ex-vegan, ethical omnivore, animal lover. i do not hate vegans & i fully support anyone's decision to be vegan. however, i don't like the pseudoscience preached by so many vegans. 1. the existence of poor vegans does not mean that every poor person can and/or should be vegan. 2. the existence of vegans with disabilities does not mean that everyone with disabilities can and/or should be vegan. 3. the existence of vegans with health issues does not mean that everyone with health issues can and/or should be vegan. 4. the existence of marginalized vegans does not mean that everyone who is marginalized can and/or should be vegan. 5. the existence of vegans does not mean that everyone can and/or should be vegan.

White vegans when indigenous people agree with them: Wow, I feel such an incredible connection to Mother Earth and all of its incredible bounties. Sometimes I really feel like I have an Indian soul. What a gentle and kind people, who would never hurt a living soul. We can only aspire to be more like them 😊
White vegans when indigenous people disagree with them: You’re a disgusting monster hiding behind your culture as an excuse to murder. It’s no different from people using culture as an excuse to bury women alive or mutilate children. I’m not saying that you deserve your genocide, but the fact that you haven’t evolved from your evil, savage ways just proves that you’re just as bad as colonizers. Kill yourself and make the world a better place 😊

“kellire replied to your link “Netflix vegan hit ‘What the Health’…”
So have you found any reliable studies that point to a plant-based/vegan diet as healthy?
I guess it would depend on your definition of “healthy”?. You can’t really label certain diets like vegetarianism / veganism as healthy because it depends on the person. Someone that needs the protein provided only by meat obviously wouldn’t be healthy on a  vegetarian / vegan diet. ect.
Most of the few papers i’ve found have been more on some scientists arguing veganism /  vegetarianism being the way forward to save the environment. These papers don’t really have any experimental data but rely more on the previous research of other papers. And at the end of the day the scientists writing those papers were not experts in that specific field, and their paper didn’t sway me. Haven’t really found many (unbiased) ones that state plant-based diets are healthier than meat based diets.
There’s is a lot more papers however that state that reducing the consumption of red meats will be both healthier and more environmentally sound. Most people take this to mean “then cutting out all meat / plant only diets must be the best!” which is not what these papers are saying at all.
Anyways enough of me rambling on. Here are some research papers:
The impact of vegan diet on B-12 status in healthy omnivores: five-year prospective study - Now vegans need to take supplements for the animal products they’re not consuming. But there’s not been many studies on the long-term effects of these supplements but I did find this short-term five year study on B-12 supplements.
A vegan or vegetarian diet substantially alters the human colonic faecal microbiota
Possible effect of a vegan diet upon lung function and the cardiorespiratory response to submaximal exercise in healthy women.
Health effects of vegan diets
Maternal vegan diet causing a serious infantile neurological disorder due to vitamin B 12 deficiency
Comparison of nutritional quality of the vegan, vegetarian, semi-vegetarian, pesco-vegetarian and omnivorous diet
The low-AGE content of low-fat vegan diets could benefit diabetics–though concurrent taurine supplementation may be needed
There’s a lot more papers on the nutrition benefits and negatives of plant-based / vegan diets, just like any other diet.
I don’t agree with people stating vegan / plant-based diets are more healthy because there isn’t any overwhelming evidence that suggests that it is. Both diets have risks and benefits, and depends on the individual person.

I saw a post with you talking about plants being sentient. I want to keep an open mind, so I was wondering why you think so. Thanks
sentient is defined as being able to perceive or “to feel.” New scientific research shows that plants may be sentient and, based on the scientific evidence and my own knowledge of plants, I believe they are too.
Here are a couple scientific articles:
Calvo P, Sahi V, Trewavas A 2017, ‘Are plants sentient?’, Plant Cell and Environment, vol.40, no.11, pp.2858-2869; DOI: 10.1111/pce.13065
Scialdone A, Mugford S, Feike D, Skeffington A, Borrill P, Graf A, Smith A, Howard M 2013, ‘Arabidopsis plants perform arithmetic division to prevent starvation at night’, Plant Biology, DOI: 10.7554/eLife.00669
Here is also a good article and this one too and this one!, that goes through some of the above research and explains it in a summarised and easier to understand terms compared to just reading through scientific journals. Which may be a bit to dry and hard to understand for most.

I'm curious as to why you have a distaste for vegans? I think it's perfectly fine and good that farmers have and do what they do with farmed animals, I'm just veg cause I dont wanna support the industry taking business from farmers. Have you found most believe differently? Cause I'm about to cause some unrest amongst my people if everybody isnt loving and supporting farmers the way we should
Majority of them are absolutely horrid people. They know nothing about agriculture or animal welfare yet think themselves experts. All while treating actual experts eg. scientists and farmers like idiots and garbage. They hurt actual welfare efforts and the animals they claim to care about, harbour alot of racism + ableism, are outright violent and are some of the worst people I’ve had the displeasure of being around.
As long as you aren’t like the above then I have no beef (mind the pun) with you

i absolutely cannot stand vegan takes on beekeeping if i see one more person say beekeepers are spreading invasive species and they should switch to native bees im going to go crazy. yeah that worked so well lets just use bumblebees! oh wait they already tried that in greenhouses and it spread a shit ton of diseases to wild bumblebees but okay yeah native = good and we just keep honeybees cause we love exploitation and no other reason

Only 1.9% of total U.S. Greenhouse Gas emissions come from cattle! Eliminating or reducing cattle in this country would not only have a MINIMAL impact on cutting emissions, it would remove one of the most nutrient dense foods we eat (beef) and lower the sustainability and health of our pastures and farm land. Farmers should continue to work to minimize their cattle’s impact on the environment, but the good of cattle far outweighs the bad and it doesn’t make sense to eliminate them!
Beef cattle build soil health through grazing and spreading of manure. They allow farmers to grow food for people during the winter. They convert poor forage due to drought into high quality food. They take millions and millions of acres in this country that could not grow food and convert the grass into high quality food. They also improve all of these acres by grazing them and putting nutrients back in the soil. Beef provides many essential nutrients in a diet and is a cheap, healthy, great tasting protein!

highlight quotes;
“… she returned to eating meat after learning that the soybean and corn monocultures that accounted for much of her vegan diet were wreaking havoc on the environment.“
“When we first opened, people were surprised at the prices,” he said. “But our costs are much higher than what a giant company pays. We are paying to have control over the quality of our animals, what they are being fed, how they are being treated, transported, slaughtered and cut up. Once people understood that, the business took off.”
“As soon as I started eating meat, my health improved,” she said. “My mental acuity stepped up, I lost weight, my acne cleared up, my hair got better. I felt like a fog lifted.”
“You can’t be healthy unless the animals you eat are healthy,”
“Rather than being passive and just not supporting an industry I don’t like, I’m taking an active approach by taking thousands of dollars out of it, “ he said. “When people come to me, they aren’t going to Costco for meat.”

Vegans of tumblr, listen up. Harvesting agave in the quantities required so you dont have to eat honey is killing mexican long-nosed bats. They feed off the nectar and pollinate the plants. They need the agave. You want to help the environment? Go back to honey. Your liver and thyroid will thank you, as well. Agave is 90% fructose, which can cause a host of issues. Bye.
