this might be demotivating for someone idk (this is about me its not intentional demotivation)

im tired of having to not care in order to maybe get in the void state. i know i'm supposed to be the person who already has it but it's starting to stress me out and i dont know how to get into the void state and i don't know how to not fall asleep during it and i don't know how to get to the void state using the hypnagogic state. i don't want to ask someone else to manifest the void state for me because i know i'm capable of doing it but the most i can do (or at least the most i have done so far) is get really relaxed and try to force myself out of my head (if that makes sense)

and i know that saying these things wont help and that "you saying these things is why you don't shift or get in the void state" but i have no other way to express myself. im genuinely stressed out ☹️

maybe it's just because it's an interest, but i might make a slay the princess dr, but one with little to no violence or something painless because i can't handle pain... or maybe an au or something because violence is a huge part of the game so idk... what do i do

I think some of the shifting community needs to play Slay The Princess. It's a great game, great story, but it has some interesting aspects that I think are worth mentioning (Affirming, Ego, Assumption)

Disclaimer: I am in no way, shape or form trying to say that these were the developers' intentions, I've just been reeeaally into shifting/void state and Slay The Princess at the same time.

Spoilers (obviously) below, click if you completed at least one playthrough or if you just don't care about spoilers (which i do not reccomend, this game is beautiful)

Another note: If you have not played this game, just know a lot of this information will feel confusing and overwhelming, I will try to explain everything as much as I can and I will answer any questions! The game itself is not easy to understand, sometimes things are labeled as "contradictions" and don't make sense, but they are still somewhat understandable.

For those who don't know:

- Princess = "Shifty" (the shifting mound, god of transformation)

- TLQ = The Long Quiet (Protagonist)

- The Narrator = imagine the narrator from stanley parable but he's telling you to slay the princess

- "Voice of the..." voices you get after dying

Basically The Narrator was just a normal guy who hated death and suffering so he torn off transformation (which includes death/The Shifting Mound), and everything else (TLQ).

"for she becomes that which others perceive her to be." remember that!

In the game, we are told to slay the princess. However, no matter what we do, we jump to a new chapter. (E.g: If you manage to slay the princess without hesitation, you jump over to a second chapter. "Chapter II: The Spectre" and the princess changes accordingly to your actions and thoughts.) We gain different voices in the routes we get (Voice of the Cold) but we have a consistent voice that isn't The Narrator: Voice of the Hero.

Every chapter, TLQ gets transported into another universe/reality (are you thinking what I'm thinking?) which is usually, if not every time he dies. But there is something that stays: The Narrator. Everytime you get to a new chapter, The Narrator is different. It's the same person, but he has no memory of the previous chapters, so sometimes he will try to convince you that this is your first time in the woods.

However, sometimes they are not in this world-jumping nonsense. Sometimes they are in The Long Quiet as gods who were reduced to... something. "We are oceans reduced to shallow creeks." - Shifty

(I did say TLQ was the player, but I'll try to explain this as best as I can: The player doesn't know he is The Long Quiet, not until after he got answers from The Narrator. When he realizes, he is described: "You are in The Long Quiet. This is all you." I can only say it that way. He is The Long Quiet.)

Don't understand? That's okay, I didn't understand anything on my first playthrough.

Affirmations:

There are multiple instances and moments in the game where something instantly manifests into reality, into truth, just by saying it would.

On the route The Wraith the princess enters our body and starts walking out of the cabin from the hallway.

The Narrator affirms "No, the hallway gets even longer!" which ends up being true, but it's easy to grasp that he can do that since his job is to narrate what's going on, especially because later on we learn that nothing will happen if The Narrator doesn't describe it to us, or at least, we won't experience it. The princess speaks louder "THE DOOR IS RIGHT THERE." which, guess what, ends up being true.

There is a moment in Moment Of Clarity (see what i did there?) where there is a mirror infront of us, of which The Narrator cannot see. Our only option says "Proceed." The Narrator is confused, and so is Voice of the Hero, "That's a new one. Do you think that'll work?"

The Voice of the Cold affirms "It already has worked." and the mirror was gone (that's what's supposed to happen). I wanted to add this one because of the way he phrased it, the same way you would affirm "It's already mine." when manifesting something!

Assuming:

Something I noticed was that The Narrator was telling us very limited information, and later on, in routes like The Adversary or the moment we get to see him, we learn that's because whatever we assume the princess to be, the princess and reality itself will follow just that. This is why different actions, not only leads to different routes, but changes the Princess, and sometimes the rest of the environment too.

If we think something about the princess (or even better, assume) it becomes reality. It's mentioned in The Princess and The Dragon, while we are inside the princess' mind, the princess switches and flickers between dead and alive, and she says "I guess 'you' don't really know what I'm supposed to be." or "Make up your mind, body. Will you?" Because, again, she becomes whatever you perceive her to be.

Ego:

Ego resists change, the same way that The Narrator tries to end death so people continuously live forever, no one has to die and suffer. But in the same way people continuously exist, nothing new happens because that would mean change. Which is awful, which The Narrator realizes in Happily Ever After. He is shown exactly how the kind of world he wants would be if The Long Quiet had succeeded in slaying the princess like he "was supposed to."

Also, when trying to convince us that it's our first time in the woods, he tries to say things like "The Princess is clearly not dead." But those words have no power against the voices.

Except, when shown otherwise, he has no choice but to accept the truth. Sometimes he needs physical evidence to finally believe that something has happened before, but sometimes only words are needed to make him believe. This is usually because the voices talk about things they aren't supposed to know about (like mentioning the princess before The Narrator tells them about it).

Also, he says "My duty is to report facts as facts." Sound familiar? It's like a stubborn ego identifying with something you're clearly not. Don't listen to your narrator! Listen to yourself and identify with the you that you want to be, because you already are. You are not your ego, just like TLQ isn't The Narrator!

Bonus:

Void state?

Another bonus: Again, in The Wraith, the Voice of the Hero (I think?) says "Can't you, like, manifest a rock on top of her head?" and everytime they say manifest in this game I'm like. YES

Being ANTI-AI in the Shifting Community feels so surreal, like—do I hate this reality? Yes. Do I wanna leave it? Yes. But am I upset to people using AI to generate images; using NATURAL RESOURCES from our home planet, destroying our ecosystem slowly—but with the amount of people using it, making it faster? YES. This is still my reality, and it's infuriating to see AI generated images even outside of the Shifting Community. As an artist, it's disheartening, photo bashing can be learned, it can be found on the internet and you can credit the artist. How hard is it?
