Original Instagram post: December 22nd, 2016: My surgery is tomorrow morning. Yes, I have cancer again. As some of you may know, when I was 11 years old I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. I went through multiple surgeries, I had six months of alternative medicine, l had one of my ovaries removed, then I went through six months of chemo. My mom created the reality of having my own room and my own bathroom by moving to another house. I had a couple of bumps in the road, but nothing major. I've been in remission for ten years until about two months ago when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I've already had multiple scans, biopsies, and blood tests. Since the cancer is in both breasts, I have opted for a double mastectomy with reconstruction, seeing as it's the most logical route to go. I won't find out until my surgery if I need radiation or chemotherapy. Why am I writing about this publicly? Because I want to be open about my experience. The first time I had cancer, I tried to pretend like it wasn't happening. I wore wigs after I lost my hair, pretending that I was fine. I just wanted to be "normal," so I acted like nothing was happening. This time around, I want to be open. I accept that this is happening to me, and I am proud of myself and my body for being so strong and capable. I love myself and I love my body, and I will continue to love my body after I lose my natural breasts. I will still be alive, and I will still be moving forward with my goals in life. I have started my next album, and on top of that, I am currently getting ready to start a non-for profit organization for kids with cancer and depression. It will revolve around music, because music is what keeps me going. I want to give other people the gift of what helped me get through cancer when I was 11, and continues to help me now that I am 22 with cancer again. I am being open about my experience so I can help inspire people to love themselves and accept everything that is happening in their lives no matter how bad it is.
