DIY-HOW TO PERSONALIZE A BORING OLD TOTE
DIY-HOW TO PERSONALIZE A BORING OLD TOTE
Here is a very easy DIY how to personalize a boring old tote. You will need some patience and pretty steady hand-but other then that it is super simple. So my family likes to say I’m the “crafty” one. Because of that title, they come to me for ideas when they are looking for unique gifts for friend and family. This time it was my sister B-, she wanted a gift for a close friend that was moving, so…

Welcome to our DIY living room reveal, Julie! If you read my first post about when we moved to Julie (here), you know we have a lot of work to do. Well-we have been doing a lot of work and it’s paid off.
EXCITING NEWS
As I begin this new adventure of blogging, I am really thinking of the busy moms and wives like me out there and what they would want out of a blog. I know when I am searching for new ideas, I like to find out 2 things: how much it is and where to get it.
So I have added the SHOP THIS ROOM page, where you can find everything seen in all my post. By clicking on the links. There is no sign up or fee for it. The link will take you right to the website. Let’s start the reveal…
Front of the room view (before)
Back of the room view (before)
The photo on the left is the front of the room, as you come in the entryway. The photo on the right is if you are coming from our dining room. See the matted teal rug that looks better in the photo then it did in person?
Tumblr media
Now, when you walk through the front door, to you left of the entryway, you are greeted with a nice, bright, airy living room. Or as my boys call it “the room with no TV”. That’s right boys and girls we actually have a room with no TV in it.
Tumblr media
This room is in the front of the house so it gets lots of natural light all day long. It is my favorite room in the house so far. Now what did we do? First, we
Got all new recess lighting throughout the house
Removed the carpet and added new laminate
Painted the walls
Added crown molding and beefed up the baseboards
Now to the fun part of dressing the room.
Tumblr media
When walking into the room to your left is this great ladder shelf that I accessorized with some family photos and some of my favorite things all of which will be listed here. There are some great post out there on how to style a bookshelf. (here)
Tumblr media
Peaking through the bottom of the top photo is a quick an easy DIY plant stand project I did. I bought 4 wooded stools from the LetGo app for $20, cut down the legs to different heights, painted them black and then placed them around my home. I will be posting a DIY tutorial on that project soon.
Tumblr media
Next to the shelf, in front of the windows are 2 super comfy chairs I bought from Hayneedle and 2 of the 3 nesting tables I found on Craigslist. That was a super easy DIY project that I just had to spray paint the table gold and clean the glass.
The white window treatments are from Home Goods, ahhhh Home Goods, but I will link you to similar ones here on our Shop This Room page. On the windowsill is a gardening DIY project I did with my boys, growing lemon trees from a lemon seed. We have a long way to go until they are actual trees, but for now I think they look so sweet in the windows.
Tumblr media
On the opposite side of the room, across from the windows, is the matching chaise to the gray sofa in the room that we bought at Macy’s. This set has very clean lines and the deep seating makes it very comfortable. I am forever moving the chaise and the 2 chairs by the window around in this room, but for now this is were they stay. Above the chaise the eyesore thermostat that I wish G- would move to the other side of the wall and wood and metal wall art piece I bought from Hobby Lobby that was on sale for half price.
Next to the chaise is the 3rd nesting table from the set by the window that I just accessorized with 2 big succulents and some books I bought from the dollar store that I painted the covers to make them look old.
Tumblr media
In the center of the farthest wall is the sofa that matches the chaise. In front of the sofa is my DIY painted coffee table. I bought this large, super heavy coffee table from OfferUp for $40! It used to be a very dark cherry wood until I got my hands on it. I love the way it turned out so much it turned out to be a DIY project for my dining room table, 2 end tables and the coffee table in the family room. I will soon be posting that tutorial here.
Tumblr media
On top of the coffee table, I just added an old tray that I painted white, some more dollar store books, and an antique mirror jewelry box for some bling. I just found those 2 glasses in my cabinet, which was weird because where did they come from, but I spray painted the bottoms and added the moss balls I bought from Michael’s.
Tumblr media
Above the sofa is an easy DIY large wall art project I did specifically for my husband G-. This is a photo of Dolmabahce Palace in Turkey that I had printed at my local Staples. The quality of the printout is amazing. Then I adhered it to a 3×4 canvas I bought with a coupon from Michael’s and then trimmed out the canvas with some thin wood molding I bought at Home Depot. I used instructions from both of these tutorials (here) and (here) but of course ended up doing it my own way. I already have another DIY project in mind for over the bed in our Master Bedroom that I will be doing in the future and will post step-by-step directions here. If it was up to G- our house would be Turkish decor from ceiling to floor, but instead he settles for “a nod to Turkey” that you will see in each room in the house. This DIY project is much more then a “nod” but I love the way it turned out and is definitely the focal point of the room, plus it makes him happy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Flanking the sofa are 2 side tables I absolutely love. When I first decided on the style of side table I wanted, I found these from West Elm but $250 each table was not something I wanted to pay. With just a little research I found these Harper Blvd tables on Overstock for $100 less. SOLD! All the decor on these tables and in this room can be found on our Shop This Room page.
Tumblr media
This is the view of our living room if you were coming out of the dining room. Even though I still would like to make a few tweaks to this room, like adding trim around the windows and moving the thermostat, I feel like this room is done. Time to move on to the next room.
Don’t forget to Shop This Room for any of the home decor, furniture or accessories seen in this post.
And of course don’t forget to click the “FOLLOW” button to get our blog updates via email.
Thanks for stopping by.
See you soon-

NO BAKE EASY SUMMER PARTY CAKE
NO BAKE EASY SUMMER PARTY CAKE
Are you looking for a quick an easy summertime dessert? Well, I have one for you that is always a hit at my family’s summer get togethers. We call it the party cake and it’s my grandmother’s recipe. She never really gave it a name-but now we did because we were tired of calling it the banana, pineapple, cool whip cake that grandma used to make. Before giving the ingredients and instructions, I…

HOW TO ROOT COLEUS
HOW TO ROOT COLEUS
Coleus is a staple in my flower garden every year in every house we have owned. They are super low maintenance and make a big impact. They also live throughout the summer into the late fall in my area. Coleus This year because I spent more of my time cutting down old shrubs and planting a (more…)
