@bucktommypositivityweek || prompt: bobby's recipe book
rating: g
word count: 991
contains spoilers for 8x15
Six months. It had been six months since he and Tommy got back together. Six months since Tommy had watched him fall apart on that monitor. Six months since he’d carried Buck out of the lab after no one else could get him to leave. Six months since they’d lost Bobby. It took time, but the day-to-day slowly got easier. It was easy for Buck to throw himself into work, taking on extra shifts when he knew Tommy wouldn’t be home, so he didn’t have to be alone. They’d been staying together since the funeral, after Eddie decided he was going to move back to LA, and Buck couldn’t find a place that felt right. In those six months, he and Tommy had decided that they didn’t want to waste any more time. That was when Buck officially moved in…even if he pretty much had already.
For their second six-month anniversary, or as Buck had decided to call it their anniversary 2.0, they decided to stay in. Considering their track record at restaurants, they realized that maybe they should just avoid it altogether and get takeout. Pizza and beer in their pajamas with a little bit of lazy making out during a movie sounded pretty ideal anyway. Buck made the drive to pick up their dinner, which ended up being Chinese instead of pizza (because, god forbid, Buck liked pineapple on his). He carried the food inside, setting it on the counter, and opened his mouth to call for Tommy. Before he could, he heard Tommy’s bare footsteps from down the hall.
“I think we ordered enough food to feed a small army.” Buck laughed as he turned to look over his shoulder to smile at the other man. When he saw a small box in his hands, his face turned to surprise. “You didn’t have to get me anything…” Buck couldn’t contain his smile as he abandoned their dinner and walked over to Tommy, pressing a kiss to his lips.
“I know. But I wanted to.” Tommy hummed as he pulled away from the kiss, stopping to press his lips over Buck’s birthmark. “I just hope you don’t think it’s stupid.”
“It’s from you. It could be a rock or a piece of lint and I’d love it.” Buck reassured him as he took the box from Tommy. It was wrapped to perfection with a ribbon tied neatly around it. All Buck could think was how horrified Tommy would be when Christmas came around and he found out how terrible Buck was at wrapping gifts. He looked up at Tommy, who was watching him intently, waiting for him to open it, so Buck did just that. He set the pieces of wrapping paper aside as he tore through it to get to the box inside, opening it carefully once it was freed. The book inside the box wasn’t anything he’d seen before, even upon closer examination. What he did recognize, however, was the random page he’d opened it to. It was Bobby’s lasagna recipe. Buck closed the book again and reread the title, Family Dinner.
“I know you were worried about damaging the handwritten copy so…I got copies of the pages turned into a book for you.” Tommy looked nervous about how Buck would receive a gift like this, how he’d react when the pain was still so raw. Buck looked back down, flipping carefully through the printed pages as he tried to blink back a few tears. He couldn’t think of a time when he’d been given something so heartfelt.
“I love it.” Buck finally spoke, his eyes watery as he looked back at Tommy with a soft smile on his lips. He’d barely touched the recipe book that Athena had given him after the funeral. Like Tommy had said, he was afraid of damaging it and losing what felt like the last real piece of Bobby that he had. He set the book down on the table along with the box and wrapping paper before stepping closer to Tommy. Evan wrapped himself around Tommy, his arms tight around his back and his face buried in his neck. He’d always been better at expressing his emotions through actions rather than words. Tommy held Buck close, rubbing his hand in slow circles on his back as he felt Buck’s breath get shaky. He knew when Buck was about to cry, he’d learned those signs well during the past few months. This time was different though. Buck had a smile on his lips as he looked at Tommy again before pressing a very wet kiss to his lips. “And I love you. Thank you.”
“I love you too.” Tommy smiled back, pressing another kiss to Buck’s lips before they pulled themselves apart.
“I probably should have given you my gift first, it feels pretty lame in comparison.” Buck laughed gently as he started to unpack their now lukewarm food.
“I’m sure I’ll love it.” Tommy responded confidently. Buck watched as Tommy grabbed the bag he’d left on the table and pulled the teddy bear out, his face getting redder by the second.
“Me and Jee were at Build-A-Bear and I saw the little firefighter costume and—well, you get the idea.” Buck smiled nervously. “I did the whole heart thing too. Kissed it and everything.”
“I would have paid money to see that.” Tommy teased him as he set the bear down and moved to help get their dinner unpacked. “He’s pretty cute, but you’ve definitely got him beat.”
Sparky, the bear that Tommy had decided to let Buck name, was soon displayed on a bookcase in the living room. It hardly matched any of the other decor, but Tommy couldn’t find it in himself to care. It wasn’t long before Bobby’s recipe book was placed in Sparky’s lap, one little arm wrapped around it. Buck and Tommy agreed there wasn’t a safer place in the world for it to be.

@bucktommypositivityweek || prompt: buck's baking
rating: teen
word count: 554
It started one morning after Buck stepped out of the shower and saw himself in the mirror. He turned to the side, examining himself a little bit closer as Tommy followed behind him. Tommy looked at him with a raised eyebrow, wondering what on earth Buck was doing.
“Admiring the view?” Tommy asked with a slight smile on his lips, resting his chin on Buck’s shoulder. Buck turned his face to press a kiss to Tommy’s wet hair before he shook his head.
“I think I’ve lost some weight since we got back together.” Buck hummed back as if Tommy was supposed to have any idea what that meant.
“Since we started dating again? What does that have to do with anything?” Tommy questioned as he stepped away to dry himself off. Buck did the same, bending down to scrunch his hair carefully to protect his curls. The two men walked together back to Tommy’s bedroom, where Buck dropped his towel and caught another glimpse of himself in the full-length mirror. If he wasn’t sure before, he definitely was then. He’d lost the little bit of roundness that had settled at the bottom of his stomach.
“Yeah, no, I definitely shed a few pounds.” He confirmed with himself before looking back at Tommy. “When we were broken up, I was kind of trying my best to resist the urge to call you, so every time I wanted to, I baked instead.” Buck laughed gently. Whenever he said it out loud, he realized how silly it sounded. He was just glad he’d been able to channel it into something positive. “So naturally I was eating a ton of shit.”
“So you learned to bake?”
“Yeah.”
“And you haven’t made me anything yet?”
Buck laughed and looked at Tommy with a warm grin. “Whatever you want, babe, just name it.”
Buck wasn’t sure how things had gotten so far off track, but somehow baking brownies had turned into a food fight between himself and Tommy. He laughed breathlessly as Tommy reached to swipe his thumb over a little bit of batter that was still left on his face. On second thought, he knew exactly when things had been derailed. Buck offered to let Tommy lick the spoon clean after he’d put the batter in the dish, but of course, Buck being Buck meant he smeared it on Tommy’s face instead. One thing led to another, eventually ending with both of them covered in leftover batter smears and chopped up walnuts.
“You know, this isn't the type of nut that I like to have on my face.” Buck smirked as he leaned back on the counter. Tommy followed, resting his hands on Buck’s thighs as he pushed himself up to sit on the counter.
“You know what?” Tommy hummed, stepping closer between Buck’s legs. “I think you should help me clean up, and then while the brownies are cooling off, I can fix that for you.” Tommy’s voice dropped a little bit, raising an eyebrow and smiling at Buck.
“You wait for them to cool down?”
“Yes, Evan, I’m not letting you burn your mouth.”
“Okay, okay fine. But if they’re not fudgy anymore when we’re done, I’m gonna be really upset.” Buck pouted gently,
“I’m sure I’ll find a way to make it up to you.”

I really have to say, Tommy Kinard is the most expensive plot device ever. I personally wouldn’t keep bringing back a character and actor that I have to pay to be a stepping stone.

Let’s look at this from Tommy’s perspective.
He regrets the breakup. He admits to wanting to reach out, and even driving past the loft. Buck doesn’t say he missed him too, but he does invite him home. They reconnect (passionately) and Tommy must wake up feeling hopeful. He goes grocery shopping, cooks breakfast, buy champagne. Maybe they’ll celebrate, or at least have mimosas.
Buck wakes up, and the first thing he says is: “I thought you left.” Ouch. Shortly followed by: “Last night doesn’t change anything.” Rough start.
But Tommy’s been missing him, so he makes the leap. Asks Buck out again. Buck says “You want to try again?” Doesn’t say if that’s what he wants too. Instead, he says “You’re not scared any more?” So Tommy reveals an insecurity, couched in a joke, like always. He’s jealous of the family Buck has, and he’s worried about his place in it. Eddie and Buck are so close, and Buck is obviously missing him, holding onto whatever part he can. Tommy’s threatened by the “unattainable straight friend”, and yeah maybe that’s shitty, but fears aren’t always rational.
Buck calls him on it. Pushes. Tommy backtracks. Buck gets mad. Says: “I don’t have to sleep with everyone I have feelings for, and I don’t have feelings for everyone I sleep with.”
The audience has been watching Buck spiral for months. We’ve seen the baking, the obsessive phone checking, the constant name-dropping. In a few scenes, we’ll see Buck confirm to Maddie that he is not in love with Eddie, that he misses him, but doesn’t want him that way.
Tommy doesn’t see any of that.
Of course he ran.

i am feeling a little eh~ about the fact Eddie lashes out and accuses Buck of sabotaging and being selfish and insinuates Buck's thinking more about his own wants than Christopher, and then Eddie not actually apologising for any of that that when Buck acknowledges he didn't act perfectly but he can see his own mistakes and is trying to rectify them and make a clear show of contrition. like yeah they hug it out, but as with the lawsuit fight it feels like the dynamic is Buck admitting fault and making a change and Eddie forgiving him and Buck being happy to recieve that forgiveness without either of them acknowledging that Eddie, even if he had good reasons, also acted badly.
