I thought of something about Lae'zel and Xunlas

They both come from cultures that don't encourage love, lust and respect is acknowledged but the two are gonna have to deal with some stuff that will make them question a lot of things. Once the feelings sets in its going to be interesting lol

He basically becomes yandere

Genuinely convinced that the people who love Ascended!Astarion and argue with people about him genuinely loving Tav the same way he did before, or it being his best ending over Spawn (in terms of character arc, not taste) legit only picked the enthusiastic options for Tav when dealing with him, and most certainly didn't break up with him and talk to him afterward. He says some downright chilling shit to a Tav who refused to become a spawn.

And like, sure, it's because he's hurt and he's coping to some degree. Astarion can be vicious even in a good mode, and Tav agreeing to help him ascend only to essentially abandon him is painful to deal with, but of all the shit for him to say??

Tav can argue that he's becoming like Cazador the night before, and he gets so hurt and angry if Tav says that, and it makes sense! It's a harsh thing to say, and even after that argument, no matter what, Astarion will be willing to let it go if Tav wants to stay together and agrees to become his Spawn. You can run through the entire dialogue tree again before it forces you to pick an out option, that's how desperate he is to keep them. But like goddamn how can you beat the accusations if you're willing to say shit like this?? A thing that could have easily come straight from Cazador!

Regardless, however, of his desperation, his real feelings, Ascended!Astarion is fundamentally different, in his mind, than how he used to be. Magic has literally corrupted him, changed what his body is capable of, the curse that he was given as a spawn is different now. Sure, Astarion didn't stop loving Tav the second the ritual was over, or the day after or the day after that, but even he knows he's changing, and rapidly, but he can only recognize so much of what's different, and everyone else can see what he can't. By his epilogue at the end of the game, he might as well be another vampire lord, just far, far more dangerous.

Xunlas Baenre Sorcerer/Monk/Fighter

I think this verse suits his situation as a member of House Baenre and how he feels about Lolth and many of the events that happen involving with his family and their plans.

This is especially after the death of his mother Tiriel Baenre by his aunt Quenthel who is his archrival who he attempted to kill quite a few times.

Xunlas does not like Lolth especially after the Silence of Lolth seeing her as abandoning her followers. He also doesn't really like many of her teachings. But he never did rebel till at some point after Drizzt managed to kill Quenthel. (Xunlas may or may not play a role for Drizzt to kill her as he couldn't do after many attempts.)

@feluka Are you me with better ability to explain things? thats exactly how I feel about Astarion. I would say "Dude I understand you are in a very scary situation. I'll be happy to help you out anyway I can but if you try to mess with me I'll punch you in the face." That was my first thought of him.

btw since i had my reservations at the beginning: my verdict on astarion is that he's a well written (and delightfully performed) character and that people are just weird about him. like, based on the portrayals i saw of him on the internet i expected him to be an insufferably over the top character who makes sexual references every other sentence hazbin hotel style but turns out he's a reasonable and believable character with natural-flowing dialogue and people are just weird lol. ('reasonable' here refers to the way he's written - i'm aware he's unhinged as a person)

it's a shame because i feel like whenever there's an honest portrayal of victims of sexual violence, fandom tends to make such an... uncomfortable spectacle out of it?

like for example, when people talk about how his eagerness to initiate something with your character is born from his trauma, that's definitely true, but fandom's portrayal of it makes it sound like he's throwing himself at everyone left and right every second of the day every day and then they're like 'omg it's so sad how he's doing that.. his trauma..' like are you sure that isn't mostly you being weird about him 😭 because he literally never propositioned my character until the game throws you the 'hey if you missed the chance to romance a character earlier or if you weren't aware of your options, here's your chance' campfire scene where literally every single character propositions you. and when i declined he never did again 🤷‍♂️

and some of his unpleasant behavior literally can't be excused by his past at all and is just him being a little shit which is also a fun aspect of his character that's worth considering. idk it doesn't sit well with me that people are turning his whole deal into an 'omg my dark broody vampire prince' instead of. engaging with the character seriously.

im sad thinking about how unhappy she was in Menzo... despite her upbringing and all the luxuries being noble afforded her she was never happy with her existence under Lolth. It happens in real life, so I feel like there are more drow than we think who feel this way.

Xunlas Baenre's Relationship with his Family/Noble House part 1 (My Drow Tav)

Xunlas has an extremely complex and messed up relationship with his family.

His mother Triel Baenre, his relationship is more or less a ruler with a bodyguard or advisor as familial bonds are mostly non existent. I headcanon that Triel actually did raised him herself along with her mother Matron Yvonnel Baenre before she died. Triel is one of the few members of House Baenre Xunlas harbors no hatred. He did respected her and obeyed her and knows not to mess with her.

His half brother Jeggred, Xunlas finds him extremely impulsive though he tolerate him more of less. (Its likely cause both he and Xunlas were born to fathers that were not drow.)

Gromph, Xunlas respects him and acknowledges Gromph's work as a wizard. He did work together with his uncle on different occasions especially trying to kill his aunt Quenthel quite a few times. And Xunlas did play a role in teaching Gromph's daughter Liriel even though he finds her quite annoying.
