People in the Discord group already know about this but I figured that everyone should get a little heads up about the current status of the group. Yes, the group still exists. Thanks to our fabulous and dedicated members. Us admins just have no time whatsoever, and I mean this, we seriously have no time, to be here. Little old me is currently dealing with a serious flu which led to a possible ear infection today on both ears, my wisdom tooth is coming through which causes a lot of pain and stress and this is my first week of internship where I work from nine to five and have to take the train home which costs me like an hour, with actual work after that on Thursdays. It’s already a wonder I’m giving up sleep for this message, but it’s only fair to you guys.

Anyway, so we’re really busy. This doesn’t mean you guys have to leave the group. We encourage everyone to continue writing and plotting, like everything is back to normal. For urgent questions you can always message me on Discord, or on Dawn as I’m logged into her on my phone. Maybe I can do new acceptances eventually, but that will need to be discussed. I’ll be back soon loves, and I’m sure the other admins will be too.

for the event since it's stretched over two weeks how will we know when the next activity starts. ex. when the block party ends and the eclipse one begins. <3

You can roleplay any of the events over the course of the next two weeks in any order, we just gave the days as a point of reference as to what is going on!

Summer is coming to an end, which means that barbecued hot dogs are out and roasted marshmallows are in. To end the season with a bang, Hickory Creek is all but closing down to host a week worth of activities leading up to it’s annual Burning Boat Festival to give everyone a fresh start in the fall. The festival brings in people from all around Connecticut and it’s surrounding states to the small town, so it’s a big tourist (and cash) draw.  Known as one of the greater fall festivals in New England, it is a week long affair with multiple events and activities that can bring joy to all ages. There’s something for everyone to do.

The 2017 Burning Boat Festival schedule of events is as follows:

SUNDAY 8/20 - The annual Hickory Creek block party, also known as the last barbecue of the summer, hosted by the local police force and fire department and ending with a display of fireworks.

MONDAY 8/21 - A free pair of glasses will be handed out to everyone that attends the free Eclipse Viewing Party on the beach.

TUESDAY 8/22 - The Hickory Creek Talent Show will double as auditions for the last spots at Sunday’s music festival. The top two high school acts will also win scholarships awarded by the Kent and Tate families.

WEDNESDAY 8/23 - Taste of Hickory Creek in Town Square featuring food vendors from local restaurants and a wine tasting for adults.

THURSDAY 8/24 - The Arts and Crafts Fair will feature art, jewelry and more from local artists with free face painting for the kids. The night will end with a silent auction for some of the more elaborate pieces.

FRIDAY 8/25 - SATURDAY 8/26 - Carnival in the parking lot at Hickory Creek School Corner to raise money for the schools. Features small carnival rides as well as the usual game booths and fair food tents manned by High School Juniors and Seniors.

SUNDAY 8/27 - All day music festival on the beach featuring local and national talent and headlined by country singer Kelsea Ballerini, leading up to the burning boat ceremony Sunday night.

TUESDAY 8/28 - First day of the 2017-2018 school year for students.

Due to the size of this event, it will last for TWO WEEKS out of character, and we ask that during this time, most of the starters and new interactions revolve in some way around the event. You can choose which events your character would be most involved in to participate in. At the end of the week, we will post a task that will coincide with the event (hint: it involves the burning boat) and while it is not required to do tasks, they are encouraged for development.

Now that acceptances are done, we have some super exciting things happening this weekend, so be on the lookout for updates and announcements and all of that. We are honestly floored by the number of applications we’ve received in such a short amount of timetime and how active the dash is already, you’re all amazing okay. We love you. We were wanting to get the event up and running tonight but since some of the staff team is unavailable until Sunday, we thought it would be best to hold off until then to start the event. That being said, the event is going to be really fun and include a task so get excited for that!! And don’t worry, if you want to participate in the event you can send in an app this weekend to be accepted on a special Sunday acceptance so make sure to send your app in ASAP!

with the rp getting so big so fast, do you guys need any additional help with the main?

you cannot base a rp on assumed connections alone. i get it's a small town rp, but not everyone likes plotting and not everyone wants to assume connections. some things have to happen by chance and people should have the opportunity to build chemistry before connections. that's an important part of rp it builds flow and allows people to stretch their wings. you limit that because "it's a small town rp" and this is going to burn out fairly quickly.

Our members are open to do whatever they want. They are not forced to assume connections and we encourage them to do whatever they want. Starters contain the ‘assume connections’ tag just in case someone prefers that. Characters can start off as strangers and turn out to be lovers, best friends or enemies. It’s all up to the writers. We don’t limit anyone.

i thought about joining hickory at first but your starter tag is so discouraging. idk if i'd want to be in a rp that relies so heavily on plotting/closed starters???

Looking through the starter tag, I wasn't able to find any closed starters? Maybe assumed connections, but it is a small town roleplay where people would more than likely be familiar with everyone else. We also very much encourage plotting with everyone, so there may be some closed threads on the dash for that reason. We’re not sure why relying heavily on plotting with others would be a bad thing, since we want everyone to feel included with threads for everyone! :)
