Netflix is blaming the Shadow and Bone cancellation on the strike because they want us to turn on the actors, writers and other workers who legit had to force this giant, multi-national company to give them fair compensation for their work!

Do not let them do it.

It's not the actors fault

It's not the writers fault

It's not the fault of those who password share

It's not the strikes fault.

The cancellation of Shadow and Bone rest entirely on the greedy hands of Netflix upper management and I hope suffocate on their hoarded wealth like a ham-fisted hubris story.

I don't know how many of you lovely people know what's happening, but the by-and-by is that Netflix has officially canceled Shadow and Bone, and any potential spin-offs. I don't like this. No one likes this. And so, I ask, if you have a moment or are even slightly interested, maybe go sign this petition?

This show meant a lot to me and to thousands of other fans, and I want to try to do everything I can to save, so pretty please!!

For those of you who want to lock all of your works with all the silly AI scraping of AO3 (which AO3 is recommending you lock your works, as stated in this post)

Here is a quick and easy guide of how to edit ALL of your works at once.

From your Dashboard click on “edit works” on the far right. This will bring up all of your works that you can select.

Select all the works you want to edit, then hit “Edit” at the bottom right.

Scroll to nearly the bottom of the page where you find “Visibility” and select “only show to registered users” and then update at the bottom.

That’s it, all of your works have now been locked without having to go in and edit each fic individually.

Well it only took me a million years, but I finally changed the look of the blog a bit!  The plain purple geometrics are gone (and good riddance!)

If you want to know if a particular creator has a permission statement (or are just confused about where to post your own!) it’s usually part of their ao3 profile.  

Petition to make 2023 the year all fic writers put permission statements in their AO3 profiles?

Please note this is not me asking all writers to grant blanket permission for other creators to make any and all kinds of transformative works of their fics.

What I am asking is for a simple statement that will help fellow fanwork creators know your boundaries, because honestly, asking is scary! A permission statement can look like…

“I am not open to any transformative works of my fic at this time.” Great! Clear, concise, saves us the time and effort of asking, and the angst of awaiting a reply.

Or

“I am open to any transformative works, including art, podfics, translations, and written works inspired by my fics.” Yay!! This is great news. May the fandom gods bless you with many “related works” notification emails in your inbox.

Or

“I am generally okay with podfics, translations, etc, but please send me a quick message first” Totally! We get it. Maybe you’d rather some of your works stay untouched. Maybe you’d prefer that they’re archive-locked. Maybe you just want to know who you’re dealing with, or you don’t like surprises. Valid! At least we know you’re up for a convo, and will likely respond.

Or

“I am okay with_______ but not _______ of my works.” Yes! Again, clarity! It’s a beautiful thing.

ao3 is not instagram, and it’s not embarrassing to comment on a story that’s old. we understand that you just happened to come across it now; writing is magical in that you often come across the right story at just the time you need to read it.

also, authors will literally cry over their keyboard if you comment on the stuff they write.

This was such an amazing documentary, and the fact that YT said it was in violation of community standards is just garbage.

Please Watch this documentary made about the SS Eastland. YouTube says it violates community standards for things it never does!
