Announcement!! I know this is super delayed and I should have posted about it sooner but I am abroad in England for the next couple of weeks <3 I will be back home soon enough and will hopefully be on this blog again. Life Update!!

        The young girl strolled into the library with a purpose. She went straight to the technology and science section, looking for a copy of “Overall Equipment Effectiveness.” Finding what she needed, she sighed in relief. She completely forgot about her assignment that was due tomorrow. She sat at one of the large tables and set to work. There won’t be as many distractions here, she thought. If she were in the Development Studio, she’d never get this essay done. ( And she doubts her teacher will let her hand in something late again. ) 

        But of course, nothing ever goes according to plan. She spotted another student sitting across from her, but couldn’t quite tell what he was reading. She leaned over the table, looking at the text closely.

        She looked up at him curiously, “What are you working on?” she asked in a loud whisper. This essay may take longer than she originally thought.

headcanon:

        Mei has no interest in becoming a hero. Sure, she wants to be well known and make a name for herself. But she is much more content sitting on the sidelines, helping heroes succeed and fight crime swiftly. She’ll wear her inventions when needed for promotion, but once other people help her on that end it becomes a lot easier for her to create herself. She’s no longer just some girl making things for fun. She’s creating support for her colleagues and genuinely doing her dream job.

        Mei brewed herself a rather strong coffee that morning. Another night gone by without a wink - nothing she couldn’t handle. Except she hadn’t slept much at all the entire weekend. She was up nearly every night, drafting new ideas for inventions. ( The best ideas always come at the wee hours! ) 

        Instead of letting her thoughts swirl around in her head, she started her projects at night and crashed whenever her body couldn’t stay awake any longer. Definitely an awkward schedule to have but to accompany her while working, she listened to podcasts and late night radio shows. It was comforting. A conversation that you didn’t feel pressured to respond to. 

        Sitting at her desk, feeling herself starting to droop she heard a familiar tune. One of her favorite radio shows did a special last night and  “ - Are you humming what I think you are?!” she perked up immediately, sitting up in her seat and singing along to the catchy opening of “The Super Supports.” 

        “I didn’t know you listened!! This is amazing! What did you think of the show last night? Of nocturnal heroes? It’s all very interesting. Must be fascinating to have a quirk alter your sleep pattern and life like that. I wish they had pulled in more guests! It was so funny when Venus started going on about her all-nighter stories at UA!” she hurdled questions at her exhausted classmate, not feeling so tired anymore.

Her muscles ached with the urge to sleep, but she had dragged herself out of her room to go to school once more in this grueling week.

Melody stayed up again all night. Not for working on on a new project, but for a certain radio show she had stayed up ‘till the wee hours of the morning just listening to. They were doing a special stream and she wouldn’t dare to think of missing a second of it.

The show was hosted mainly by U.A. support and business department graduates and it was titled ‘The Super Supports’ in honour of the often overlooked background heroes. Melody would often daydream about being a guest host like her father was on one lovely interview, and oh, how she wished to be called in one day! She was a devoted listener and a big fan, and what else would an aspiring support hero listen to for advice?

That midnight stream covered topics such as nocturnal heroes, deadlines,even fighting villains all on their lonesome; as usual they’d offer tips and tricks with different tech they’d make, new designs people are fond of, the trends that people look for in support gear. It was so useful and it was sooo late.

 She slumped into her seat in class, the radio show’s catchy tune still stuck in her head. Melody found herself humming it, the sleep deprivation making her ignore her own volume.

        “Thank you very much, sir!” Mei had to remain professional. That is what she told herself in this moment. To teachers and adults she tried to stay relatively muted. But when it comes to her craft, she sometimes can’t contain herself, “Yes!!” she exclaimed, somewhat loudly, “I do it all - from blueprints to finish!! Would you like to see some of my other babies?!” she asked enthusiastically, rummaging through the pile of machinery.

“I’m impressed.” Honestly, he had a special appreciation for the support kids. Mostly because he was basically doing what they did in the real world, just for villains. Well, now for heroes since they hired him. But such dedication, such care and craft, it was near artistry. “I am not easily impressed. This work is immaculate. Do you fabricate the metal yourself?”
