This is fascinating.

Zack Bowen and Addie Hall captured media attention after braving Hurricane Katrina. They were both well known bartenders, and Bowen was a decorated Iraqi war veteran. Fueled by cocaine and alcohol, their relationship was chaotic, and Addie was abusive. In October of 2006 Zack committed suicide by jumping off a hotel roof. Police were horrified to find a note in his pocket detailing the grisly murder of his girlfriend eleven days prior, with instructions for locating her body: “If you send a patrol car to 826 N. Rampart, you will find the dismembered corpse of my girlfriend Addie in the oven, on the stove, and in the fridge”.  What followed left the community in shock.

In their apartment, police came upon a gruesome scene: Addie’s head was in a pot on the stove, her hands and feet in another pot, and her well-seasoned limbs were in the oven. Most of her body was cooked, although there was no evidence of cannibalism at the time of his autopsy. He had intercourse with her corpse several times and drunkenly slept next to her before dismembering her. 

So what made Zack commit such a heinous crime? On one hand, he was deeply troubled, depressed and drank heavily, sometimes while ruminating on his time in Iraq; he reportedly was haunted by an incident with a child there. In his note, he explained how he burned himself with cigarettes 28 times to “pay for his failures”, one for each year of his life. More ominously, some believe he was possessed by a demon, especially since they lived above a Voodoo temple, in a city famous for it’s Voodoo culture; ghostly presences surrounding the apartment were reported. Whichever theory you believe, this murder-suicide still haunts New Orleans to this day. Here is a trailer for a 2014 documentary about Zack & Addie.

So why are so many people fascinated by Jeffrey Dahmer?

Interesting. This girl has my kind of curiosity.

I have a question regarding jeff (sorry if this isnt the anonymous ask you were hoping for) but was he considered a pedophile or was it ever brought up then because of his younger victims at the time they were killed? Mostly for 14 year old James and Konerak.

While many people who demonize Jeff and know only surface level things about him are quick to label Jeff as a pedophile, I think this is inaccurate.

Technically, somebody who is attracted to individuals of pubescent age, that is 11-15, including the 13 year old Jeff molested and the two 14 year olds he killed, is called a hebephile. This is someone who is attracted to those in early puberty and is different from pedophilia.

HOWEVER, I don’t think this is extremely significant as there are a lot of other factors here. Jeff had a paraphilia for male chests and biceps and he liked tone, fit men, and I personally believe that this preference would be more important than age. The average age of his victims was roughly 23, and there were 15 other victims that ranged in age from 19-33, in other words, were of age. Of course he also slept with supposedly 200+ other men that we don’t know the ages of, but based on what we do know I feel like an age preference isn’t as significant as the actual physique he was interested in. Perhaps he saw those 14 year olds as sexually mature and admired their physique but wasn’t necessarily like “I am attracted to this boy because he is underage”. This also ties into account that Jeff viewed their bodies as objects for pleasure and possession rather than actual people.

Labeling Jeff as a pedophile is not only technically inaccurate but also takes away from the bigger picture of what was going on with him IMO.
