“I think classifying butter knives as ‘sharp objects' is ridiculous too, but rules are rules.” Touya didn't appear fazed by the way Shouto's two-colored eyes glared at him, his face a perfectly straight mask as he handed back the buttered slices of bread before getting up to leave the knife in the sink.

Truth was, Touya was just as watched as Shouto was. He wasn't much keeping an eye on his younger brother, more like being in the same place so they could be watched at the same time. Where Aizawa could afford to be more lax and bend the rules a little, Touya had to be extra careful: a sigle oversight could be interpreted as the wrong way.

Touya sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose as he felt an upcoming headache. Same old, same old. No matter what he did, how many people he helped, how popular he was with the general public, he'd always be the son a villain in the eyes of those in the known. Touya at least had been lucky enough that not many people were in the known; hair and eye color aside, he was very much his mother's son.

Ah, that could be another reason for Shouto's hostility, perhaps. Did he see the same thing he himself saw in the mirror everytime? The similarities with their dear mother, the pro heroine that had fallen victim to her villainoud husband? Touya could never hope to be like his mother, but people did tell him he looked a great deal like her...

“I miss her too, y'know...” he murmured, more to himself than to anyone else that could have been listening in that moment. He wasn't sure whether Shouto heard it or not, and honestly he wasn't sure which was better...

Touya gave his fellow Hunting Dog and surrogate little sister a reassuring smile, raising an heavily bandaged arm to ruffle her hair, wincing a bit as the movement pulled at the still tender skin.

“Trust me when I say it's not as bad as it used to be before the whole body enhancing thing. I would get burns all the way up to my neck.”

V. The Decline And Fall Of The Suzaku [BSD AU]

AU set in the Bungou Stray Dogs universe.

Son of a war hero, Touya was groomed from a tender age to help further his father's rise into the political scene.

His refusal to bend to his father's will brought the spiteful man to denounce him to the authorities as a dangerous Ability user, forcing the young man to run away.

The Hunting Dogs were dispatched to chase after Touya; what they found wasn't a criminal, just a scared young man with a powerful Ability he struggled to control due to his weak constitution.

Offered to join their ranks, with he right and proper training and a few operations to strengthen his physique, Touya has much better control of his Ability, although he still tends to use it only in extreme circumstances due to how destructive it is, preferring to use hand-to-hand combat most of the time.

His Ability is named "The Decline and Fall of the Suzaku", after the play of the same name by Yuukio Mishima; it allows him to generate fire from his body, the lowest temperature being at about 1500° C (2700° F), which gives his flames their typical bright blue color.

While the operations gave him a moderate level of resistance to his flames' lowest temperature, he's not 100% fireproof and vulnerable to being burned at the highest temperature he can reach without suffering from a heatstroke, about 3000° C.

"You look like you're plotting to murder someone." Touya deadpanned, eyes carefully averted from Suoh's papers as he pressed a kiss to the broker's temple "Should I be concerned?"

Tapping his pen to his paper, Jigorou scrunched up his face a little bit and sighed. Dammit, why did he always forget this persons name? He was sure it would come to him, but clearly the face he was making wasn’t a pleasant one.

Without even looking up from his phone, Touya snapped his fingers, generating a small flame to light up Jogo's cigarette.

“Ah, shit … Where’s-” He frowned a bit and tapped over his body as he tried to find where he had hidden his lighter. Cheeky thing, too good at hiding.

“We didn't celebrate Christmas much either, there was no time for festivities under Endeavor's roof. We would go to the annual Christmas party held by the Hero Commission, but that was more a matter of publicity rather than spending time together as a family, my siblings, mother and I were more like props for him to show off what a ‘good' hero he was.” Touya grimaced, clearly displeased by the memories “My siblings and I always try to visit Mother at the clinic and bring her gifts and maybe take her out for lunch or dinner if the staff lets us and her health allows it.”

He gave Suoh's hand a gentle squeeze, pulling him closer to his side “Would you like to spend Christmas together? If things go well I might actually be free for a couple days for Christmas and even New Year's Eve.”

“I don’t … understand the hype with Christmas. Maybe it’s just because it’s that typical . .  Family, holiday.” He sighed a little bit, furrowing his brow at the store front he was currently standing in front of.

“Guess when you don’t really have a family anymore, it doesn’t make too much sense.”
