— BACKGROUND CHECK...

born and raised like royalty. small hands that never had to do a single thing, as knees were bent before him. small feet, unable to hold up his own weight, and people were helping him walk. if being too privileged were a crime, he would be a prime suspect of such immorality. he sits up, back straight, just like how his mother told him to. he speaks, eloquently, just like how his mother told him to. he walks with pride, shoulders pushed back, and head held high, just like how his mother told him to. too afraid to fight back, too afraid to have an opinion, too afraid to have his privileges revoked.

he was raised like a king, golden spoon lathered with diamonds encasing the utensils, as he barely allows it to graze to tips of his teeth. he was barely hitting the double digits, when his parents tells him that they expect great things from him, standards that were set too high. far too high for a simple child to grasp and all he does is nod, just like how his mother told him to. 

suppressed were his emotions, and anger fuelling his spirit. golden hues that burn with a passion that not even the yang’s could support. distaste in their gaze as they turn him away, urging to sway his decisions. singing and dancing surely wasn’t enough to make a living as grandeur as the yang’s have been. parent’s who were raised to become successful, paths that were already paved, to become a surgeon was the only plan of action within their household. a legacy that is carried deep within their name, yet here sat a pitiful teenager with hopes and dreams that were crushed and shattered by knives and sutures. 

he finally breaks free. falls into the wrong crowd and inevitably gets swayed to do things beyond the control of his parents. their overseeing eye dissipating, just as how his relationship with them breaks. first, it was a few words of advice, they tell him to rethink his decisions, to follow their guidance and to cut off his circle of friends. urging him to mix with the right people. but he fails them a second time. lit up cigarettes and smoky rooms, his tried them all and they’ve all tried him. time and time again, and he gets hooked like a fish on a line and he can’t seem to set himself free. sanguine stains across his lip and he tastes defeat. 

second, a lecture that inevitably came. they screamed and yelled at him, rather than to him. not entertaining the thought of his actions, and disregarding the poor child’s experiences. but it doesn’t stop him, it only pushes him to do more, to be worse and to let it all consume him and it soon does. he fights a losing battle that he gives up quite easily. he lays in a slump, all ambition drained from his soul. however, they give him a second chance. once more to redeem himself and prove them wrong. they figure that leaving him at a residential treatment centre was the only option left, the best money could buy. a year goes by and he hits the bright age of sixteen, officially set free. 

his dreams and ambitions not changing, as he returns home with an ignited passion for the artistry of his soul. hands on the sweaty towel, as dance lessons and singing classes took over his life, but his parents tell him no. they offer him an ultimatum, a threat to set him on the right path again, one that he rejects and to their surprise, he packs his things in a single backpack and heads for south korea. 

the next few years are spent in a blur. he recalls the bright lights of the city, reflecting against the glasses that shield him on the walk to his studio. his mother, pleading for his return, sending him a generous allowance at the end of every month, his father soon follows suit as their pleads go unheard. 

a few auditions down the line, and miraculously, his prayers do not fall on deaf ears. he gets recruited to be a part of a well-known label. crown entertainment taking him under their wing, as he makes a name for himself and sells his soul to be the very best. a few albums under his belt and spends the next year, crafting his art. going on tour and basking in the glory of his success. perfecting it and solidifying his name, engraving it in gold and watching as his parents praise the child they had rejected years ago. how fame and successful changes a person is astounding to him.

— CONFIRMING IDENTITY...

with an astounding lack of affection, he grew up not knowing what kindness is. hostility runs in his veins and he lets it slide and trickle down by his temples, personified sweat that builds up an image of guilt and greed. he likes to the validation, the words that compliment his efforts, he doesn’t ask for much, just for someone to see him for the good that he brings to the table. he is kind of oh so loyal, a thick facade that cements itself to his features, a faux personality that becomes his reality as the differences are blurred.

though he struggles, and he struggles deeply with himself. he is unable to find balance, two extremes and no middle ground. he struggles with an uphill battle that is always a losing one. he cheats the system, simply because his parents are known, he tugs on their heart strings, the weakness they display. he gives up too easily at times, but becomes too stubborn on other occasions. polar opposites that don’t seem to make sense, but he has come this far but clearly not far enough.

they call him the family’s lucky star — his father found an untapped oil mine the same time his mother was pregnant with him. wealth cascaded into the wang family as they sought a new life in south korea. his name means “triumph and victory”; his birth representing the family’s triumph in ascending the social hierarchy which also means victory in life, as they’d like to believe. wang kai was born into riches and luxury, much unlike his older sibling who had experienced a simpler childhood. for him, winter meant snowball fights and hot chocolate at the family’s winter lodge instead of curling up in his mother’s knitted blanket sipping on ginger tea to stay warm.

to say he was pampered is an understatement. the wangs would do anything for their children and now that they could, they gave them everything they asked for, particularly wang kai, their youngest child. they moved into hwang geum at the peak of his father’s oil business and wang kai naturally enrolled into the prestigious hwang geum elementary school. his studies were average, occasionally dipping down to below average. this used to be a problem for his parents until they discovered his flair for sports — an excuse they could give to nosy neighbours and family friends for why he wasn’t excelling academically.

connections and his aptitude in sports allowed him to continue his education in the hwang geum affiliated campuses. he was accepted into hwang geum high school as a swimmer and clinched several awards for the school during his time there. you would also catch him at the basketball court with his buddies or playing golf with his father on the weekends. for someone who has it all, wang kai was not the least bit ambitious. he did not strive to get into his “dream university” — heck, that term has never crossed his mind. with no career goals or clear aspirations for the future (besides getting his hands on that limited edition ferrari before he turns 25), his parents only requirement for him was to get into a university and graduate with a degree they deem fit. with subpar results, he barely made it into hwang geum university’s business faculty where he continues his carefree “one day at a time” lifestyle.

— CONFIRMING IDENTITY...

with words sweeter than his boyish grin, wang kai has a way of getting whatever he wants. be it getting out of trouble or into your pants, nothing really serves as a challenge for him. mischievous and wilful by nature, he often landed himself into the principal’s office as a child, only to get himself out with his wit and glib. his parents could never bear to utter a harsh word or bring themselves to spank him — he was their precious baby, or 心肝宝贝 (xīn gān bǎo bèi) as they’d like to say. his tall stature and chiseled good looks garnered much attention from the opposite sex and boy, did he enjoy that. every toy car he wanted, he gets; every girl he sets his eyes on, he gets. he never really had to work for anything he wanted and that contributed in his rather narcissistic and frisky personality. some find it hard to take him seriously and others label him as insincere or unreliable; he goes where the party is and flees when it comes down to business and commitment. call him a cliché if you must, he is just like every rich man’s youngest son you would read about in books and movies — you’d roll your eyes at his antics yet find yourself quite possibly falling for him.

jeon danbi was the apple of her parents’ eyes the moment their gazes landed on their youngest baby’s plump cheeks and milky skin. as a toddler, whenever the room rang with her sweet and soft laughter, like the sound of tinkling bells, no one within a radius of ten meters could resist laughing along as well. with her infectious liveliness, it’s no wonder the youngest of the jeons quickly became everyone’s favourite, the family’s little princess. for danbi, happiness has always been simple. it’s jumping on her dad’s back and playing “let’s pretend”, it’s her mum softly whispering a fairytale by her ears as a bedtime story, it’s running around the house for a game of catch with her siblings. just as her family adored her, her world revolved around them as well.

beyond the grand veneer of the hwanggeum gated community are corners teeming with shadows, people who are not what they seem. danbi’s parents have always kept her away from all these dark parts of the community, raising her to be a bright beam of sunshine. they taught her to be polite, to treat everyone with a loving heart, and to stand up for justice. danbi, who has always lived by these principles, grew into a bubbly girl who always chooses to see the best in people. some might say her parents failed to prepare her for the monsters creeping beneath the shadows of hwanggeum, but to that, danbi would proudly declare that she intends to burn this disgrace of a planet with all the love and good she can muster. at the end of the day, she believes that light will conquer the darkness.

seeing that their youngest daughter was such a lovely girl, danbi’s parents only began to dote on her even more as she grew. what more could they ask from her? so they gave into every one of her whims, no matter how ridiculous they were, and let her live unbridled. she wants the latest smartphone? they get it for her the next day. branded handbags? her walk-in closet is filled with them. she doesn’t want to attend university because studying just isn’t for her? no problem, her parents are here to plan a future for her– they buy her a house and pull strings to get her a job at the hwang geum community centre, as an events assistant, the best fit for her active and outgoing self.

at twenty one years of age, even though danbi is all grown up, she continues to be coddled as the jeon family’s precious little darling.

it’s a bird, it’s a plane. no, wait– it’s just jeon danbi, hwanggeum’s resident all-round sunshine, strutting down the streets in her new heels. with the jeon family’s signature indomitable spirit and an unfaltering innocence in her twinkling eyes, danbi’s soul has always been pure and genuine. unadulterated joy emanates from her every smile. the sound of her laughter, bright and cheerful like a spring flower blooming, permeates the air around her and brings the warmth of the morning sun. it’s no wonder she’s loved by everyone, and she lives in a bubble of “the world is amazing”. though be warned, as much as she is a ray of sunshine, danbi is also incredibly stubborn and fiercely loyal. all 159 centimetres of her tiny statute can, and will, kick your ass if she ever sees you a) hurting someone she cares about, b) hurting anyone in general because she cares about everyone or c) doing anything that is morally wrong by jeon danbi’s laws.

Hello everyone, we hope you’ve been doing well and staying safe.

We’re just updating everyone on some changes that are going to take place on the main effective immediately. 

The first, starting tomorrow onwards, we will be doing rolling acceptances. This is to encourage more people to apply and be able to join right away instead of waiting. We don’t know for how long we’ll keep this in effect, but for now, we will be posting them as they come in. We’ll set a general acceptance time to mass post them, but if any applications come after that, we will post them right away, provided an admin is around to create the graphic and update the main. If any applications come before that time, it will be added to the mass posting for that day. 

The second, until further notice, we will allow muns, new and old, to apply for two muses at once. Again, this is to encourage more participation and interactions with others. Please be mindful of your own activity when applying and please note that the maximum muse cap is still in effect, so you can only have up to four muses. For our current members, the rules in activity still come into effect if you wish to pick up more muses. If you are not currently active, we may still choose to decline your application, but it’ll be handled on a case by case basis.

We hope to see more of you join our wonderful community and take part in our upcoming event.
