Focus on what you're doing. Don't stress out. Always be looking to improve. A lot of new shooters step on the firing line without having shot anything before and they walk off with (other than a passing score) confidence in your abilities. That's one of the main objectives I strive for. Yes, there's the administrative prerequisites you need to meet, yes there safe gun handling involved. 3 trigger flexes and fire. With a hot gun (only works for double action) squeeze your trigger to the point just before it fires. Ease the trigger back to just before it completely rests. Do this 3 times then fire. The idea is trigger control and recoil anticipation. You'll often see shooters "jump the gun" when they flex the trigger because their body going thru a sequence the mind knows will end with a scary boom. Everyone has their own way they prepare their minds for range training. Some reflect on loss as motivation and that motivates their performance. Some ponder the possibility of loss motivation and that motivates their performance. I try to open my mind. If I'm teaching or if I'm creating (creating responsibly armed individuals) then I like to listen to other educators and other creators. Jimmi Hendrix had a great outlook on a lot to include creativity and I've always had a great deal of respect for that plus his abilities as an artist.
