I love Marcus. I love Sydney. I do not like Sydmarcus. It's just not my jam. Yes, I am a Sydcarmy shipper but even if they don't happen, I would much prefer there to be no syd x marcus for one simple reason: it would be so REFRESHING for a woman to get to reject a man's advances and NOT end up being his girlfriend at the end.

Marcus is the sweetest boy in the land. As Nat said, "do not fuck with Marcus". I want Marcus happy. But it's also sooooo freeing to see a man get rejected and for the woman and him to be friends afterwards. AND for her not to go "oh! oh my god! i just--I never realized how SWEET you are until after I rejected you! let's KISSSSSS!!!"

That's where we let Suzanne fill in those blanks. I don't know how she'd undo the arena or what the plot against the Capitol could have been during her games. But it is exciting to think about. And it's certainly plausible that during that long stretch of time before Katniss appears, other victors and allies were looking for cracks in the system. Johanna could have very well been one of them. This isn't something we know for sure. But imagining it is not outside the realm of possibilities.

Just like Haymitch's games: what is true vs. what are people told? How much of Johanna's games were warped.

I love (but also hate) the idea that Johanna was just another "failed" Mockingjay. How much did she sacrifice/attempt in her games that made her lose everyone she loved? How close was she to being the reason the games ended? How many districts or even people in the Capitol did she expose to the truth of things only for her to be bitter, angry, and alone after all that effort?

And then along comes Katniss. She's blunt and rough around the edges just like you are. And she gets to be revered in a way you never were. She's loved for her "bad attitude" and flawed personality in ways no one else in the movement has loved you. She's the promise you never got to fulfill to not only your district, your mentors, but yourself too.

You go from being full of potential to just another soldier, helping out a more "palatable", more "inspiring" version of yourself. You were never good enough to be Katniss, so you think. So why play nice? Why not play into the aggression and the spite? It's all you have left.

Correct, but I'm thinking of the "Sunrise on the Reaping" of it all, i.e. what could have happened in Johanna's games that Snow/the Gamemakers/the Capitol had to cover up or didn't show the public?

The retconning of Haymitch's games was so meticulously covered up that even his home district of 12 thought he "outsmarted" his opponents (something Peeta says in b1 I believe). When in SOTR we see Haymitch spend the entire game trying to destroy the arena.

So it's not a question of did Johanna succeed in stopping the games, but rather, how much of her efforts (just like Haymitch) was covered up by Snow/the gamemakers because she got so close?
