Kinsei R&D presents “The Rays Are Not Colored.” THEATRE E9 KYOTO, Theater’s Opening Program

The Rays Are Not Colored is the latest work by Takayuki Fujimoto (Kinsei R&D), who has worked extensively as a lighting artist for traditional performing arts, contemporary dance and entertainment live while he directs his own theater work. The dancers Hokuto Kodama and Yuko Hirai will appear in the performance. Shinya B is the dramaturge, and Masaki Teruoka is creating digital devices.

On a hill overlooking the ocean, in a small town in Japan that was hit very hard by the 2011 tsunami, is a phone booth known as the "Phone of the Wind". It is connected to nowhere, but people come to talk to their lost family and friends, finding a way to give expression to their grief and make peace with their loss. A man who has lost his parents, his wife and his 1-year old son says: “Please let me hear you call me papa”, another tells his wife: “You always forget to eat. Don’t forget to eat”. A phrase that is being used over and over again is: “Shinpai shinaide”, “Don’t worry about us”.

An international collaboration, Shinpai Shinaide is a Butoh dance and video performance about human fragility, love, loss, hope and acceptance, inspired by the Phone of the Wind and the poetic and moving words that grieving parents, sons, daughters and friends have entrusted to it.

Thank you to our generous supporters: The City of Aarhus; Augustinus Fonden; The Danish Arts Foundation; Toyota Fonden; Performing Arts Platform; Open Scene; Bora Bora. 僕が現在参加している“Shinpai Shinaide - Don’t Worry About Us”というパフォーマンス作品について。。。すこし書きます。。すこしじゃ無いです。長文です。　昨年１２月頃にアーティスト・古舘健さんを介し、イスラエル出身・デンマーク在住のダンサー・振付家のYael Gaathon- ヤエルさんからオファーを受けた。　プロジェクトのテーマが岩手県大槌町に存在する「風の電話」であると聞いた当初、それが何なのか分からなかった。 プロジェクトの概要を主催者（Yael Gaathonさん）から聞いた後、自身で「風の電話」について調べてみた。NHKが制作した「風の電話」についてのドキュメンタリーをYoutubeで見つけ、観てみたところ、今までその存在を知らなかったことを恥ずかしく思うほどに、、心を動かされ、ひどく感動した。　その時の思いとしては、、、 「外国人」がこれをテーマに作品を制作するのであれば、 「日本人」として参加し、表現しなければならないというような、、（今から考えれば浅い、、）表面的な使命感にかられ、参加を決意したのだった。 ちなみに、ヤエルさんはPodcastを介して、風の電話のことを知った、ということだった。　当初僕はプロジェクトに参加することに対し、「日本人として」というような「国籍」や「（震災の）当事国（民）」的なことを意識した動機が強かったのであるが、、、 （あとで下記する公演の概要にあるように）「風の電話」でおこる現象、大切な人を失った人々の苦痛や、愛というのは、人種や国籍など、様々な壁を超越するのもである、ということをヤエルさんから力強く伝えられ、当初の表層的な動機は、、消え去り、、改めて今回、この作品に参加することの重要性や、作品への可能性を強く感じたのだった。　そして、今年の２月にオーフス（デンマーク）にて、参加アーティスト達と顔を合わせ、公演会場でのクリエイションを開始した。 　その後、４月に主催者と3.11の被災地を訪れ、日本でのリサーチを実施した。 実際に「風の電話」にも訪問し、風の電話を造った佐々木格さんとお話しすることもできた。　私たちは、被災地を訪れ実際に空気に触れ、佐々木さんと対話するといった経験を共有できたことによって、作品への意識は一層高まった。。と、こんな感じで、以降、現在に至るまで、絶賛制作中の作品なのであります。。　 　余談、、ではあるんですが、、 オーフスでのクリエイションの時に強く感じたことがあった。今回、アメリカ、イタリア、デンマーク、イスラエル、日本と、、いろんな国からメンバーが集まっているんだけども、、イスラエル出身のアーティストが３人参加していてその３人ともがユダヤ人だった（２人はデンマーク在住で１人はアメリカ在住。みんな母国から移住している）。彼らと時間をかけて対話して、感じたことなんであるが、、、 日本人の僕と彼らとでは、決定的に何かが違うと感じた。。彼らはイスラエルで生まれ育ったのであるが、多くの日本人にとっては考えられないような（少なくとも僕には考えられない）理由で移住を強いられている状況にあった。母国を離れても自分たちのアイデンティティを確立している強さはもちろん、、、 なによりも、「人の痛み」に対する鋭敏な感覚を、、 僕は彼らから一番感じ取った、、というか、 その鋭い神経、、、に、圧倒された。。 要は、、本当の優しさ、、みたいなものを感じとって、、 強く動揺してしまったのだ。彼らとコミュニケーションすることによって、、 僕は、これまで、安全な場所から、、 何かしらの、対立や軋轢、葛藤などを、、 考えたり、訴えたり、、お粗末にも表現したり、、しようとしたり、、していたわけであるが、、、 なにより、そういったテーマを扱うことで、 満足してしまっていた自分に気づかされ、、 心底嫌気がさしてしまったのだった。何世代も前から、外的な要因によって、生死に関わるような状況で生きてきている人たちと、対等に話すことが、とても難しことのようにに感じてしまった。 そいうった、様々な困難な状況や、社会の構造自体を、受け入れている彼らにビビってしまったのだと思う。未だに、この時感じた衝撃は、新鮮に残っていて、、 でも、あの時、逃げ出さず、閉じ籠らず、、最後まで彼らと言語、非言語による対話を続けることをして、続けてくれて、、 結果、得るものは本当に多かったように思う。最後に、、 今回のプロジェクトチームは、（風の電話における現象を通した）日本人の感受性や他者に対する思いやりに、世界の困難な状況を突破するための可能性を見出していることを、忘れずお伝えしたいと思います。【以下英語で書かれた作品の概要を日本語に訳したものです。】On a hill overlooking the ocean in Otsuchi, a small town in Japan that was hit very hard by the 2011 tsunami, is a phone booth known as "Phone of the Wind". It is connected to nowhere, but people come to talk to their lost family and friends, finding a way to give expression to their grief and make peace with their loss.2011年の津波で⼤打撃を受けた日本の小さな町・大槌町の、海が見渡せる丘の上に「風の電話」 という電話ボックスがあります。電話ボックスの中には古い黒電話がありますが、線は繋がって おらずどこにも���じていません。 しかし、人々は失った家族や友人と話をするためにその電話ボックスへ訪れます。そして彼らは、大切な人を失った悲しみから、心の平穏を得る方法を見つけ出そうとします。Some of the conversations inside the booth were recorded by NHK (Japanese television). They are heartbreaking. A man who has lost his parents, his wife and his 1-year old son says: “Please let me hear you call me papa”, another tells his wife: “You always forget to eat. Don’t forget to eat”. A phrase that is being used over and over again is: “Shinpai shinaide”, “Don’t worry about us”.電話ボックス内の会話の一部は、NHKによって撮影されました。 彼らの声を聞くと胸が張り裂ける想いになります。 両親、妻、1歳の息子を失った男性は、「もう一度パパと呼んで」と語りかけ、 また別の男性は⾏⽅不明の妻に「ちゃんと飯くってるか?ちゃんと食べるんだよ」と話しかけます。 そして「私たちのことは心配しないで」と多くの人が何度も繰り返し話しかけます。Shinpai Shinaide is a performance about human fragility, love, loss, hope and acceptance, inspired by the Phone of the Wind and the poetic and moving words that grieving parents, sons, daughters, friends and relatives have entrusted to it.本作「Shinpai Shinaide - Don’t Worry About Us」は、⼈間の、不安定さ、愛、喪失、希望と、それらを受容することについてのパフォーマンスであり、「風の電話」と人々が失った両親、息子、娘、友人や親戚に語りかける、詩的で感動的な⾔葉に触発された作品です。In the current international atmosphere of segregation and xenophobia, it is important to connect to that which makes us human beyond country, race or religion. Dealing with loss and death is the ultimate challenge that we all share.
