i personally think kuroo has this mindset where if he doesn't give you something materialistic and shower you in kisses, he'll lose you (god forbid, he can't have that! you're the light of his life).

it's a display of compassion and concern since it shows that kuroo was thinking about you while you were away and wanted to find a way to make you smile, he's such a gentleman.

and him showering you in physical affection doesn't strictly mean sex, no no no. his desiring of physical touch is usually more about feeling seen and safe rather than sensually, he just wants to know you're really there </3.

but when he does require sensual physical affection, that's a whole other conversation ..

“but i haven’t even told you the best one yet!”

you rolled your eyes at kuroo, your patience slowly wearing thin. you were beyond irritated. you both had been at the library studying for midterms since 4pm, the time now being close to 1am. the lack of sleep and the significant increase in caffeine was finally getting to you, and kuroo thought it would be best to give you “interesting” facts about science.

“tetsuro, i love you, i really do, but please don’t tell me another science fact,” you said, leaning forward against the desk to grasp his hands in yours. “if you tell me another one i might just combust.”

the rooster head let out a chuckle, “i’d pay good money to see that.”

“you’re impossible,” you said, biting your lip to hide your growing smile.

it was silent for a few moments there, but you could feel him looming, waiting for you to give him the okay. but you were strong, and you only needed a few more minutes of studying before calling it a day. you weren’t going to give in.

until you felt yourself sighing, glaring at your lover who was staring right back at you with a slight pout.

“oh my god, fine. but this is the last one,” you squinted, pointing your finger at him menacingly.

“i promise this one is really good,” he reached forward to grab your finger, then moving to grasp your hand and pulling the back of it to his lips, pressing a sweet kiss right in the middle. your heart fluttered at the gesture, tired eyes staring into one another lovingly.

kuroo suddenly stood up, letting go of your hand briefly to walk to your side of the desk the both of you were sitting at. you scrunched your eyebrows together in confusion, about to question what he was doing before you felt strong arms wrap around your waist, pulling you into his surprisingly warm chest.

you hesitantly hugged him back, leaning your head on his shoulder. “uh, tetsu? not that i mind but why are you hugging me?”

“i’m showing you the effects of oxytocin, otherwise known as, the cuddle hormone.”

“oh.”

your chest felt like it was going to burst. you started to hug him back just as tight as he was, feeling all the stress that was practically chained to your back and shoulders finally break for a moment, warmth and lightness filling your whole body.

you wish it lasted a while longer, your boyfriend pulling away with that cute, dorky smile you grew to love. “oxytocin is the hormone that releases when you hug someone. it’s also really good at decreasing stress, which i could practically feel radiating off of you.”

you stuck your tongue out at him, him shaking his head in response. he pressed a sweet kiss to your forehead, turning to the desk and beginning to put yours and his belongings away.

“let’s go home baby, that’s enough studying for today,” he said softly, handing you your now packed bag.

you had no complaints, standing up out of the chair and walking hand in hand towards the exit. he bumped your hips with his teasingly, smirking down at you when you shot him a playful glare.

“i’ll be honest, that last one was pretty good,” you said.

“oh? does that mean you really do enjoy my science facts?”

“let’s not get too hasty, i never said that.”

“ah, you kinda did.”

“did not.”

“did too.”

“…did not.”

“…….did too.”

“i’m gonna punch you.”

“You don’t have to say it,”

You want to say it; it’s burning in your rib cage, tearing at your throat, pounding against the back of your teeth to get out. You want to say it.

“If you don’t feel the same way,” he’s staring at his feet.

You do feel the same way! You know that you do, he knows that you do, but the words won’t let themselves form in sound. You feel it every day.

“I won’t be upset.”

He’s upset right now, it’s written all over his face. Fear, self pity, regret. It’s all there, clear as day in the knit of his brow, the sheen on his forehead, the gleam in his eye. You’re doing this to him, just speak! Say something.

Kuroo wasn’t one for grand gestures, the day he asked you out was just as any other - a trip to the convenience store, an insistence on paying for your things as he shoved your wallet away, a quick question to break the silence during the walk home.

“You’re my girlfriend now, right?”

There weren’t any words then, either, instead a hand slipped into another and a small nod, a smile that was too large to hide even if you’d wanted to; simply to save face and not give him the satisfaction of knowing the extent of what effect he had on you. There were no words then, but he knew enough to figure it out, and you were hoping he could figure this out, too.

You are in love with him, in the same way that he is in love with you. In the same way that he’d confessed just moments ago. A small bundle of flowers tied together with twine, shoved in your hands and a blush that burned brighter than you’d ever seen splayed across his cheeks as he told you everything you’d dreamed of hearing from him. A promise that his love wasn’t fleeting, not just a space holder, or an experience to prepare for the rest; his love was for life and he wanted to commit that life to you, to keep you close for as long as you’d let him have you.

He shoved his hands in his pockets, averting his gaze and kicking the pebbles at his feet. “Look, I’m sorry. It’s too soon to say something like that, huh? Forget I even said anything.”

You took a step forward, placing a hand on his chest, the other pulling his chin towards you to force his eyeline to yours. You smiled up at him, heat blooming across your cheeks when you noticed wetness at his lashline.

“Tetsu, I love you. I am in love with you. You don’t have to worry.”

The smile he produced was brighter than the sun, spreading across his cheeks and meeting his eyes in excitement. He grabbed your cheeks between his hands, pulling you towards him for a bruising kiss, laughing against your mouth. He peppered quick kisses across your cheeks, your nose, ending on your forehead, pulling you flush against his chest and wrapping his arms around you.

“You scared me a little bit. Guess I really do just take your breath away. Couldn’t even speak because I’m so romantic.”

You knocked your foot against his, laughter muffled by his chest, but wrapped your arms around his waist regardless.

“Yeah, whatever, Romeo. Thank you for the flowers.”

“I love you heaps. Don’t forget it.”

a/n : ok i really wanted to give this format a shot so here we go. this is so random btw, just an experimental post for this format !

a clingy sleeper. holding you while sleeping isn't a choice, it's a need. they must hold you or else they won't b able to sleep — and a major part of this is because it feels secure. cuddles, hands and legs wrapped, you both end up sleeping on one side of the bed and the other is just, empty.

kuroo as your boyfriend would give you surprise kisses. you'd be walking down the halls and kuroo sees you, he'd walk up to you skipping his way through, hands in his pockets. then stops when he gets to you to place a quick kiss on your lips. sometimes if it's secluded and he's feeling a little playful, he'll kiss you longer. after he does that, he just hops away leaving a very flustered you frozen in place. he gets so smug that he has that effect on you

plot twist when you do it to him he malfunctions because dang he didn't expect that you'd do it too because every time you see each other after the kiss, you'd glare and punch his chest, in all a good manner tho. he blushes so hard, red like a tomato and if it were a cartoon there'd be smoke coming out of his ears. you'd skip away too, and his eyes would follow you with a stupid lovesick smile on his face and a hand placed on his cheek down bad

all in all kuroo's really a menace sometimes, but his cute antics make up for it because he's so sweet and lovable

studying with kuroo. quizzing each other questions and biting back smiles when your eyes meet. 

“y/n? the question?” he grins, motioning to the flashcards in his hands.

“oh…right,” you eyes travel to the flashcards before sneaking a peek at his face. he caught your glance; your eyes meet for just a millisecond before you quickly look back down, fighting against your growing smile.

“why’re you smiling?” he laughs, a bit confused and amused all at the same time.

“i’m not smiling!” you defend. you turn to the side as he makes a ‘seriously?’ face. “you’re the one who’s laughing at me!”

kuroo’s mouth gapes open as his hands drop onto his lap. “i’m only laughing because you started smiling for no reason!”

Hi! I love your characterization of kuroo! Do you have any hcs about him lately ...? :))

Yeah! I love him very much! I consider him very mature for his age, even at around 8 when he already knew “if Kenma wanted to go out to soccer with me, even a little, I’d take him. but I don’t think he wants to.” I sometimes wonder if he grew up a little too fast, considering it’s somewhat implied he didn’t really want to move homes in the following dialogue.

In the HQ guidebook, it states he has an older sister. Yet in the manga, Kenma very clearly states there’s 4 in his home- his dad and his grandparents. This is pure speculation, but I think his parents separated, with his mother taking his older sister with her. That would explain some of the behaviours he exhibited in the flashbacks, like being hesitant to come out of his shell and looking kind of uncomfortable. We see him acting a lot more extroverted once he picks up volleyball and gains new friends, which makes me think his initial shyness was caused by an outside factor rather than something more intrinsic to his personality.

This is just my own headcanon, but I think maybe Kuroo sleeps with his pillow pressed against his head like that because he often heard arguments within the family as a kid. Maybe it’d make more sense if he grew out of it during high school, but I think it’s a possibility.

I also think Kuroo is one of the most emotionally intelligent characters in the series, along with Hoshiumi and Kita. I think he’s also the one with the most “people skills”, combined with that. I think it’s translated well into his job at the volleyball association, considering the need for high communication skills for many audiences and making connections. He’d be good at pacifying annoying higher ups and smoothing things out for the interests of his employers and whatnot.

An interesting aspect of him is how he handles things before and after the match with Nohebi. He’s shown to be the most immature when bickering with Daishou, maybe they knew each other during elementary school? But even then he does humble himself a bit, saying “Huh? We were totally gonna go for championships... But we did lose, so I’ll shut up.” And him calling out some random players talking some crap about Nohebi really hooked me, because he must be totally pissed at them for the stuff they pulled, but he’ll stick up for them and give credit where it’s due.

It seems he handles social situations by stating something positive first, in many cases. Like telling Kenma “I don’t hate your style of taking up a fight if it’s offered” before telling him he’ll be spending quite some time with Yamamoto. And saying “I don’t hate that about you” to Lev after he gets depressed after a loss and starts ranting about how he wants to be praised by the audience, before telling him the glory of ~teamwork~. Even when lecturing the randos talking crap about Nohebi, he starts by agreeing “arent their blocks so annoying”? He definitely has awareness of impressions he leaves on others. He may be good at provoking others, but he definitely knows how to pacify situations, and apologizes to Daichi after seemingly stepping on Tsukki’s landmine.

I could talk about Kuroo all day but here’s some thoughts I have about him! I can always write more about him if anyone wants me to.

Kuroo Tetsuro

✩ Kuroo is definitey a coffee date person. And because he's a dog person, he really likes taking you to dog café (unless you are scared of dogs). He especially enjoys going shopping with you. No, he won't be paying for your things but he'll give you company. There's something about watching you be indecisive and ask him which one is better, calculating your own budget, after shopping lunch, he likes those a lot. Because he's a good student, I can see him taking you to the library or asking you to go to his house to study together.

✩ Kuroo is a cuddle-bug and you can't change my mind. Look, he acts cool and all that with his teammates but when you two are alone, his hands will be everywhere, not in a sexual way. At the very least, his hands and fingers will be intertwined with yours. But he clings to you a lot and throws a tantrum if you don't let him.

✩ You two get into a lot of arguments. Most of them start out of nowhere and things get pretty fired up. But it becomes a normal thing because Kuroo has the habit of talking back, always. His sassy attitude can really get on your nerves sometimes. Then again sometimes he acts like he's your mother and that can be annoying too. All these lead to little arguments but nothing serious of course.

✩ I think his love language is 'words of affirmation' because he has a way with his words. Like he can make his team fire up with his words, he can encourage you too. 'Physical affection' is also a love language of his, as I already mentioned, Kuroo is a cuddle-bug.

✩ Did you know Kuroo is actually a sincere student? Aside from practicing volleyball, he spends a great amount of time studying for finals. He often helps you with homework and tutors you even. If you are having problem understanding something, you can always ask him and he'll help you. He makes lessons easy for you to understand and remember. Not that he does it for free though...

✩ Kuroo acts haughty if you talk about other guys like he knows he's the best. He even says it would be unnatural if a beautiful flower like you didn't attract bees. But lowkey he's jealous. He doesn't show it but every time you get close to someone, he wants to cry a river. He gets jealous when you talk to his teammates even. But you won't know that. He's good at put up a front.

✩ Kuroo gave you a cute nickname and it's 'kitten'. It makes more sense if you are a Nekoma student. But since 'kitten' sounds flashy, he doesn't use it all that often. He sticks to calling you 'baby' or 'babe'. He can be creative with nicknames but he doesn't know how you'll be reacting so he keeps it only between you two.

✩ When it comes to PDA, he doesn't have any opinion on it. For someone like him, he can care less whether people are around or not. If he wanted to act cute with you, he'll do it. If PDA makes you all red and blushy, he might be extra lovey-dovey in public just to see you get embarrassed and hide yourself. He finds it cute. But if you don't like it, he'll be respectfully and keep things private.

✩ Listen, Kuroo is good at flirting. People say Kuroo will use chemistry pickup lines on you. I don't have a say on that matter but I know Kuroo is good at flirting in general, I just know. But the funny part is he gets really frustrated when you play along and flirt back. It really throws him off guard and his brain glitches.

✩ Everything aside, he's a mature guy. He's well aware of what he needs to do for himself and what he needs to do for you. He maybe childish with you, but, he knows how much you mean to him and that he must not fuck up. Unlike most high school boys, he actually sees you as an individual with dreams and aspirations than just his partner. And he will be more then glad to help you succeed in life. He loves you after all.

I wrote too much on MY Hero Academia so I'll be catching up with Haikyuu and write character headcanons for a while :)
