Finally saw a different hand surgeon, one that had operated on my husband and recommended by my primary care provider, & my PT. He checked both hands, did an ultrasound on both, & most importantly, LISTENED TO ME. He said I have carpal tunnel syndrome in both hands, which I suspected, & he's taking over my care.
He works within the same group practice as the surgeon who ghosted me post-op when I developed unexpected complications. He didn't seem surprised when I told him my story & mentioned his colleague's name. I found that telling.
I hate arrogant doctors who won't listen to their patient, who treat us like uneducated child when we are the experts of our own bodies. We're the ones who've always lived in them! We know when something is wrong within our bodies oftentimes much sooner than our doctors do. But they wear the white coat & so they think they know everything.
Had the first surgeon listened to me, examed me properly, he would have discovered his trigger finger surgery had kicked my low grade carpal tunnel syndrome into high gear & saved me at least two weeks of suffering.
American healthcare sucks.

I'll keep this short, because I really think you should be doing your own reading about current events if you're a US citizen, but please notice that a huge percentage of what Trump and Musk have been doing is, quite bluntly, unenforceable. Not all of it, alas, but quite a lot. They have neither the authority nor the ability to do what they are claiming to do. Some of it will have to go through the courts and be declared null and void, but a lot of it they just couldn't do a damn thing if people just...didn't. If you think this makes them look weak and stupid, well, yeah, it does.
Everybody needs to get used to saying, "Fuck you; make me" fast.

Our healthcare system is so broken. I feel like I'm screaming into the void, and the doctors who should be listening to me the most are unable to deal with me because I'm not having a textbook recovery. I reach out to them and just get generic answers in return.
My GP is doing his best to help, but there is only so much he can do. And America's dreadful health insurance system is severely limiting the choices of where I can get care at criminally high prices.
I just got out of medical debt that had been haunting me for years and felt so good about it. Now, one session of physical therapy for my hand is $860, and I've had three so far. They haven't helped much so far. I still have to see a nephrologist about my kidneys.
The patient advocate from my insurance is nice, but not very helpful. She's more like a cheerleader so far. The patient advocate at the practice my surgeon works out of isn't really advocating for me; she's there to protect the company. I haven't even heard back from her.
So I sit here in pain; sometimes I cry, it is so bad. Usually, I'm good at advocating for myself, but the combination of circumstances is just wearing me down. Lord, I wish our country had a more civilized and compassionate healthcare system like the majority of the world does.
And please don't come at me telling me that healthcare systems in other parts of the world are terrible because people have to wait weeks or months for an appointment. I am encountering precisely this problem right now here in America and have quite often in the past decade. It's just that we end up paying more for our medical care here, and many of us go bankrupt because of it.

So I had to push out my appointment to see a nephrologist from March 18th to April 1st just to make sure I was seeing an in-network provider because the doctor I was first scheduled with wasn't in my insurance provider list. I've spent all day trying to deal with insurance and healthcare providers & I'm so fucking frustrated I could cry. It shouldn't be this hard to get healthcare!

One of the most frightening things many of us in the U.S. have faced since Trump took office is the overwhelming uncertainty surrounding aspects of life we once took for granted—things we didn’t think about, things we assumed were normal.
The freedom to strive to be our authentic selves, despite the hatred of some. The freedom to love whom we choose and to build our families from that love.
The freedom to speak our minds, to express dissent, and to have a free press. The freedom to critique our politicians without fear of reprisal—and to ensure that others have the same opportunity.
The freedom to make our own reproductive choices, regardless of gender identity. The freedom to seek the medical care we, alongside our doctors, deem most appropriate for our mental health. The freedom to get vaccinated if we choose.
These freedoms, among others, are now in jeopardy, and that has made many of us fearful. We are also afraid of the future because we no longer know what each day will bring. The level of uncertainty we’re facing is staggering.
To me, the most frightening aspect is how the current administration is using this uncertainty against us. They understand that humans are creatures of habit and that rapid change can disorient large numbers of people at once. They also know that uncertainty is even more terrifying when framed in extreme ways.
So, what can we do? We must learn to navigate extreme uncertainty without allowing it to paralyze us into inaction. And we must do so quickly because those working to establish an authoritarian regime in the U.S. are not slowing down their chaotic efforts to reshape our country.
I’ve resumed writing to my Democratic representatives, making phone calls, speaking out on social media, and educating myself through literature. What are you doing to combat fear and uncertainty and to resist this administration in the ways available to you? I’d love to hear from you!

"He can't do that!"
"That's illegal!"
"He is violating the constitution!"
Then fucking stop him! Arrest him, throw Musk out, bar them from entering when they try to access shit.
Because guess fucking what, laws only have meaning when they are enforced. They only matter when someone fucking does something about it.

SSRI antidepressants have saved my life & kept me alive since I was 18 years old, which is when I had my first extremely serious bout with depression. My life continuing depends on them, as well as many other medications. Many of my family members & friends know this, but many do not.
Since Trump took office, I have watched his administration taking further action to erode women's rights to control their own bodies, watch him lay waste to civil rights actions in the name of getting rid of "woke" idealogy, further demonize and erase the rights my LGBTQAI+ family members & friends, cut vital funding to medical research such as cancer research & I ended up spending a weekend fearing the cancer drug trial I am in was frozen (by a stroke of luck it wasn't).
Now RFK Jr is taking aim at vital, life-saving drugs that millions of Americans, including myself, rely to help our mental health conditions. He has spoken about making people go off these drugs and sending them to "wellness farms" while taking us off our medications and forcing us to grow organic produce, for years if necessary.
Is this what you voted for, those of you who voted for Trump? I'm asking you seriously, no name calling, no hate. Is this what you want for me, for your family and you, and maybe yourself? Is this what you hoped for from Trump's second term?
Or have you come to realize you made a grave mistake voting for him? Do you regret your vote? If so, what are going to do now? Will any of you reply? Because none of you have so far.

Hundreds of people marched in Minneapolis on Friday to honor missing and murdered Indigenous relatives. Between 27 and 54 American Indian women and girls in Minnesota were missing in any given month from 2012 to 2020, according to the Minnesota Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relatives Office.
