Why the fanarts in the Fourth Wing fandom are 90% about Violet and Xaden kissing or making out?

I just finished the first book and I myself got baffled at how emotional and soul-bonding theirs relationship is and how it goes so beyond the physical part.

I mean, they have such cute and adorable, even awkward, moments that add so much to the dynamics and plot and I’ve never seen them in fanarts! Like:

- The moment they first met (the literal love at first sigh for both of them);

- When Xaden plays the nepotist and messes up two full squadrons to make sure his crush/mortal enemy is under his direct chain of command;

- The 149 times Violet senses he’s stalking at her in the War Classes

- The first mat scene (Granted, there’re a lot of fanarts about it, but theirs final gazing is so sexual tension and awkward!)

- Xaden telling Vi to cheat in the gauntlet with her agility and brains;

- Xaden playing nepotist 2.0 and turning a blind eye when his girl beats the gauntlet and sasses an Wingleader (C’mon! Proud Malewife material)

- After she kills Jack and he gets totally straightforward and sweet at her (that has to be my top 5 scene)

- The several times Xaden skips his duties to train her to fight and fly

- When he gives her coffee after she spends a whole night wake waiting for news of her sister in the battle reports

- Violet crossing the parapet barefoot and in a gown to talk to Xaden when he’s there grieving his father’s death

- Violet wearing his winter jacket!!

- The woods fight after she discovers he had been lying to her all along!!

- They talking before a suicidal battle

And the list goes on…

I think a lot of acotar discourse could be solved by collectively understanding that sjm is a terrible writer who cannot use storytelling tools successfully tbh. like the correct answer to "why did rhysand put feyre in skimpy dresses and make her dance while drugged under the mountain" isn't "because he's a sexual predator" (although that's a valid interpretation) but rather "because sjm thought it was hot and didn’t think through the implications". the same thing goes for a lot of discourse sticking points. the whole bizarre no c-sections allowed pregnancy subplot happened because sjm wanted pregnancy drama and didn't care enough to come up with something better. cassian took nesta on a miserable hike to punish her because sjm thinks keeping someone happy takes priority over telling them lifesaving medical information. and on and on. unfortunately being in this fandom is a deeply frustrating experience because the source material fucking sucks, and most of the good stuff in the fandom comes from people's reimaginings of canon, not because the books are good. personally I cope with this by making shit up in my head that I like better and I highly recommend doing that
