finding your identity in Christ - FaithFridays #1 🛁
i know firsthand how confusing it can be being a teenage girl. it's all like "what style should i have?" "who even am i?" and it can be so overwhelming trying to define who you are as, let's face it, a literal child. we get so bogged down in what everyone else thinks, but what if i told you there's only one real person whose opinion we should care about - Christ.
🚿
now that's great to hear and all, but i'll admit, that phrase had me stumped for so long. like what does finding my identity in Christ even mean?? well, it's all about not being as concerned about your appearance and popularity, and just knowing that you are loved, valued, and cared for by God - you are His child.
in Ephesians 2:10, we're reminded that we are God's masterpiece. This means you are unique and you were created to serve a purpose unique to you.
stopping comparing yourself to others is definitely easier said than done, i get that. whether we want to admit it or not, everyone struggles with it, myself included. let's all take a step on this journey to independence and self-worth together.
some ways you can get closer to God are:
🕯 study your bible
🕯 pray more regularly
🕯 start a journal
🕯 surround yourself with people who bring you joy
my challenge for you this week is to spend just 5 minutes every day reading your bible. if you don't have one, there are some great apps you can download like the bible app.
remember, God loves you. He chose you. He created you. you are here to serve your purpose that only you can fulfil. choose to let light into your life today for a happier tomorrow.

hollywood vs hallways 🕯
~~ 💌 how movies get high school totally wrong!
popularity 🕊
in movies, the high school social hierarchy is always super strict and regimented. the jocks and mean girls rule the school, and the nerds, band geeks, and theater kids are a punching bag for the popular kids. we see this in the High School Musical franchise as well as Mean Girls. ☕️
in reality, everyone is sort of friends with everyone and friend groups are much more fluid. you might stick with who you've known since elementary, or who you've made friends with in your classes. ☕️
2. presentation 🕊
in movies like clueless or tv shows such as riverdale, the characters we see show up to school looking runway ready. from fashion forward outfits to flawless hair and makeup these characters flaunt the school hallways like their own personal red carpet. ☕️
in real life, you can show up to most high schools in your pajamas and not be judged. most girls i know wear barely any makeup if any once senioritis sets in (side note - i'm not even a senior yet, i think junioritis and sophomoritis exist too). most days i just scrape my hair back into a a ponytail on my way out the door. ☕️
3. drama (and lack of homework!!!) 🕊
10 things i hate about you and the kissing booth both focus so much on the story. i love both movies so much, but have you noticed the fact that they do like no work whatsoever? like i think i saw kat doing homework in MAYBE one scene. ☕️
in real life, high school is so much more about academics. don't get me wrong, there are a fair few fights, fallouts, and friendship disputes. but at the end of the day, its schoolwork i'm more stressed about. ☕️
4. prom perfection 🕊
we all remember the ICONIC prom scene in twilight. growing up, i always watched it and looked forward to being grown up and going to my own prom and feeling like a princess one day. in movies, prom is the perfect day everyone looks forward to. ☕️
to be honest, prom isn't all that. hair gets messed up, dresses get stepped on, heels break. lots of people couldn't care less who gets prom queen and some don't attend cause its just not their thing. ☕️
5. teacher? or friend?? 🕊
from ms norbury in mean girls to dead poets society's mr keating, teachers in high school movies are so often seen as an extra addition to the characters' friend groups, rather than the authority figures they tend to be off-screen. ☕️
6. instant high school romances 🕊
teen romance in movies often blooms instantly, with the characters jumping headfirst into cute dates, and always having intense, deep emotional connections (To All The Boys I've Loved Before, anyone?) The "boy-meets-girl" trope and "love at first sight" mantra make love seem effortless. ☕️
honestly, relationships are so complicated. you have to work from the ground up, and shit happens. it will be awkward, you will have miscommunications and most of the time it ends in heartbreak. a lot of people don't experience teen romance ever. ☕️
while high school movies are fun to watch, they rarely capture the reality of what it’s like to be a teen girl. the truth is, high school is a lot more ordinary, filled with ups and downs, awkward moments, and real growth. instead of comparing your experiences to Hollywood’s version, embrace your own unique high school journey—it’s way more authentic and special than anything on screen!
