Anyway this ^ caused me to enter a state of wikipedia rabbit holes and speculative biology...and let's not talk about going back to worldbuilding.

It has been a HOT MINUTE since last time I attempted spec bio plus worldbuilding in a literal sense- like- trying to figure out how a planet has to be to let me have the bugbirdshrimp aliens (currently only bugshrimp bc I couldn't figure out the bird part lmao)

I thought drawing human anatomy was hard... but then I decided to try drawing an alien species I created for a story - as a way to visualise it better and also tweak it where needed - and got struck by I have no clue how I'm supposed to figure out the anatomy of a bugbirdshrimp thing.

getting back into painting my dragon bois more so a lil tutorial for how i paint scales!

Too many artists are held back by outdated and bad color theory rules, or even rules that are fine but have built in limitations that you should know and I want to set everyone free.

Finally, the redesign of one of my first OCs is completed! 🎉 I'm so proud of it!

Now, I only need to complete the rest of her rework: I want to give her a new name, define better her skills/powers/etc, and ofc she will need a new background story~

I sent this at 11pm to my friends and guess what? It's 1am and I fucking did the shading!

I still have to shade the studs on a belt and retry shading the face but ggwp myself! I can't believe I did that!

Did I activate the free csp trial on my tablet bc I am lazy and didn't want to struggle drawing my OC's tattoos? Yes.

After spamming test colours to my friends, I finalised the colours for the top and chunky belt of the character! More scene than emo/goth as I was first thinking, but I'm liking the results so it's working lmao (I'll have to add her make-up but I'll do that later).

Also, I did half the lineart while precariously balancing my tablet at work so I'm very proud that it looks decent enough! Also bc I always skipped lineart lately & settled for a clean sketch...

The hand looks like shit but I was thinking to fix it by giving her gloves adsfgssa

I'll also have to struggle with figuring out her tattoos... oh, well, I'll first complete putting down the base colours and then I'll go back to that.

Bonus: some weeks (or months? I forgor) ago I made her a playlist to try figure out the new "vibe" I wanted to give her... the title is fitting 💯

Some process pics of the redesign!

I grabbed the attempt I made in 2023 to draw her how I remembered describing her in the story (maybe one day I'll dig out the old as balls char sheets agdhdh) and then browsed a bit pinterest to find some inspo for her new look... I knew I wanted sth more on the punk-ish vibe, but no definite idea. In the end I found a couple of hairstyles I liked and an outfit I could picture her wearing.

The base/ref pose is from @/mellon_soup on tiktok, I saved it ages ago and finally I got around using it! Yippee!

The OG version used both a sword and magic, plus had a small dragon-shaped tattoo that symbolised her powers (or some shit like that)... but the sword felt a bit basic so, of course, it was another thing that had to go!

Searching for inspo, I saw a cool as fuck video of a woman demonstrating some moves with a guandao/yanyuedao and I already said that it was cool? Also I rarely saw ocs with polearms or glaive-esque weapons (less common i guess?), so it was a neat way to give a pinch more of "originality" to her design.

I added a couple more piercings bc I wanted to keep give her that "edgelord" vibe shshfjfjf

Then it was time to figure out the new dragon tattoo. I found a neat design that could be a good point of inspiration, but we'll have to see if I'll be able to figure out how to properly draw it. The right arm looked too bare, so I'm debating if to add other tats or make a sort of "continuation" of the dragon tattoo... idk

Last night, I ended up redesigning an old ass OC from uhhhhhh [does some maths] around 17-18 years ago? I think it was around 1st or 2nd year in highschool...

..anyway. She definitely needed a complete makeover and redesign, since at the time her references were the "anime goth girl" images i could find on google and nothing else.

Almost hyperfeminine but also tomboyish and with an edgelord (edgelady?) name that now makes me think of ebony dementia from my immortal. I'll have to give her a new name too, ough... but that will be one of the last things to do.

Now I'm trying to butchify her a bit and give her more punk and grunge vibes.

New weapon, new magic powers (maybe), I also have to redesign her tattoo and at this point her background will have to change...

Or will this turn her into a new oc? 🤔 oh, well, she really needs a complete rework, so I guess it'll be fine.
