Your shoulder finds hers and you offer a lazy nudge, sneakers flush with the textured roof and a smile tugging at the edges of your mouth as you look over at her; sun gleaming a rusty glow against brown hair as it falls about tired, reddened eyes. "No, I get it. He's... pretty."

"Shut up!" your nudge is repaid, "Idiot." she shuffles, sluggishly pulling her knees to her chest. You mirror her, a breathless reminder of how it’s getting late.

Yet there you sit, you and Violet, like always...

...because even against the unknown that lingers just beyond the safety of that rooftop, home comes in the form of another person. The one constant that promised to keep each other grounded, nine year old pinky promises and red string and the same old familiarity of silence as the sun falls behind the trees.
