today i’m thinking about how the despair demons tend to single rook out and how the first time this is recognized is after the treviso/minrathous decision
like, listen. i know it’s probably just a game mechanic thing. but it’s interesting to me that every despair demon in the game does this—single rook out. and how you encounter a lot more despair demons the worse the situation gets. and every single time, without fail, rook is their primary target.
like. the potential juiciness of it all. rook who carries regrets and despair hidden behind a smile that no one can see behind until the regret prison. rook who has to keep up a brave face as the leader so that the team doesn’t collapse because someone has to make a decision.

the narrative juiciness of regret…despair…someone sedate me

Happy Birthday!!!
What did I love? Companions in combat! When the devs said they tried to make combat feel intimate, I think they really nailed it. Companions are so responsive to what's happening to Rook and the battlefield, half the time I was taking cues from companion combat barks instead of the game's HUD. I still love the slower combat in CRPGs like Pillars and BG3, but I think the faster pace worked quite well for this game.
I also think it's kind of hilarious (sincerely affectionate) that the Veilguard crew is the least dysfunctional of all the DA parties. I love the thought of the previous protagonists having a round table discussion about how to stop their friends from killing each other (again), when Rook waltzes in late because the lighthouse potluck or book club went on too long (again).
thank you!!! got so many more of these than i ever expected, still playing catchup 😂 this fandom is so lovely and generous though 🥺💖
and yes!!! same here! i was really listening to my companions during combat and would react to what they told me! especially bc it was specific enough to be helpful. "on your right!" instead of "look out!" or smth. really made it feel integrated and responsive in a way i'm not used to but was absolutely delighted by!
ajfksjkfl and right? they're like... they really do have it together. they're full on making regular meals and figuring out who's gonna do what and having recurring downtime activities and hanging out together and checking in on each other and it's all really, really nice actually! like they're all professionals, they're all accustomed to working with other people, and that shows in how they manage to work so smoothly with each other even with significant differences of perspective/outlook/background/methodology/etc. it's fascinating!!!
#datv#dragon age#asks#oh my gosh im so excited to snoop through the other asks#i love veilguard positivity sm#and im grateful for the lengthy response!! gonna reblog it in my fandom blog so i don't lose this to time hehe

i think all the best sci-fi is the sci-fi that looks dirty and lived in. like yeah we could have space travel and lasers but people are still gonna leave dirty cups by the side of their sleep pod and get weird alien mud stuck on their boots and put off fixing that faulty light on the lower deck of the spaceship. its relatable. its humanizing.
#ugh yes i love mass effect to bits as is#and i know shep and the normandy are very well funded#but imagine#mass effect with grunge#more space crew travel games with grit please

I often think about Sidestep back at the Farm, waiting day by day for Ortega to show up. Counting each setting sun and rising moon and patiently waiting. Because Ortega’s always had their back — even if they’re always just a bit late, what’s a third-act climax without a bit of suspense? Will they? Won’t they?
But it’s not one of those action films the two of them so frequently loved to poke fun at, and Sidestep is taken apart and put back together more times than they can count and Ortega still hasn’t arrived. And finally they realise that nobody is coming for them. And the worst part is that it’s entirely true.

Andor makes me want to write a Star Wars fanfiction but it's so scary. What if I write "Glup Shitto was sitting on the balcony, drinking coffee and reading his favourite book", but someone comments "didn't you mean he was drinking glop-goppy and reading a holo-journal? 🤨" so I open wookiepedia to check it out and it turns out that they also never invented balconies in the star wars universe and Glup Shitto can't read because of the freak accident he suffered in the episode 10 of the 2024 show "Jar-Jar and Babu Frik". What then.

“average person eats 3 spiders a year” factoid actualy just statistical error. average person eats 0 spiders per year. Spiders Georg, who lives in cave & eats over 10,000 each day, is an outlier adn should not have been counted
