“… The great does not stay great and the small not small. The night has twelve hours then the day comes already.” - Bertolt Brecht, “Das Lied von der Moldau”
And the second reference! Josi and Brecht. Definitely more realistic than Theo :’D

“… He’d rather look up at the mountain Than down at the rocks below…” - Heinrich Heine, “Ich weiß nicht, was soll es bedeuten (The Lorelei)”
Reference for Theo. I thought adding a quote might be nice…?

Dr. Daniel  Héderváry, a fresh graduate from the medical university, trying to establish himself as a better known doctor in the Berlin to Paris area, but stuck working in a general practitioner’s clinic, already frustrated with lack of progress. Extremely ambitious and political, has an opinion on everything and isn’t afraid to show it. Surprisingly strong for his… a bit smaller frame than one would expect of a man his age.
Except… He’s not a man at all.
Miss Elizaveta Héderváry wanted more than life could offer her in the social climate of the great war, and following the death of her brother Daniel, she decided to seize the moment and his passport and enrolled in a university to study medicine, which wasn’t allowed from female students, determined to become a doctor.

ICONIC MARLENE DIETRICH
In 1929 she already wore her legendary hat and tails, regular attire for Berlin standards; but which caused a scandal in puritanical U.S.

Berlin, 1928
After WW1, the gay club scene in Berlin began to flourish and the number of lesbian bars and cafés exploded. By the mid-20s there were over 50 of them in the city.

Awweee, Theo is cute! What are your favourite books, for both of you?
Theo: “Die Elenden. I mean, uh... Les Misérables. And Des Knaben Wunderhorn and the fairy tale collection of the Grimm brothers.”
Josi: “I enjoyed Les Misérables as well, though for other reasons. I don’t get to read much prose these days, but Theo has started to let me borrow some of the printed plays he owns, so I might find something nice among those.”

"We may have met at the, at the... at the library, maybe? Oh please, no need to call me Sir... Is the informal tone not rather popular in Berlin? Theodor is fine for me." @ask-comrade-braginsky (it wouldn't let me tag the other blog)

Josephine's dream had always been a career in politics. Not an easy thing to achieve in 1920s Germany, but not impossible either - at least if you go by the constitution. Her path takes her to Berlin, the city of her dreams, where she starts to study law and meets Theodor Burgdorf under less than perfect circumstances. Theodor, youngest member of a family of bureaucrats, dreams of a second age of Romanticism and hopes to find likeminded people in Berlin. A poet at heart and naïve to the core, Theodor finds a friend in Josephine - a friend without whom his unfortunate secrets would not be kept as well. //OC Ask Blog based on @paachu4dada 's Vintage Cabaret
