Do’s and Don’ts After Surgery
After knee surgery, there is no doubt you will encounter challenges and pain on the path to recovery. While it will seem difficult, and maybe even impossible at times, try to remember that what happens after your surgery is just as essential to the overall success of the procedure as the surgery itself. Here are some do’s and don’ts to help you along the road to recovery:
DO take rehabilitation seriously
When you return home after surgery, it’s important to follow your doctor’s instructions carefully. This includes performing all exercise prescribed by your physical therapist – even when it’s uncomfortable. While you may experience some pain and frustration, keep in mind that some experts say 50 percent of a positive outcome is dependent on the patient’s willingness to work hard in physical therapy and rehab. So try your best to stick with it! The end result will be worth the effort. Taking medications as prescribed and getting plenty of sleep are also important to help your knee heal properly.
DO use ice and heat
According to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, swelling after knee surgery can last for three to six months after surgery. To help reduce inflammation and pain, it’s generally recommended you use an ice pack three to four times a day for about 10-20 minutes during the first few days after surgery. After the initial swelling has gone down, you can alternate between ice and heat to relax the muscles and ease stiffness. Speak to your doctor or physical therapist if ice doesn’t help with swelling, or if you think you might benefit for longer periods of ice or heat.
DO strive to be your healthiest self
Keeping your body healthy will encourage faster healing after surgery. If you smoke, make an effort to cut back or stop; smoking shrinks your blood vessels, which makes the healing process slower. Avoid drinking alcohol if you are taking a blood thinner or narcotic pain medications. Keep your weight down, as extra pounds put greater pressure on your knee and can slow your recovery. And finally, strengthen the muscles in your legs and improve overall blood flow by participating in low-impact activities such as walking, swimming or peddling a stationary bike once your doctor gives you the green light.
DON’T put unnecessary stress on your knee
Avoid lifting heavy objects, and when you turn to face a different direction, make sure you turn your entire body and avoid twisting your knee. To help you be mindful of your form when you bend down, kneel and sit, it’s a good idea to review these movements with your physical therapist so that he or she can help you learn how to do them safely.
DON’T schedule other surgical procedures while you’re recovering
Consult a physician before scheduling dental work or other surgical procedures, especially on your bladder or intestines, as these may lead to infection in your healing knee.
DON’T give up!
Remember, all individuals and surgeries are different. People progress at different rates and heal on their own time. Be patient with yourself and give yourself praise for the accomplishments you make along the way. If you are experiencing problems during recovery, be sure to call your doctor as soon as possible to ensure proper healing and prevent further health issues.

You Should Know About Joint Pain
You Should Know About Joint Pain
For people with chronic or recurrent joint pain, joint replacement surgery seems like the only option. However, getting a joint replaced is a crucial decision and we would recommend weighing in all options before you opt for it. First and foremost we recommend that you take your time analyzing the causes and the effects of the issues you’ve been facing. You should know about Joint Pain in order to treat it.
Understanding the causes
It is essential to understand the main cause of your joint pain. Joint damage can be temporary or degrade gradually over the years. It can get very painful and if the cause is not addressed in the initial phase, then you may need to undergo surgery for rectifying the same. Some common causes of joint pain include:
Arthritis
Muscle Strain
Bursitis
Injuries due to accidents
These causes are perhaps the most common reasons for people suffering from joint pain. The ideal way to go about it is by visiting an orthopaedician right since you enter your late 30s. The younger your joints are, the easier it is to prevent them from getting damaged.
Factors to consider for joint preservation at a young age
Instead of going for surgery, we strongly recommend going for joint preservation at a younger age. Although this is a lesser known procedure- it definitely is a lesser invasive one than joint replacement. Here are some risk factors that your surgeon might need to take in consideration before recommending joint preservation surgery to you. These include:
Age: The younger the patient, the better the success chances.
Weight: This is definitely a factor to consider as more weight means more pressure on your joints. Weight management is often the best step recommended for keeping your joint pain in check as well.
Muscle strength and conditioning: The support of your muscles helps your medical advisor understand the adversities that your joint can undertake. Hence, this will be a crucial factor.
Severity: Your orthopaedician would only advise a major invasive procedure if your joint calls for it. For minor cartilage tears or muscle problems affecting the joint, joint preservation or injury isn’t really advisable.
Benefits of Joint Replacement
For people, who have undergone conservative treatment measures to no avail, joint replacement may be the only option left. In case, the cartilage gets damaged or the bone becomes irreparable, then a joint replacement would prove to be quite effective.
Firstly, it will immediately alleviate all of your pain. This will also help in improving the functioning of your joint. While it comes with own share of complications and potential risks, the right preventive measures would help you get successful results.
Talk with the doctor about the best possible options and what are the ideal long term strategies to consider. Your activities and lifestyle measures would help in keeping these issues away as well. Make a calculated decision so that you do not have to regret it later.
Conclusion
There are many non-surgical options which you can consider too. Some of these options are- Platelet-rich plasma, Cellular stem cell injections, and Cartilage transplant. However, this needs to be considered depending on how severe your injury is. It is advisable to try   methods before going for a surgery that may keep you restricted for a long time.

Robotic Knee Replacement Surgery in Pune | Robotic Knee Surgery Cost
Looking for a Robotic Knee Replacement Surgery in Pune? Dr. Rahul Bade an experienced Robotic Knee Replacement Surgeon in Pune at Medistar Superspeciality clinic offers you the best surgical care.
Robotic Knee Replacement
For a knee replacement, the knee’s arthritic portion is removed and covered with metal and plastic parts which comprise the new surfaces of the joint. A robotic total knee replacement benefits from the CT scans, which allow a more accurate virtual model of the patient’s knee to be built. This model acts as a guide when the surgeon comes to embed the new knee components during the procedure.
Tumblr media
One of the leading forms of robotic knee replacement surgery is Mako assisted surgery, using the Mako robotic-arm assisted surgery system for the accurate alignment of implants.
Who is suitable for robotic knee replacement surgery?
As with any type of Robotic Knee Replacement Surgery in Pune, it is important to note that the procedure itself is not performed by a robot! The procedure will be conducted by the surgeon themselves, and the robotic technology is used to pre-plan the surgery and assist with the procedure; removing the diseased cartilage and bone, before inserting the knee replacement.
An orthopaedic surgeon determines suitability for the robotic knee replacement procedure on a patient by patient basis.
As a general rule – if you are suitable for a total or partial knee joint replacement, then you are suitable for robotic knee replacement surgery. Despite what you may have heard or read, robotic technology is not restricted to certain types of patient.

Joint Replacement Surgeon in Pune | Joint Replacement Doctor in Pune.
Best Joint Replacement Surgeon – Dr. Rahul Bade
Dr. Rahul Bade is one of the most renowned & pioneer joint replacement surgeon in Pune, India with 10 years of active orthopaedic surgeries experience.
What is the advantage of joint replacement surgery?
The worn-out cartilage and frayed bone ends are replaced with a smooth metal and plastic surface. So, movements become easier. Pain on movement and weight-bearing goes away. Muscle strength improves and there is less difficulty in carrying out day to day activities. The pain of surgery decreases in two to three weeks time. Thus, surgery improves the quality of life.
Tumblr media
Why does a joint become painful?
A joint is formed by the junction of two bones. The function of a joint is to allow movement. Tissues and muscles around the joint give support to it and help to direct its movements. A joint becomes painful when it gets diseased and degenerates. This can be caused by a number of reasons: old age, injury, infection, rheumatoid arthritis, gout, and others. The most common cause is wear and tear because of old age. A diseased joint gets swollen and red. There is pain on movement and weight-bearing with the stiffness of joints. There would be difficulty in carrying out day to day activities.
When it is necessary to replace a joint?
The ends of bones are covered with smooth, white, cartilage. This allows free and smooth movement of the joint. When a joint gets diseased, this smooth cartilage is lost. This leads to raw ends of the bones being rubbed against each other.
Rubbing of raw bone ends causes severe pain and restriction of movements. Initially, medicines and exercises help. But, joint damage will progress over time. Pain which occurs at night and disturbs sleep is an indication of serious joint damage which would need surgery. To date, there is no method of regeneration of cartilage. So, the cartilage is replaced with a new, smooth plastic and metal surface (joint replacement surgery).

Best Knee Replacement Surgeon in Pune | Knee Replacement Surgery Cost in Pune
Knee replacement, also called knee arthroplasty or total knee replacement, is a surgical procedure to resurface a knee damaged by arthritis. Metal and plastic parts are used to cap the ends of the bones that form the knee joint, along with the kneecap. This surgery may be considered for someone who has severe arthritis or a severe knee injury.
Various types of arthritis may affect the knee joint. Osteoarthritis, a degenerative joint disease that affects mostly middle-aged and older adults, may cause the breakdown of joint cartilage and adjacent bone in the knees. Rheumatoid arthritis, which causes inflammation of the synovial membrane and results in excessive synovial fluid, can lead to pain and stiffness. Traumatic arthritis, arthritis due to injury, may cause damage to the cartilage of the knee.
Tumblr media
Anatomy of the knee Joints are the areas where 2 or more bones meet. Most joints are mobile, allowing the bones to move. Basically, the knee is 2 long leg bones held together by muscles, ligaments, and tendons. Each bone end is covered with a layer of cartilage that absorbs shock and protects the knee.
There are 2 groups of muscles involved in the knee, including the quadriceps muscles (located on the front of the thighs), which straighten the legs, and the hamstring muscles (located on the back of the thighs), which bend the leg at the knee.
Tendons are tough cords of connective tissue that connect muscles to bones. Ligaments are elastic bands of tissue that connect bone to bone. Some ligaments of the knee provide stability and protection of the joints, while other ligaments limit forward and backward movement of the tibia (shin bone).
