The Devils, Joe Abercrombie - I don't review many books, but this one surprised me. I like the author a lot and have read all of the First Law books. This was same genre, but really a different style. Still world building, great characters, and high stakes, but genuinely funny and a great take on an alternate history of medieval Europe. Carthage and Troy instead of Rome and Constantinople, a savior who died on a wheel, and sorcerors, sorry, magicians and clerics are real and have powers. Highly recommend to anyone who likes fantasy. If the quantity/length of the First Law books have given you pause, this is a very accessible jumping on point for the author.

Holy work sometimes requires unholy deeds.
A moment for the stunning art by Joel Daniel Philips featured in The Devils by Joe Abercrombie😍

28 Years Later
28 Years Later (theater) - 6/6 thumbs (JKX). Violent, bloody, scary, tense, humane, touching, thoughtful and reflective. Great performances from Ralph Fiennes, Jodi Comer and especially the kid, Alfie Williams. Gorgeous countryside. X and K had seen the first movie and I had not, but it was good for all of us. More suspenseful scares than bloody gore, but there is a quantity of that. If you like scary stuff, you should see. Lots of great stuff to justify seeing on the big screen.
