Araw-araw, nakikita mula alas-siyete ng umaga hanggang alas-kwatro ng hapon na nakapuwesto sa ilalim ng hagdanan ng Katipunan Wing ng UPIS 7-12 building ang security guard na si Kuya Dan.  Laging nakaalerto at nagbabantay sa likod na parte ng gusali—buong araw na nakamasid sa mga nangyayari sa eskwelahan ng mga estudyante, guro, tauhan, at custodians. Pero sa araw na ito, matutuklasan natin ang kanyang simpleng pang-araw-araw na serye sa likod ng kanyang buhay bilang sekyu ng UPIS.

Si SG Dan Lauz, o mas kilala bilang Kuya Dan, mahigit isang dekada nang nagtatrabaho bilang isang security guard sa UPIS matapos siyang i-assign ng Northcom Security and Investigation Agency rito. Ayon sa kanya, wala na siyang iba pang establisyimentong pinagtrabahuan bilang isang sekyu—nagmula na sa UPIS ang lahat ng mga karanasan niya sa pagbabantay sa gusali at  komunidad ng UPIS. 

“Andito na ako mula pa noong 2014, nakita ko na mula pagkabata at ‘yung paglaki ‘yung mga estudyante—marami na rin talaga kaming napa-graduate,” nakangiti niyang sabi. 

Tulad ng mga karakter sa mga kinagigiliwang teleserye na araw-araw nating napapanood sa telebisyon, bumibida si Kuya Dan sa tungkulin o gampanin niya bilang tagabantay at tagaprotekta ng mga taong nasa loob ng gusali—hindi nagmimintis pagdating sa kanyang nakatakdang iskedyul ng mga gawain bago at habang nagtatrabaho. 

Nagsisimula ang kanyang araw sa pag-alis sa kanilang tirahan nang alas-kwatro ng umaga patungo sa kanilang security base. Matapos ang kanyang isang oras at mahigit na biyahe, makakarating siya sa kanilang security base para sa kanilang lingguhang guard mounting kung saan isinasagawa ang inspeksyon sa kanilang uniporme at firearms, pagtatakda ng kanilang mga gawain at responsibilidad, at ang pangkalahatang pag-oorganisa nilang mga sekyu ng kanilang mga tungkulin sa kabuuan ng araw. Matapos nito, muling bumabiyahe si Kuya Dan patungo naman sa UPIS at dadating ng alas-siyete ng umaga para makapagsimula na sa kanyang duty. 

Sa loob ng kanyang tungkulin sa buong araw, umiikot ang kanyang mga gawain sa pag-iikot—partikular na sa  likod ng gusali kung saan siya kadalasang nakapwesto—pagbabantay at pagraradyo ng kanyang report mula sa kanyang base, paninigurado ng seguridad ng kanyang lugar, pagbubukas at pagsasara ng mga gate sa loob ng eskwelahan, muling pag-iikot sa gusali ng UPIS pagkatapos ng mga klase para sa pag-iinspeksyon ng mga silid-aralan, at pagsasara ng mga pinto ng mga pasilyo sa bawat palapag. 

“Sa araw-araw, kailangan namin kayong protektahan; sa inyo na rin umiikot ang trabaho ko—ang routine ko,” ani Kuya Dan 

Kadalasang nakakausap at nakakasalamuha ni Kuya Dan ang mga taong inatasan siyang protektahan at bantayan sa pang-araw-araw. Bilang isang ‘bida’ sa teleserye ng kanyang buhay, mistulang sumusuportang mga karakter ang mga guro, estudyante, tauhan, at mga kawani na bumubuo ng araw-araw niyang serye at responsibilidad bilang isang sekyu. 

Palagian siyang makikita na binabati pabalik ang mga estudyante at gurong dumadaan sa kanyang base sa araw na iyon. Kapag naman tapos na ang kanyang duty, nakakasanayan niya nang makipagkwentuhan sa mga kawani sa paaralan tungkol sa naging takbo ng kani-kanilang mga araw. Ayon sa kanya, malaking bahagi na ng kanyang buhay ang mga taong nakakasalamuha niya sa sampung taon niyang pagtatrabaho at pagbabantay sa loob ng gusali ng UPIS 7-12. 

Bilang parte ng iba’t ibang komunidad sa UPIS na pinoprotektahan ng mga security guard na katulad ni Kuya Dan, alam ng lahat ang kanyang kahalagahan sa pagpapanatili ng ating kaligtasan sa loob ng gusali ng UPIS 7-12. Kaparehas ito ng kanyang sariling depinisyon ng importansya ng kanyang trabaho—ngunit sa mas malalim niyang perspektibo, nakikita niya ang pagtatrabaho bilang isang security guard sa UPIS na isang paraan upang ipakita ang kanyang pagmamahal at suporta sa kanyang pamilya, lalong-lalo na ang kanyang trabaho ang pangunahing pinanggagalingan ng pantustos para sa pag-aaral ng kanyang mga anak na nag-aaral na sa hayskul at elementarya. 

Matapos ang mahabang araw ng pagtatrabaho sa UPIS, parte na ng kanilang family bonding ang panonood ng iba’t ibang mga palabas o teleserye. Partikular na sinusubaybayan ni Kuya Dan ang teleseryeng “Batang Quiapo” na pinagbibidahan ni Coco Martin bilang si “Tanggol”  at kinagigiliwan na primetime show ng mga Pilipino sa kasalukuyan. Si Armando “Mando” Mendoza, isang pulis sa nasabing teleserye na pinagbibidahan ni Allan Paule, ang paborito niyang karakter sa palabas na ito. 

Sa pag-uugnay ng karakter na ito sa trabaho at personal na buhay ni Kuya Dan, nagustuhan niya ang pagiging isang tapat at marangal na pulis ni Mando. Nais niyang ipagpatuloy ang mabuting pag-uugali at pakikitungo ni Mando sa kabuuan ng palabas—‘di lamang sa kanyang trabaho, kundi pati na rin sa teleserye ng sarili niyang buhay; maigting na pinanghahawakan ang personal na mga prinsipyo at paniniwala na nananatiling nakaangkla sa kung ano ang marangal at tama. 

Bagaman sampung taon at mahigit nang umiikot ang teleserye ng buhay ni Kuya Dan bilang isang security guard, hindi sumuray ang kanyang debosyon sa pag-usad sa kanyang buhay-trabaho sa UPIS. Mula sa teleseryeng kinagigiliwan, dala-dala ni Kuya Dan ang kabutihan at katapatan ni Mando sa tunay na buhay—sa kanyang pinagbibidahang gampanin sa UPIS bilang isang marangal na sekyu.

For reasons I cannot explain, I'm very fond of "He felt half outside of himself, a ghost possessing his own shambling corpse" from chapter 1 of The Hedgehog's Dilemma and Jamie's attempt to connect with Nate through a slightly clumsy evolution metaphor in chapter 2:

“It’s like, if you’d grown up in North Manchester with my dad, you’d just be fucking dead, right? ‘Cause he wanted people afraid of him but he don’t like ‘em showing they’re afraid, you know? Can’t stand all the mumbling and stuttering and that shit.” Nate was staring at him, eyes wide. Wicked all the way home.

One of the most surprising things about the Wicked movie is that it's better than the play. Shemayyyy. I wasn't expecting it to have references to Harry Potter, but, ayun na nga. Lels.

Honestly, though I am fan, the second part of the musical is just kinda flat. Still living for it though. Sa ngalan adulting, 'di na ako manonood sa SG. Pero tbt, ayoko talaga kasi sa SG. Also, 'yung Wicked sa Universal Studios is mehhhh. Sayang. So, sana magkaroon ng run sa Pinas though, for sure, agawan ng tickets forda bandwagoners po, opo. LELS.

Countdown begins ng Wicked 2 na may showdate na rin. I am living forda Asian director na hindi nagpakabog at puro pasavogue. Hihihihihihi.

Ah, Wicked. You still need a super deep dive pero sige lungs. Sa tamang panahon. And forda first time in forever, may mainstream na akong love ulit after Her. LOL.

Also, dahil nga rin sa "defy gravity" na very green and pink wedding in December, ayun na nga, gamitin nating jump off point ito para sa B event. Ang solid ng two sides of the story e. As a hindi madaling magkapake at kiligin, nadala tayo ng simple pero sapul na sapul storyline. :p Shemayyy. Lapit na pero let this be a reminder na it's not about the destination. It's about the journey peppered with detours, dead ends, and the roads less taken. Kimmmyyyymuuu.

PS1: Had a tiny lucid dream kanina about seeing a scalpel gliding sa left chest ko. Akala ko kung ano e. Pero baka microchip dystopian era na 'tong mga deja vu ko. Ganda ng shot e. From my perspective. O baka naman reminder na pacheck up na talaga me. Lelssss.

PS2: Need na mawala ubo ko at iba pang flu-like fucking symptoms though I think na tanggal vape ang sagot dito e. LOL. Shemayyyy.

順位はつけていないのですが、特にお気に入りだったEarth To InfinityとPuliから聴いてもらいたい。

00年代後半に愛した日本のバンドと同じ名前、LAのバンドPuliのデビューアルバムは、私のために作られたのかと錯覚するほど、ここ数年の気分にマッチしていた。カラッと軽やかで音数も少なく、アンビエント？　チルアウト？　バレアリック？　Music From Memoryから出ていたThe Zenmennとも近い印象を受けるかわいらしさ……と思いきや、効果的なパーカッションとよく鳴る低音の扱いは完全に2020年代のダウンテンポのそれでかっこいい。こういう組み合わせはありそうで無かった。メンバーは、Damon Palermo（Magic Touch、Mi Ami――そう100% Silkの！　10年前に東京でライヴを観たなあ）、DJのPhil Cho、Suzanne KraftやBaba Stiltzのライヴでサポートとしてギターを弾いているJohn Jonesの3人。これまで聴いてきた音楽と繋がっていて納得がいった。

2月には、数年探していたSource RecordsのCDをたくさん手に入れた。90年代初め〜00年代中盤にかけて存在したこのレーベルについては、Resident Advisorの記事をDeepLを使って翻訳してみたり、サブスクにあるだけ全部入れたプレイリスト（Apple / Spotify）を作ったりしたが、多くが未だ再発されておらず日本では見つけにくいのもあいまってきちんと聴くことができずにいた。ドイツから届いた盤は30枚以上、途中で関連アーティストに寄り道しつつ、夏まで他の音楽を聴く暇があまりないほど、20〜30年遅れのSourceギャル気分（？）を満喫した。7月は灼熱の東京でAndrew Peklerの白昼夢のようなライヴを観た。実験的なエレクトロニック・ミュージックで知られる彼は、SourceからSad Rocketsとしてデビューしたときも、SG名義での現在も実はギターを弾いているのだ。私がApple Musicで2024年にいちばん聴いたアルバムは、昨年リリースのSG『For Lovers Only / Rain Suite』だったらしい。ギターはここしばらく惹きつけられる楽器である。

どれもこれも素晴らしいのでベストに入れるのはかなり迷った結果、直球に気分が良くなるものを選んだつもり。Earth To Infinityは、David Moufang（Move D）とJonas Grossmann（Bton）のふたりによるユニットで、CDのみで発売されたSource最初の作品だ。KLFの影響が感じられる、WarpのAIシリーズ以前に生み出された牧歌的なアンビエント・テクノ、知っているような知らないようなサンプリングされたネタが脳内の記憶の引き出しにそっと触れてくるように飛び交い、極上の没入、催眠、陶酔、ああ、こういうのが聴きたかったんだよね……という心地よさ。ここではDeep Space Network、I.F.と彼らの変名の作品を紹介してきて、当時の若者が作っていた音楽でもずっと大人っぽく聞こえる。ぼんやりとして風変わりなのがSourceの特色で、これから時間が経って聴くとまた別の聞こえ方がしてきそうだ。

そうやってSourceを経たのと、夏から高岡駅前のバーmonosでDJをするようになったのとで、音楽の好みが数年前から拡張しつつちょっと変わってきたかも、というのが他のアルバムの並びに反映されている。もともとビート主体ではなく全体像で音楽を聴いていることが多く、繋ぎは何年経ってもあまり自信がない（それってDJとしてどうなんとかは置いといて）。リスニングの延長として、テイストの近接、ジャンルを超えてみる、余白を楽しむなどあれこれ並べながら、即興でその空間と酒量に合わせることでレコードの良さが引き立つといいな〜というスタイルでターンテーブルとミキサーに向き合っています。

Stargate/Leverage Crossover Ideas

I’m surprised I never see more fics/ficlets/prompts/just plain posts about these two universes. They’re canonically connected! (There are Stargate symbols on the wall in Lattimer’s vault in “The Last Dam Job”, the producers confirm it too). It’s actually the main reason I started watching Leverage and my need for a crossover has only grown since. Here’s a few thoughts I’ve had:

I 100% believe that Eliot was a member of an SG team. When Aimee said “it’s like you dropped off the face of the earth”, well, he did. They only take the best of the best and that’s Eliot. He’s fully aware of the existence of the Stargate program and aliens, etc.

While serving there he got involved with Maybourne’s team, he thought it was in the best interest of his country. He was one of the very few who didn’t get caught. I like to think he still has a few souvenirs from his time off-world, several highly classified things he really shouldn’t have. I don’t believe he left the base empty-handed. It’d make sense if he had a Goa’uld healing device, but that would mean at some point he ended up with naquadah in his blood, which given all the crazy things that have happened to him in his life wouldn’t be too surprising, but that’s a whole different story...

Eliot never mentions any of this to the rest of the team, not only would this put them in danger but earth being at war with ancient, parasitical aliens is pretty heavy knowledge. This is a lot of fun when SG-1 shows up...

In a crossover with SG-1 and the OG Leverage for me it would have to consist of Cameron Mitchell (the timeline puts it after O’Neill was promoted), Samantha Carter, Daniel Jackson, and Teal’c. I can’t figure out a scenario where Vala is included and doesn’t let it slip to the Leverage crew that aliens and spae travel are a thing.

There are two scenarios in which I can think of where these two would meet: First, the Leverage crew uncover something in a job that Eliot recognizes as alien (either an artifact, or maybe even a Goa’uld, that’d be fascinating if he did have naquadah and was able to spot the Goa’uld), he tries to deal with it without letting the team know but finally has to tell Nate they need to call the Air Force, it takes a lot of convincing especially since he can’t actually say why. Second, SG-1 shows up to a job the Leverage crew is already doing. Eliot recognizes them, they recognize him. Sam might even pull her gun. He gets them away from the Leverage crew to see what’s going on, meanwhile Hardison is running their faces through one of his ID programs and now everyone is wondering why Eliot is talking to “two USAF colonels, some loser who should be on Ancient Aliens, and some guy who... doesn’t exist?”. 

Whatever the case, it’s inevitable that these two have to work together. Only thing is, the Leverage crew can’t know SG-1 is here because aliens and SG-1 can't know that the Leverage crew is here because crime. The only one who can and does know everything is Eliot, who is the constant go-between for both of these teams, and also very tired. He definitely knows the Goa’uld language and uses it to talk to Daniel and Teal’c about the more... classified details of the job when the others are around. Yet again Hardison is confused when he tries to figure out what they’re speaking only to find out that it doesn’t exist.

Parker is strangely good at guessing things. She immediately 100% believes that Teal’c is an alien. Nate, Sophie, and Hardison assure her he can’t be, even though they’re not completely sure themselves, this whole thing is too weird. 

I can’t really figure out the rest of it, which is why I’m writing it this way instead of in an actual fic, but this is... something. Not sure what. This is really the most realistic version I’ve thought up. Headcannon where the Leverage crew actually do find out include (this is not any specific sequence or headcannon, just ideas):

The crew ends up on a small ship (maybe Eliot used rings to get them out of a dangerous situation or something) and Hardison and Sophie are visibly and audibly freaking out. Nate is trying to remain calm and failing, it’s not as intense as Hardison and Sophie, but he’s definitely freaked out. Eliot, of course, just rolls his eyes and yells at them to calm down as he goes to figure out the controls. Space ain’t nothing when you’ve been there hundreds of times. Then there’s Parker... Her reaction is basically to look out a window, smile, and call it “Cool!”. Everyone is a little taken aback by how she can just be okay with this?

Upon finding out about aliens and space travel Hardison is excited, terrified, and absolutely furious at Eliot for never telling him about it. There’s a headcannon I have of those two somehow getting transported to another planet and not knowing it at first and trying to figure out where they are. It takes Eliot a while to convince Hardison that they’re on another planet, because “yeah, it looks like Canada, that’s just what alien planets look like!”.

All of it just causes Nate to drink more, unfortunately. It’s a lot to take in. But if Eliot had to tell just one member of the team about it (both to stop them from asking him to explain what’s going on and why can’t he tell them? and to convince them of the amount of danger they’re all in) it’d be Nate. He’d come away from that conversation very visibly shaken and tell the crew that Eliot’s right, they don’t need to know, at which point they accept it and back off.

Parker handles any strange situation well, so aliens are no big deal. I bet at one point someone (not Eliot) brings up Atlantis and she theorizes that “it’s probably actually a spaceship that flew off to another galaxy!”. Nate, Sophie, and Hardison just rolls their eyes or shoot her a weird look or something because what a stretch! But Eliot nearly chokes on his drink! He has to regain his cool really quickly because now everyone is looking at him, but how can she possibly know that?? He wonders if she ever stole classified material, but nope, Parker just made the most random guess possible and nailed it because Parker.

OH! And one more thing! One night in Nate’s apartment when they’re all getting ready for dinner Hardison has it on this weird cheesy scifi show and  is all like “look at this garbage!”, Eliot takes a look and is like “wait, what??” and sits down and starts watching. Dinner is now going to be late because this is hilarious! It gets canceled after one episode but he makes sure to catch the TV movie as soon as it airs. This is how Eliot Spencer became a “Wormhole X-Treme” fan and no one has a clue why.

If anyone else has a Stargate/Leverage headcannon, please, please, please share it!! Charater interactions, different senarios, ANYTHING! And let’s all hope that, even though Stargate hasn’t been around for a while, Leverage Redemption will throw us fathful fans a bone with some kind of reference!

      “do you think that looks okay?” he’s got his brows furrowed as he stares at the hand-decorated stockings that he’s stuck to the wall. for some reason, his looks like it’s hanging lower than nate’s, but every time he goes to fix it, he seems to make it worse. he feels a little bit bad pulling his boyfriend away from what he’s doing to help decorate his their apartment — especially over something so simple — but if he has to move a stocking one more time, he might end up tossing them out of the window in frustration.
