Oh what I wouldn’t give to go to a coffee shop and get a piece of quiche and a cup of English breakfast and sit, unmasked, looking around the café, until I spot someone I know, and wave at them, and they walk over, and we look into each other’s naked faces and realize, er, this is awkward, we don’t know what exactly to say to each other or how long we should talk or what we should talk about, and after a few minutes of strained conversation they say “well, I’ll let you get back to work,” whereupon I offer a cumbersome sitting-side-hug, too immersed in my own discomfort to have fully risen from my chair, yet too drawn toward their human body to let the moment pass without contact, and I think to myself as they walk away how weird the average random human encounter so often is, and I go back to staring at my laptop until, thirty minutes later, I see someone else I know, and the whole thing happens again.

Yeah. That would be nice.

just do a little bit every day. you don’t need to put aside an hour, or half an hour, or even 15 minutes. you don’t need to set a specific time frame in which you promise yourself that you’ll get things done. all you need to do is a little bit, and do it every day. line a single panel of a comic page. write a single sentence of your story. paint a single stroke on your canvas. just do one thing. even if you’re moving at a snail pace, you’re still moving

A long time ago an anon asked my thoughts about drawing backgrounds, so I finally got around to putting this together. It’s more prop-centric, but it still represents my philosophy to backgrounds. 

I’ll try to do something more about drawing actual background spaces in the future! Please let me know what you think, if anything is unclear, or if you have suggestions for other tutorials you might find helpful!
