Ever since I first saw Butter John Stamos at Riot Fest, 2013, I've been waiting for him to make an appearance at Riot Fest. It's now 2025 and it is finally happening. Along with his list of demands (as noted above) he will be appearing with The Beach Boys. So in honor of this moment occasion, I'm kicking off the weekend with The Beach Boys.

Yo La Tengo is a band I really enjoy. I’ve been listening to their music for several years, and in my mono-linguistic ignorance, I always assumed the band name is Spanish. I finally looked up their history, and yes, it is a Spanish phrase that means I have it, or I got it. As a baseball fan, what I didn’t expect was an awesome story behind the clever band name.
Ira Kaplan and Georgia Hubley formed the band as a couple in 1984. They chose the name Yo La Tengo, Spanish for "I have it". The name came from a baseball anecdote from the 1962 season, when New York Mets center fielder Richie Ashburn and shortstop Elio Chacón collided in the outfield. When Ashburn went for a catch, he would yell, "I got it! I got it!" only to run into Chacón, a Venezuelan who spoke only Spanish. Ashburn learned to yell, "Yo la tengo! Yo la tengo!" instead. In a later game, Ashburn happily saw Chacón backing off. He relaxed, positioned himself to catch the ball, and was run over by left fielder Frank Thomas, who understood no Spanish and had missed a team meeting that proposed using the words "Yo la tengo!" as a way to avoid outfield collisions. After getting up, Thomas asked Ashburn, "What the hell is a yellow tango?"
With that great story, I’m kicking off the weekend with Yo La Tengo covering The Beach Boys song, Little Honda.

Dead and Company are playing three shows at Golden Gate Park this weekend, celebrating 60 years of Grateful Dead Music. It would also be the 83rd birthday of Jerry Garcia. So in honor of Jerry and the Dead, I'm kicking off the weekend with Bertha, the opening track of my favorite Grateful Dead album.

Meeting of Waters, Amazon, Brazil: Confluence between Negro and Solimões.. This is Brazil’s Amazon, and the unique Meeting of the Waters, where the Rio Negro and Solimoes Rivers meet but don’t mix for miles until turn onto the mighty Amazon River... The Meeting of Waters is the confluence between the dark (blackwater) Rio Negro and the pale sandy-colored (whitewater) Amazon River, referred to as the Solimões River in Brazil upriver of this confluence. For 6 km the waters of the two rivers run side by side without mixing. This phenomenon is one of the main tourist attractions of Manaus. The river then flows another 60 km before mixing fully, but the phenomenon persists incompletely for another 30 km. Wikipedia
