Hey everyone, this is different than my usual posts, but please bear with me

I want to address an issue that I've been seeing for a long time, something that affects all translators: people flooding our notifications with ship talk.

In my own case, I've said more than once both here and on Twitter that I don't want ships in my notifications, and have even put it in my display name over there. Despite those statements, and reminders about my personal boundaries, it keeps happening. Which is why I feel the need to address it.

Simply put: Please don't put ship talk in translators' notifications (unless the translator asks for it or talks about it first). Translators are real people running real accounts. Everything you put in the tags is delivered right to our notifications for us to read. Shipping is something that's very much a matter of personal preference; everyone has ships they like and don't like. Translators are no different. Most of the time, unless explicitly stated, we're not translating things for shippy purposes. We're simply relaying information so that other fans of our interests can enjoy these stories and other things with us. You can interpret things as shippy, but don't make your interpretation our business. You can make your own posts for it. Putting your ships in translators' notifications is pushing the boundaries of the person behind the translating account.

I am not the only translator out there with boundaries regarding this kind of thing. I know of other translators who were forced to take action over similar things happening to them, some even quitting translating for specific fandoms because of it.

TL;DR: Be respectful. Don't put ships in translators' notifications. No, not even the ~unproblematic~ ones that ~everyone~ likes.

A3! Web Manga Translation — Chapter 312: Japanese

Citron gets confused about Yuzo calling Sakyo "chum," and…?

Note: Although I chose to translate this chapter in a way that'd make sense immediately upon reading it in English, the wordplay in Japanese is different and is worth knowing about. Yuzo has always called Sakyo "bouzu" or 坊主, which is a familiar way to refer to a boy much younger than you. However, the word 坊主/bouzu literally means a Buddhist monk, and in reference to Buddhist monks' shorn heads, can be used to refer to someone who is bald or has very close-cropped hair. In the same way, it's also a fishing term meaning to have caught no fish, and it's theorized that the term comes from those monks having no hair (no hair / no fish).

So, Yuzo calls Sakyo "bouzu" and Citron gets confused, saying that Sakyo has a lot of hair (so he's not "bouzu" as in "bald"). Guy then corrects him and brings up the fishing meaning, and then says Sakyo shouldn't feel bad about his inability to catch fish. Sakyo yells about how it's not the fishing "bouzu" Yuzo is using. I hope that's clear enough!
