I feel like I should periodically ask again: Does anyone know where I might track down a copy of this, either streaming or hard copy? It seems that Laurence Olivier’s career is not so well archived as to include this 1959 adaptation of The Moon and Six Pence. (Yes, I know it’s ridiculous to have Jean Marsh playing a SE Asian woman.)

A very lovely friend gave me this out of print audiobook (literally a book on tape) of Jean Marsh narrating Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier. It’s abridged, but I don’t think I’ve yet seen a non-abridged version with her narrating. I’ll have to do some research. Looking forward to listening to this nonetheless. Yes, I still have a cassette player.

Bless my newfound access to the NYT Time Machine. Here’s Jean Marsh as Hero in a 1959 production of “Much Ado About Nothing.”

Quote
For "The House of Eliott," the issue of control is especially relevant because of the nature of the material. Ms. Marsh notes that during the developmental stages "word came down -- we're not sure from whom -- that this was not to be a feminist series." She leaves little doubt that, for her and her partner, it is feminist in nature. Jeremy Gwilt, the producer of "The House of Eliott," sees the project quite differently. "My job is to please viewers by presenting them something not filled with issues they've found their screens loaded with every day," he says. "This series is about straightforward human relationships." And perhaps audiences will be more fascinated by Beatrice's growing personal involvement with Jack, the handsome photographer, than by her role as his employee, or more interested in the attraction between Evangeline and her half-brother, Sebastian, than in the raising of her consciousness.
TELEVISION; From the People Who Gave You The Bellamys (New York Times, July 12, 1992)
(FFS... 25 years later and we’ve still got, for instance, this recent Handmaid’s Tale adaptation commentary showing what little progress we’ve made.)

God I love a good nerdy project like this. A+

First I covered classic Doctors. But here’s what that crazy project was really about: companions! [Click graphs for full-sized.]
Once upon a time, Jamie was the longest-serving Doctor Who companion (unless you count the Brig). While I adore Jamie to bits, I was curious to see how things stack up with audio dramas included. Along the way, I discovered a few surprises… and a few howlers!
Note: This post covers TV companions. Part 3 will cover audio-only companions and regulars, because Brax and Narvin deserve a pie chart in the face too.
CRAZY STUFF (and explanations) UNDER THE CUT…
