OPEN CALL FOR BETA READERS!

My friends and I at @strangefellowsstudio are writing a graphic novel! As of right now, the first draft is nearly completed and we're looking for beta readers and editors. We're willing to read other works in exchange, or do small drawings of your characters!

In the city of Luxxon, airships are king. They dominate the shipping industry, the cruises, and the taxis. Ada Burke is set to inherit all of it, an idea she's not exactly comfortable with. One night, she overhears an insidious plot to destroy her family's company and narrowly escapes with her life. Hiding in the slums, she must team up with the Starlings, a group of shapeshifting thieves with the charismatic Magpie as their leader. Will they be able to work together? Can she save her family in time?

Starlings is a story about family, connections, and becoming who you choose to be. Read and comment on the first draft here !

This is a newer version, much shorter and straight to the point, when i learned from his past tutorials they were much longer lol, so if u wanna start and don’t wanna watch tutorials an hour long, these are perfect for you.  ♥︎

Hey y’all! This was sitting in my WIPs forever, I’m still not sure if it’s done. Poor Rian is trying to revive Deet through dreamfasting.

First of all thank you! I really appreciate the kind words. Here’s a step-by-step of how I do coloring, using the sketch of that Stonewood family as an example. 

For me, the hardest part of doing colors is choosing them! Color theory is rough, but I usually start by blobbing them on really roughly behind the line art until I get something I like. (if I’m having a particularly tough time I use other art as color reference) When I’m done it looks something like this: 

After that, I add a clipping mask so everything stays in the lines, and I clean up the colors, making sure to add details wherever possible.I use a flat, opaque brush for this. Then I go back in with a textured brush to add blush, dirt, cloth texture etc. This is when I would color any lineart that needs it, too. Then it looks like this:

I use a multiply layer to shade the characters using an the selection tool and an opaque but textured brush (I used the 6B pencil procreate brush here but it honestly changes every time). Then I add a gradient clipping mask over the entire work and mess around with the layer settings until I like it. Then it’s done!

A really fun commission I did of someone who wanted to see themselves as a gelfling (posted with their permission).  They wanted to see themselves as a sifa/dousan, which were some interesting aesthetics to mix. Would anyone else be interested in portraits like these? I’d open slots up for about $15.

Okay, so I know we’re all pretty sad about AOR being cancelled, but the amount of OC artwork I’ve seen in response is amazing! I thought we could keep it going and support each other with an OC art trade. 

Reblog this post with some information or refs about your oc, and you’ll be assigned another random person who entered to draw (or write a short drabble about) their oc! Anyone can enter! The person who makes art for you and the person you make art for are both completely random, so it should be a fun surprise! The only rules are to have fun with it! (and no nfsw, serious gore, etc)
