then they came for you, and you didn’t see them for a long time. when you did finally emerge, you had lost your faith in the idea of cooperation. humanity is on a dark path and you want no more part in it. you drift away toward the fringes of society.

the fringes are harsh and lonely, but there is safety in numbers. you drift further, out into the woodlands, this time bringing others that share in your disillusionment. you wish humanity no ill will, but would much rather keep your distance. eventually, you reason, your kind won’t have need to worry—you are the future.

BACKGROUND:

with your birth came a cacophony of screams—if not for the pain, then for your horrifying visage. you were born different... and in the eyes of your parents, ugly. they took you home, but that’s where their love for you ended.

you spent your life underground, reduced to a monster in a cage. fearful of what you might do with freedom, your parents kept you bound in iron chains. worse still, they sought out all the wrong treatments for your... condition. you were exorcised more than once.

but chains couldn’t hold you forever. in adolescence, you broke free of your prison and took your revenge upon the people—the humans—that had kept you beneath them. on that day, you made a vow... no others of your kind would suffer that way. you would make sure of it.

FUN FACT:

with the help of another mutant, you have gained the ability to take on a convincing human disguise. so convincing, in fact, that even other members of your own organization don’t know your legal identity... and wouldn’t recognize it if they saw it.

BACKGROUND:

unlike many that find shelter in your care, your life started uneventfully. for years, you had considered yourself of the same kind that your family held in such high esteem—just human. but puberty was harsh for you in ways that few could imagine... marking the end of your perfect life and giving rise to an era of rejection from the world around you. 

for years, you try and find your way back, but even tolerance is rare. humans don’t want anything to do with you so long as you can’t hide among them. at first, you feel nothing but shame. anguish. eventually, you grow numb to it.

that’s when you plan your great escape. if humans want nothing to do with you, then you will simply have to take yourself somewhere else. along the way, you meet many like you—those rejected by humanity for their unwelcomely bizarre appearances. you find solace underground, building a community that will never know the hate of the world above.

FUN FACT:

you’ve made two attempts at escape from humanity, the first time above the surface. raids from fearful humans are what drove you below ground.

GET READY FOR THE HOLIDAYS WITH CHICAGO’S ANNUAL WINTERFEST!

it wouldn’t be winter without winterfest! every year, chicago comes together to throw one of the most popular festival’s in the city, drawing crowds from all over to take part in the festivities... and failing that, to volunteer to work the stands. from rides, to games, to a mountain of holiday foods and treats, there’s something for everyone to enjoy! while overall a secular event, there are pockets of booths and activities relating to all manner of winter holidays, from christmas, to hanukkah, to yule... and beyond!

but while fun, the winter this year is particularly biting and as the majority of winterfest is held outside, the city council would like to remind festival-goers to layer appropriately to avoid catching a chill. pack your hats and gloves! the last thing anyone wants is for something to go wrong...

welcome to our first event! ooc, this will run for the entirety of december, but in-character will take place for the stated time ( the 12th–16th ). old threads aren’t required to be stopped, but it is encouraged that you start wrapping them up for the new year! at least one character MUST attend the festivities, but don’t fret— anyone not making an appearance will be excluded from the two activity checks that will take place this month. happy holidays!
