classics and find progress for the sake of progress distasteful because YOU were never 3 (three) feet tall. "if it ain't broke don't fix it" doesn't apply if it IS BROKE

like yeah, personally ripping out your own limbs and organs to replace with newer artificial models on a regular basis is pure unadulterated body horror, but i'd rather not exist in a realm of 10 foot tall moth pimps as some dweeb the same size as a handbag

This is the start of a series i posted on instagram a WHILE ago, i was playing with vox's head and fashion designs through the decades as TVs developed and it turned into big word blurbs with alastor and their relationship over the years. It does turn into a fuller comic later bc i started making it Complicated and Sad.

This is the 1950's, i based him off 1950s Philco Television sets! Theyre pretty nice looking and he gives the vibes of a ceo that would own a shiny set like that. Did you know? Color television was first tested in 1949-51? But it was illegal to distribute! There was one color broadcast in 1953 that was only shown to ONE network headquarters! Households, however, would still have black and white in the 50s. Hence why i made him b&w, thats how audiences would percieve him on screen, thats how they see him now offscreen.

I feel like he was a network tycoon of sorts who was developing a monopoly on the tv business at the time who just kept wanting MORE. Definitely a broadcaster himself who probably let the fans feed his ego and found his ways to manipulate them. I feel like he fell towards the end of the 50's once TV had taken its hold, allowing him to claim that business hed attatched himself to on earth. He sees al, a fellow broadcaster, as great for business and himself. Because who wouldnt want the radio guy 's powers to add onto your monopoly on YOUR team? Its good for business since all technology runs on radio waves

Alastor is apprehensive of course but interested to see if this guy rises or falls.

Doing full illustration is not exactly my thing (because i get distracted waaaay too easily and I am not great with colors and stuff)

But they all look high as fuck so there is that

i’m not denying that Hazbin Hotel has problems, i can love a show and acknowledge their flaws at the same time

but as for my take on three common complaints that nobody asked for:

“there’s too much swearing!”

yeah, that’s true. however, people can lose or gain accents from living in certain areas, and people get a ‘tumblr accent’ from being here. maybe it’s the same w/ Hell and swearing? nobody’s discouraging it, and there’s no reason to censor yourself

“there’s so much RED!”

yeah, that too. but first off: it’s HELL. it’s red. and maybe that amount of red is also visual torture for the sinners as well? or maybe there’s a red tint from poisonous gases and fires and whatnot, idk

“why is everyone in suits and ties and top hats?!”

for a lot of history, people wore suits and ties and top hats.

(in order: 1800s, 1930s, 1950s)

yeah, there’s not a lot of variety with the designs, i acknowledge that, but people wore a lot of suits back then.

“charlie’s not from any era, she’s hellborn? no reason for HER to be in a suit”

yes, and she runs a hotel. usually hotel managers wanna look nice and professional.

they could have added more variety to the suit types, yes, but people also just.. WORE A LOT OF SUITS back then! so they’re mostly accurate?
