This was my bullshit for after-work fun, at least for a while. I created the Cooper pattern first and loved it so much, I just had to do one for the Ghoul. In case you aren't picking up on the influence, these were inspired by the fabric and wallpaper patterns of the mid-century, specifically those around cowboys. I love creating repeating patterns and those have always been fascinating. I also got to play around with some amazing color palettes thanks to a big set of photos of the Arizona desert.

Yacht rock isn't my favorite. I prefer Hawaiian, calypso, and exotica (like Martin Denny and Les Baxter). But I always enjoyed Jimmy Buffett's songs. They were so chill. I did this in tribute to the Mayor of Margaritaville.

I must confess that I LOVE Patrick Wilson. His portrayal of Ed Warren is top notch. It's so fun that he's a Ghost fan and that he got to sing with them on Stay (Shakespears Sister cover) for the Insidious: The Red Door soundtrack. I figured he could be Cardinal Patrizio, an honorary member of the band.

Hi Barbie! Hi Ken!

I'm pretty curious about the Barbie movie. And since I like to create coloring pages and don't get to do that often, I figured why not.

How do the Papas like their coffee?

Papa Nihil likes his decaf (probably at least 6 hours old) barely above room temperature with enough milk and artificial sweetener to mellow the burned-cigarette bitterness. The defacing of the mug is a mystery, but he just KNOWS it was Copia. Primo takes his double shot of single origin espresso in a custom porcelain and silver cup. He savors the crema from the top then dunks each of the three sugar cubes in one at a time with his silver spoon. Call it a ritual. Secundo prefers you warm the giant steel mug with boiling water before adding his preferred central American coffee, freshly ground of course. And when he's sipped it down, he'll drizzle in the stout espresso shot. Do NOT talk to him unless that shot glass is empty. Terzo's coffee is fire and ice, just like him. He'll settle for artisan vanilla bean gelato if that's all you have, but the smoky finish of bourbon vanilla is a perfect compliment to the sweet espresso. The flashy, jingly spoon was a gift to himself after Nihil bent his old favorite spoon trying to pry open a jar of pickles. Copia likes things super sweet, but also a little spicy. His cinnamon mocha always looks so picture perfect in the "I Love Rats" diner mug. The cinnamon stick is a tasty way to stir the chocolate and Seester always keeps him stocked on spicy cinnamon heart candies for the top.

I just had to do some more Ghost personas, starting with Papa in his baseball uniform.

If you have Ghost, you have the perfect subjects for an exploration of simple line, form, and color. This set was so much fun! Papa IV with his coffee cup, charming Terzo, Kiss the Go-Goat Nihil and Sister are my favs. Though who could resist Cardi’s trike with rat friends?

Nothing ever lasts forever...

I don’t know why exactly, but the new Ghost album Impera gave me an art nouveau vibe. Maybe it’s the idea of an opulent build-up to destruction. I fashioned this portrait of Papa Emeritus IV in a somewhat Mucha style, surrounded by fire and bats. He stands in the rubble of an empire as pennies rain down (hint to the song Twenties) and holds a censer made of a human skull. That smoke was SUPER fun to illustrate.

This is what happens when you peruse mid-century groups after you watch Ghost videos. Plague-themed rain lamp, why not?
