My car is in need of major repairs that will cost over $1000. There are more details on the campaign itself, but long story short, I was let go from my job in January and have been struggling to find a better one. I have a degree, experience, and a network, but can barely get my foot in the door anywhere. I have a part time job as a janitor but it pays poorly and I am struggling to get by. It’s better than nothing, so I still need it to keep myself going as I am searching for a better job. I would also like to start looking further out for work, and I can’t do that with my car basically needing to stay local in its current shape. It took me over a year to escape living with my abusive family, and I’m constantly afraid that my only option if things get worse would be having to live with them again and I think that would break me. I know I am constantly asking for help on here. I am really sorry to keep doing that. I’m hoping that getting my car in good shape will help me eventually find something better.
If you can’t donate on Chuffed, I’m moominhands on cshapp/vnmo and PayPal is here. Thank you

Befriending an artist who you deeply admire probably never ceases entirely to feel totally bewildering and surreal.

buffy the vampire slayer if it was set in 2025
Giles: For the last time, Buffy, you know very well what I mean when I ask if you've slayed. And you have not nor will you ever serve to me that word again

I know I say that I'm kinda nuts for doing the amount of visual research I do, but at the same time: Specificity is SO much more compelling and real feeling, and imo not getting references often makes things look more amateur.
Eg. drawing a sofa- my mental image of a sofa is something like this:
Like. Its a sofa. It works. But it's not very convincing, the pillows are kinda wrong at the back, and it's not really giving any information about the owner. Even if you want a basic sofa... What kind of basic.
comfy and cheap?
kinda rigid?
inherited? ------
who does this comfy cheap ikea sofa belong to anyway?
guy living alone?
teenage girl?
Grandma?
Anyway I'll get off my soapbox but specificity is sexy and fun and it can do your storytelling for you!

(through gritted teeth) I'm doing this expression drawing meme because I'm not used to drawing this character yet and I want to get better at drawing them. Because I'm not used to drawing them yet they are going to look awkward and weird. That is the entire point behind why I'm doing this. I get through this by drawing them more often which is why I'm drawing them more often even if they look awkward and weird to start with
The 12-year-old inside me: This looks awkward and weird chat should I thrill myself?

#it would've 100% been sailor moon and probably would have been wlw because I didn't care for usamamo#actually to be fair I feel like my first fic memories are of finding sites like sailorjupiter.com which had super retro page-by-page fics#with midi files playing on each page. and edited game sprites to illustrate OCs and such#and I guess they were het because they either featured canon ships or paired the spares with fodder in the ways you would expect#but I don't really count that because I wasn't seeking it out as fanfiction I was just like Woah this site rules. Is this true#the first time I understood the concept of fanfiction and sought it out was almost certainly to find sailor moon shipping fics#because I distinctly remember being shocked and confused that the most popular ships were makoami and reinako#since I felt like reiami and makomina were more obvious#(mako and mina always have to share their damn episodes like hand-me-downs. and reiami were left over ig)#i do remember thinking 'oh okay so sailor moon and tuxedo mask get married in the future#so obviously the other sailor scouts get married to each other? of course?' go you woke little possessed doll

i don’t get horror movies, why doesn’t the protagonist just act in a way which will prevent a story from being told or piece of entertaining media made
#god. used to know this girl who was peak like. 'heh I would NOT do that I would KICK their ass. Couldn't be me'#about everything#like girl. you don't even know how to toast your own bread. sit down#people who don't understand characters making human mistakes or irrational emotionally-driven choices are so cringe#because it means you don't recognise that YOU do those things!! which means you're more vulnerable to them than ever!!!!#'nuh-uh the killer wouldn't get me I'd hide behind that pillar and karate chop the gun out of their hands and throw the chair to-'#you would hide your zombie bite Kyle

like yeah people have always tried to be class clowns on people's posts but usually to get any visibility they have to reblog the post and then at least they're reblogging it. the post is circulating and the "number go up" factor is still technically in the OP's favour. someone might see it and think "that add-on was useless and unfunny but the original post is good" and reblog from the source. if clowns can get their "number go up" hit in the replies it's literally useless to the OP and it was one of the aspects I actually liked about Tumblr compared to other socmed platforms, where you cannot present anything without it getting immediately derailed by the kind of people who edit their comments to say "omg thank you for 100 likes!!!!"
noticing tumblr added the ability to like replies to your posts so that I can acknowledge when people say nice things so it doesn't look like I'm ignoring them :)
realising it's not a "the OP liked your comment!" button but it is in fact an anonymous and accumulative like button so anyone can like any reply to a post just like tiktok or twitter or youtube thus encouraging a similar ecosystem where users compete to get the most likes on their replies which is always to the detriment of the original poster :(
#like if you look at tiktok comments it's a fucking wasteland of the same unfunny negs recycled over and over#even when they don't make any sense#because people are racing as fast as they can to the comments to try and be first to Say The Thing so they get likes#and it's always at the expense of the OP and at best it derails completely from what they were trying to talk about#and it's like fine. that's tiktok. I guess you can say you signed up for it#but that's antithetical to this stupid fucking 'shit nobody cares about' website

I've always had a bit of a food hoarding problem, both because of a touch of diet-related food insecurity growing up and because of being poor now & having "ooh let's try that!" disease where I see a cool ingredient I know I'll never see it again and I buy it "just to try it!" and then never do. So it sits in my pantry or freezer forever
And each time I deep clean my kitchen I go through and I chuck anything that looks bad, and I try to organise stuff so that I notice it and I make soft plans to use things in different dishes, and I'll go through a few products but barely make a dent. And it feels like it fills back up immediately
BUT! Lately I've been taking a more gradual approach and it's been kind of sticking? From a budget, waste, and dietary perspective I have been making an effort to buy less random crap, including ingredients, which means I can whittle away at what's already there. And I'm cooking for myself more, because I want to see how many days of the month I can get by on eating dinners I've made myself, for saving money & to gamify my habits lol. Which means I've actually acted on some of those plans to use those ingredients.
Just a lil life update I guess, we did an extreme No-Buy July last month which included not buying any new groceries (we made sure we stocked up on staples at the end of August) which is always a good way to use up old stuff, and I'm trying to keep the momentum going. We currently have a massive jar of grilled marinated capsicums/bell peppers (like bigger than your head) I'm trying to get through so if you have any recipes I'm all ears. And capsicums
#i am trying to get my fridge/pantry down to the essentials this year#so that when I buy special ingredients I know to use them quickly#and make plans and act on them#honestly if it was physically feasible for us to only do one big shop every 1-2 months and then stick to it I probably would#I like how as the weeks go on it makes you get creative and inspires you to make the most of what you've already got#but we don't have reliable enough transport to get that many groceries at one time every time haha#also it means you can't take advantage of sales most effectively and we're too poor for that#so we're trying to find a balance where we can stock up on things when they're on special if we know we use them often#but without too many impulse purchases#basically budgeting. it's budgeting. which I used to be really on top of and am trying to get back in charge of#this is nothing new this is Normal Adult Stuff but everyone has their vice#I'm not a shopaholic I don't fall for sales or impulse purchases. Unless it's groceries at the supermarket. So silly#also I was starting to get better but then when supply chains were interrupted by covid it became harder & harder to tell myself#'you can always buy more!' because well apparently my worst fears were coming true. Products I relied on were disappearing. some permanentl#but since then (and possibly because of it) I've drifted away from relying on specific products anyway so. well#thank you all for being my little therapist sounding board#like i straight up forgot that i can and should make airy fairy personal posts here. it's what it's for. it's a personal blog

Oppositional sexism is a very useful term actually. Like, so much is better explained by the idea of “there’s a societal belief that men and women should remain opposites and should have no overlapping traits” than “this is homophobia/transphobia”. Why does society hate displays of femininity in men and masculinity in women? It’s oppositional sexism. They hate that you’re proof that masculinity and femininity aren’t inherently opposites. Thank you julia serano for another banger
