One word: hiatus.
At least until I can get my goddamn muse back. And/or my computer running lag-free.

Lili's was surprisingly crowded. What was usually a quiet, fairly intimate setting was now bustling with energy and sound. Part of Hailey felt intimidated and out of place, but another part of her was grateful for the craziness.
"Do you need me to go?" she asked the waitress quietly when she came for a refill.
Hailey knew Candice from the long, sleepless nights she spent in the cafe watching TV with the owner and the odd staff member stuck with the night shift. It wasn't nightime now, and she wasn't there to eat or have anything more than than a coffee. Hailey couldn't afford it now.
Candice gave her a friendly smile, shaking her head and glancing at the newspaper laid out on the table. "Found a job yet?" she asked.
Hailey shook her head, an unhappy curve to her lips. "Not yet."
"Well, Ella says you can stay as long as you want," Candice added, and with that she turned on her heels and walked away, smiling widely at another group of patrons, offering refills.
Hailey watched her go and heaved a long sigh. Finding a job was proving to be more difficult than anticipated. There was a surprising amount of openings for massage salons, yet Hailey had a sneaky suspicion there was something a little... more going on behind closed doors. She shuddered and looked up, pinching the bridge of her nose.
It was then that she saw Freya. Her first instinct was to slide under the table. For whatever reason, Freya had a knack of making her feel more uncomfortable than other people made her feel. Still, talking to the woman sometimes proved to be easy.
Hailey bit her lip and offered a half wave, unsure if Freya could see her in the crowd. Truthfully, she wasn't entirely certain on whether or not she wanted to be seen in the first place. It was a familiar feeling with a familiar subject. It was just the characters that were different.
But Freya did see her. Maybe she hadn't noticed the wave, but an instant later, she was sitting across from her. The situation reeked painfully of deja-vu. A polite smile curved Hailey's lips upwards.
"Freya," she nodded. "Hello. For a moment, she had no idea what more to say. "Bit hectic today, isn't it?"
A Lunch Break // Freya and Hailey.
Freya grimaced slightly at the bright light beating down on her from the midday sun as she strode out of the hospital, her head held high and proud. Today had been a reasonably good day; she’d already had to perform a pneumonectomy on one of the elder residents in Vero beach. It had been fascinating, the poor dear’s lung was a fetid black, slowly decaying from the deep inlayed cancerous cells, and had brought Freya a good few hours’ worth of entertainment.
A grin pulling at her lips as she remembered this, despite the crowded environment, the mass of people buzzing hectically around her, making her mouth go dry with an aloof disgust. She was better than all of those ordinary people, they didn’t know what it was like to truly see the world and to know exactly how everything fitted together, she did, Freya understood. It’s an interesting fact, she mused to her herself, that the majority of people who suffer from severe constant depression are in the top 10% of the population. Probably because they could see how shallow and pointless life really is.
These thoughts didn’t upset Freya though, if anything it made her happier, after all if she didn’t have some divine purpose and ultimately her life would make no significant difference to the world then surely it was hers to live, and in whatever manner she deemed appropriate. Even if it was in a way that most people would disapprove of.
Musing this over, Freya honestly couldn’t see what was wrong with her philosophy that most people were so strongly opposed to it, after all if she hurt anyone then it certainly wasn’t herself, in fact other’s pain only seemed to exaggerate her own enjoyment, and it wasn’t as if how she affected others influenced her life greatly, if at all, and in the long run to her surely all that should matter was her own life, not others. She wouldn’t die happier just because she’d put someone else above herself, in fact she’d probably be even less happy.
Snapping back out of her self-justified thoughts Freya pushed the heavy door to a café that one of her colleagues had suggested to her, probably in an attempt to free themselves from the psychopath’s presence even if only for an hour extra. Raising a delicate eyebrow as her eyes swept over the cramped café, her lips twitching in revulsion as she saw that the only seats available were on a table with someone already on it. How degrading.
Perhaps she could go somewhere else, somewhere where she wouldn’t have to mingle with other people. But no, she only had an hour of her break and she didn’t have any time to find somewhere else that she knew would serve quality food and not make her want to throw up. She supposed she just have to grin and bear it.
Flipping her hair back over her shoulder, Freya resisted the urge to light a cigarette as she always did when she was stressed, and strode over to the table, her eyes narrowing slightly as she saw Hailey and sat down opposite to the girl.

Oh... good.
And, well, I know. Both areas seem just as hard, except with being a surgeon you need precision and... well, you know. I take it you like your job?

None taken, dear. It’s your life.
Besides I’m not a doctor, per say, I’m a surgeon. There’s a rather large difference.

Or it could decrease them just as dramatically. It depends, I guess.

Jesus, no. I'm starting to feel relieved I haven't applied for any fast food joints, though... truthfully, I'd take those over being a doctor. Uh... no offense.

Being separated from the majority of the human race can increase enjoyment levels dramatically.
-smirks- However the statistics suggest that you most likely will. Though you could get lucky and end up in Tesco’s instead.

That was lucky. Private accommodations certainly beat the whole campus lifestyle. I don't suppose it would've been that bad if the parties weren't so loud, but that's just wild guessing.
... Alright, maybe not that sort of start. I wouldn't fancy being stuck in the fast food industry forever.

I didn’t bother with friends and had enough money to pay for private accommodation after the first year, so that wasn’t a problem for me.
Who know’s, maybe one day, if you’re lucky, you might even be the manager of burger king.

I didn't like it much... Not the loud parties at 2 am and not the classes either.
I... don't have any qualifications. I sort of uh... dropped out. I know I'm not looking at a stellar job, and might not make it past Do you want fries with that? at Mc's, but... it's a start nonetheless.

I suppose it would. I rather enjoyed university apart from the limitations though.
Sounds reasonable to me. Do you have any qualifications, those tend to come in useful.

.... it beats college, so I find it refreshing.
And... well, my brother's helping me until I get settled. I'm paying him back but I need the job first.

Yes… that does sound awfully… refreshing…
So you have no income?

Well, that's good, I suppose.
I'm... actually not doing much. I'm just currently looking for a job and... that's pretty much it. It's really rather refreshing, even if boring in theory.

Trust me, I have plenty of patients. Admittedly the majority of them are old, which is no fun at all really, but where there is a higher population there will always be more opertunities for people like myself.
Enough about me though, what do you do?

Oh, I see. I'm not sure how much life-threatening injuries you'd have to perform on... Vero Beach is pretty quiet, I believe. Or, well... it seems that way, at least. But, uh, good luck? With the salary and everything else, I mean...

I’m a surgeon, dear. The more people in nasty life threatening situations the more operations I perform. Which is always entertaining in it’s self, but it also means I have a higher salary.
