Just some knowledge about psychology. Keep reading if you want to understand your dieting behaviour a little better.
Did you ever find yourself in the situation, where you stand in front of the shelve, looking at that cookie you wanted to eat for days and think „fuck it, I fasted yesterday, I will eat that cookie RIGHT NOW - because I deserve it“
So probably - yea, you deserve that cookie because you are awesone (you are!) - but thats not my point.
The psychology behind that behaviour is called „mental accounting“. Just like in the regular accounting, that means you have two accounts to sort in your actions: „good“ actions, with all the desired behaviours (such as dieting and fasting) and the „bad“ actions with all other stuff (as overeating).
Whenever you did something „good“ that means your good account goes up. It rises with every hour you fasted and every cookie you dodged. And as your „good“ account fills, your „bad“ account gets relatively smaller.
And BOOM - the cookie on the shelve attacks you.
What do you do? In your mind you did so many „good“ things and it would be time to level your accounts by eating the damn cookie.
But you are wrong. Do not eat the cookie. You might have two unleveled accounts by that time, but a „good“ account filled up to the rim is the thing that lets you progress. So if you ever find yourself in front of that shelve again just remember:
Just because you've been good in the past doesn't mean you can throw all your principles overboard now.
