Countering Negatives with Positives I am fortunate to be a working stay at home mom - I refer to myself as a ‘mompreneur’. My business is to help people achieve optimal health and then coach others to do the same. You know that nagging inner voice, that one we all get at times? The one that says you’re just not good enough, you failed, you’re this or you’re that, or you’re not this or not that? These thoughts can quickly become a vicious circle of negative thoughts that can make you feel downright crappy about yourself and who needs that? So, what do we do about it? When we counter every negative thought with a positive affirmation we compliment ourselves. This can be harder to do during times of stress, hormonal upheaval & lack of sleep but that is when it’s most essential to counter that negative with a positive! How about creating a list of everything positive you did that day before you go to bed every night? If you’re feeling down all you need to do is flip through that journal and you’ll feel better about yourself immediately :) One client I have the pleasure of working with is a lovely mom of four whose goal is to achieve her healthy weight through the Fresh Start Program and 180 Turnaround Plan. Changing your eating habits is not easy to do and she has been doing a fantastic job! Like most, she has been hampered at times by self-doubt and perceived failures. We spoke about this today and I encouraged her to counter every negative thought with something positive and what she wrote in response was so inspiring that I have to share it: “So here are some positives I'm going to focus on: 1. I used to go to Dunkins every morning before work!! Haven't been since 2016. I have a healthy Shaklee shake every morning instead. 2. I used to eat fast food everyday for lunch! I have only had it 3 times since 2016! 3. I hadn't had vegetables in I can't remember - since Jan 16th I now eat them DAILY!!! 4. I have been focused on good choices - and although I've had my moments of hormonal/stress eating - overall they have been pretty few since Jan 1st! 5. My face looks thinner to me. 6. I no longer mindless snack - haven't since 2016. 7. I used to never get calcium - I now have it daily in my shakes. 8. I have only had about 4 diet cokes since 2016. Drinking water and green tea instead. 9. I eat clean foods not processed...huge change for me!!! What I'm going to focus on: 1. Progress not perfection! 2. Putting myself first 3. Saying No 4. Clean foods” As you can see, she has come a long way towards reaching her personal goals. I am so impressed and inspired by her! I love, love, love her #1 goal she’s going to focus on “progress not perfection!” No one is perfect, nor will they be. Focusing on progress is key! We deserve to counter every negative thought we have about ourselves with something positive. We’re worth it! XO, Jen
