the best thing about this post i made 3.5 years ago is that the person who tweeted this .. who i did not know at the time .. was the same person i went on a date with a month later and the same person who is now my boyfriend of over three years .. life is BONKERS

one of the very best of the last decade. will be missed hugely. absolutely heartbreaking watching our players go like this, knowing they want to stay but we can’t do anything to keep them… once a ram 🐏

i think these are going to be my favourite summer holidays ever

i’ve just been in the most incredible trip of my life to celebrate my partners thirtieth and we’re going to cyprus at the end of the month, and then we have to start house searching again and taking trips up nothing the see the in-laws and whilst i am SO grateful for all that i am also grateful for my alone time

because alone time now means being here. it means watching robron and being excited for spoilers and reading the most fantastic fic and creating master list and catching up with old (and new) mutuals

and it’s happy and healthy and so familiar but so much better, too

being back on tumblr is insane because i just found my side blog @theballumplace and must’ve completely blocked it from my memory because what you mean i was running weekly quiz nights with 100+ people and organising advent calendars and also working full time through a pandemic

Hi, I wrote a random scene filler. Please be gentle with me, I haven’t wrote anything in years. This really is something of nothing 🤷🏻‍♀️

“Robert!” Aaron shouts as he passes David’s shop, Robert walking down towards it. “Vic said you’d decided to stick around.”

Robert avoids eye contact with him, looking everywhere else but. He shrugs his shoulders in response, fists shoved deep in his trouser pockets.

“Well, someone said something that made me think about staying for a while longer.” 

Robert sees when Aaron bites his bottom lip, trying to contain his slight concern. “But listen” he offers a hand out, like he expects Aaron to shake it in agreement or something. “I promise ya. You, Vic, John. I’m not staying to cause trouble. I just want to get on with things, maybe even sort my head out a bit.”

Aaron nods along. He thinks he believes Robert. He wants to believe him. That he won’t meddle in everyone else’s happiness. Scheme his way around the village again. Try and do whatever he can to come between him and John. 

But he knows deep down that he wants Robert to be around people he knows. Even if they do hate him right now. He wants him to get help and become his old self again. If the old version of Robert actually still exists somewhere in there. He knows what a few months in prison can do to a man, never mind 6 years away from everyone you love. 

“But farming? Seriously? You hate farming. Never had a good word to say about it.”

“I was working up at Butlers y’know!”

“I know and even then I almost keeled over from shock.”

It gets a small laugh from them both. Breaks the tension in the air that seems ever-present anytime they interact recently.

Robert’s face drops quickly though, his lips downturned into a frown. Aaron sees it, even just for the quick second it happens, but he sees Robert mentally check out for a moment.

“I mean, I failed at everything else I’ve tried so.”

“Robert…” Aaron’s says, voice going soft.

“Failed at being a husband, a brother, a son, a business man…”

Aaron pulls his gaze away from him as he lists what he thinks are his failures in life. Aaron knows, has evidence of how none of this is true but he keeps his mouth shut.

“…a dad.” 

Aaron just about gives himself whiplash with how quick he stares at Robert in horror. He can’t believe he’d say that. Thinks that maybe it was said so quietly, he imagined it completely. He’s dazed and confused and just stares at Robert while he kicks at the ground with his shoe.

He leaves it too long to say anything. The air between them gone awkward and stale again.

“Anyway I uh…” Robert finally breaks the silence and Aaron realises this conversation has probably gone on too long as it is.

“Emm yeah, yeah I should get going really.” Aaron clears his throat, head nodding in the direction of the pub. 

“Yeah of course sorry didnt meant to hold you up

No sorry I stopped you.”

They’re mumbling apologies over the top of each other. Robert desperate not to seem needy and Aaron trying to be gentle like John asked. An atmosphere surrounding them that’s horribly unfamiliar.

As they finally part ways Aaron’s head rumbles with thoughts of their conversation. The realisation of how bad Robert’s self loathing actually is, almost giving him a headache. 

He watches his feet as walks to The Woolpack. He tells himself it means nothing at all when he glances back over his shoulder as Robert makes his way down the road. He’s just, checking.

Thing is he’d deny it to anyone who asks but he will always care about Robert. As his ex-husband, as his old best friend, as his mate’s older brother. 

Just because he’s married to someone else, doesn’t meant he stopped caring.

had the absolute best time of my life. from the boat itself, to the destinations, the nightclub that hosts themed nights, the running track on the top deck, the swings, the basketball courts, the INSANE restaurants and the food court made up of ten street food stalls, the hammock on your balcony, the sail away part with an hour of free moét, to the inclusivity and inaccurate vibes. i wouldn’t have changed a single thing out it. time! of! my! life!

its so funny that all the dingles think john makes aaron actually happy. when we can all see that aaron is a shell of himself around john. and that in one short conversation with robert, he lets his guard down and the truly happy 2018/2019 aaron bleeds through, just for a moment, until he shuts robert out again
