i am not empty. Can’t you tell from my moving muscles that all my insides are mush, that my guts have formed soup, that my fat is just that, that my heart does not beat, that my stomach is so achingly full my jaw could not take another bite, that i am a ragged doll, derived of substance and filled with rotting, sopping cotton- i am not empty. i am so full i drown in it.

(how do you teach yourself to let go? i’ve never been able to throw away the box of old school books beneath my bed, nor the pile of memories that stock themselves like ammunition in my head. breathe out your worries, some might say, but i always forget how to breathe)
