okay so
imagine a piece of media with about 4 “main”characters. It is not targeted at or marketed toward primarily girls in any way. Two of the main characters are girls who are given the same amount of priority and importance as the male characters.
their relationships with the main guys are, if clarified at all, relatively unimportant, and they aren’t ever antagonistic or rivals toward each other.
they have very different personalities, but neither of them fall neatly into stereotypes. one of them is more “feminine” and enjoys things like fashion and accessories and makeup, but she is generally portrayed as competent and even highly talented and athletic in a variety of areas.
the other is “nerdy” and not really stereotypically feminine at all but she is not portrayed negatively for this either, and her intelligence and competence is acknowledged instead of being demeaned.
their difference in personality does not appear to cause conflict between them or an inability to coexist and be friends. Neither of them put down the other for their interests.
these characters also consistently show a variety of positive qualities traditionally associated with men: bravery, leadership, and assertiveness.
Are you imagining it?
Okay, this post is about scooby-doo

“Many adults are put off when youngsters pose scientific questions. Children ask why the sun is yellow, or what a dream is, or how deep you can dig a hole, or when is the world’s birthday, or why we have toes. Too many teachers and parents answer with irritation or ridicule, or quickly move on to something else. Why adults should pretend to omniscience before a five-year-old, I can’t for the life of me understand. What’s wrong with admitting that you don’t know? Children soon recognize that somehow this kind of question annoys many adults. A few more experiences like this, and another child has been lost to science. There are many better responses. If we have an idea of the answer, we could try to explain. If we don’t, we could go to the encyclopedia or the library. Or we might say to the child: “I don’t know the answer. Maybe no one knows. Maybe when you grow up, you’ll be the first to find out.”

almost precisely as I described it to someone recently
Reblogging things on here like im 15 and tenderly cutting pictures out of magazines and taping them to my bedroom walls alongside movie ticket stubs and notes passed in class and photos and paint sample cards from lowe's
