One thing I like about Pixar films is how the happy ending isn’t always what you think it’ll be. The toys don’t go with Andy to college, Gusteau’s restaurant gets closed down, Mike and Sully get kicked out of university, Carl never gets Ellie to Paradise Falls. But they find out that what they wanted isn’t necessarily what they needed, and I really like the fact that kids get to learn that life doesn’t always turn out the way they dreamed and that’s okay.

just over a day ago on july 3rd me and my friend were at auschwitz and we saw survivor eva mozes kor arrive at birkenau. we saw the news a couple of hours ago that she passed away on the morning of the 4th at 85 years old. i guess we're taught about the holocaust like it's history, like it's not relevant anymore, but survivors of it are still walking among us and telling their stories and advocating for peace so these horrors don't happen again. we didn't get to see kor talk but there was something very profound about her presence there, her work founding the candles holocaust museum, and the fact that she made annual trips to auschwitz. i think it's just so important to remember that these events aren't abstract and they didn't happen long ago. there are first hand witnesses to all of the horrendous events in extermination and labour camps. the entire time we were at the birkenau site i was thinking about her bravery in returning so often, her bravery in forgiveness, in promoting peace, in meeting with former nazis and witnessing their testimonies. it really makes it hit home that we have to pay attention and listen to people like eva mozes kor before they can't tell us their stories anymore.
