Colin Farrell Interview Closer Magazine
Colin:
"I am a real Irishman. I feed on all kinds of melancholy.
The other day I was looking at pictures of my 12-year-old son when he was just starting to walk and I collapsed. For me. it's hard to watch your children growing up, to realize that they are losing a certain innocence, a kind of carelessness. It's not easy to see them turning the page on childhood.
I'm a survivor. The desire to fight, to live for the people you love, all of this gives you the strength to overcome your demons. It is a permanent fight, more against oneself than against others. From now on, I am happy to see my children growing up and also happy to do a job that gives me so much pleasure.
I hope that human nature will not lose its critical spirit and that freedom of thought will continue to survive. It is really time to let people express themselves and, above all, to simply learn to listen. "

'The Banshees of Inisherin'
New pics and new interview of Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson and Martin McDonagh
They share an easy comfort and familiarity that only comes with friends of over a decade; even the normally reserved Gleeson descends into schoolboy-ish giggles in this company. They are obviously mates. But they're also painfully vulnerable and honest with each other, like soldiers back from conflict, still raw from their fictional break-up. Over an hour, souls are bared, laughs are shared, scars-both mental and physical-are revealed. Just like a Martin McDonagh joint, then.
Colin: Oh God, I'd love to do another with the two boys.
Martin: We'll have to do it again.
Colin: In 14 years?
Martin: Maybe a little less. We'll do seven.
Colin: Oh, that would be amazing. Maybe start thinking about it now, will ya? A 'Weekend At Bernie's-type thing'. 'Weekend At Brendan's'?
Martin: That's a good idea, actually.

Colin Farrell on working with Jenny the donkey on 'The Banshees of Inisherin':
"Ah, Jenny was tricky. It was her first film, but she acted like it was her 100th. She was kind of over it. Kind of jaded. She didn't like her nose being touched, I found out. She kicked me in the knee. But that was my fault. I got too close to her.
And [Gleeson's] dog! I fucking got bitten by your fucking dog! I still have the scar. The donkey kicked me, the dog bit me…"
On working with Martin McDonagh and Brendan Gleeson, Colin:
"You're asking questions of yourself: how we hurt and why we hurt and why we do the things we do to each other and why we do the things we do to ourselves. You're looking closely at these things so that you can represent them in a far and decent way.
More than anything, we're all viewing each other's discomforts and vulnerabilities and hopes and ambitions – and we're doing it without bias.
That's what it is to work with these fellas. The sense of trust that you feel. It makes every day a joy. Even when it's sad."

Colin Farrell is honored at Elizabeth Taylor Ball to End AIDS.
September 15, 2022
Colin: “It was very clear that her life’s work was not what we’ve all, through the years, fallen in love with as we’ve witnessed her bare her soul, her mind and her heart on celluloid. Her life’s work that gave her journey real meaning, lasting meaning, significant and profound meaning, is the work she did at the forefront when the AIDS epidemic came like a thief in the night and stole so many lives.
Elizabeth knew this, and being at her very core, not someone who was just into proselytizing, but was actually, a deeply human person.
Who, at a time when nobody would go near, would enter the same room as somebody with AIDS, Elizabeth said, ‘Fuck that. You’re missing the whole point. This is not only a chance to help each other, but it’s a chance to show what we are. A global community that cares about how well the person to your left and the person to your right are doing.’”
To close out his speech, Colin shared a brief story about a time when Taylor got upset with him.
“I came back from wherever the hell I was, to Los Angeles, and something was going on. Life was pissing me off, as it can, and it was getting on top of me a little bit, and I didn’t call Elizabeth. I waited about five or six weeks,” he shared. Then when he finally put out a few fires and felt a little better, he rang her up. “She went, ‘Why didn’t you call?’ And I said, ‘Because, stuff is going on. My head was wrecked. I was in a bad mood.’ And she said, ‘Well, that’s not the kind of friendship I’m interested in, if you’re only ever going to bring me your sunny days.’ I swear to God, I was like, oh shit. Good fucking goings. Now, I have to reevaluate friendship.
That’s the kind of friend she was on a personal level, and that’s what she did in the face of HIV and AIDS starting four decades ago now. I’m very honored to be here. Thanks again. I hope you have a great evening, and it’s important to keep Elizabeth’s energy and spirit alive, because there’s still a lot of work left to do.”
