Jesse typed out his reply with one eye on the playground. There were a good twenty minutes of recess left, and since he had nothing better to do, he sat behind his desk and ran 'Eagle Mountain' through a search engine.

As an afterthought, he sent another message.

[txt] pearl, are ya a priest? google's saying there are temples in eagle mountain :o

[Text] ‘Half a jewel?’ How strange … how would one of your kids know my number? And somewhat accurate to my name …

[Text] Haha, he’s sending them to Eagle Mountain, so if u want some, you’ll have to go there! XD

[Text] And hi, Jesse, it’s nice to meet you! I’m Pearl! :)

Jesse raised his eyebrows at Greed's comment, a spark of darkness flickering in his throat. But he swallowed it down and bared his teeth.

"I don't like surprises," he said. "And you're quite the aggravation. But if we were associates, I could overlook such a glaring flaw."

Jesse's grin widened. He stepped forward, opening up his arms as he spoke. "I don't work with others either, unless it's necessary, or we can do something for one another."

Absently, his hand drifted to the edges of his deck, fingers running over the protective plastic. He glanced at Greed, eyeing his reaction. "Earlier, you asked about jewels, and perhaps I can help. That is, if you want to assist with my proposition?"

As soon as he stood straight again, he began wiping the remains off his shield before said remains began to glow golden and remove themselves like they were dust that was blown away by a breeze. Needless to say that confused the homunculus but at least his shoes weren’t stained anymore.

 “That was bizarre — But whatever.”

“I wasn’t the one who got all moody and send their pet dragon after someone who happened to stumble into their cave, so don’t even try to turn the tables on this.”

His claw came to rest on his hip as he looked at Jesse, of course Greed was still suspicious and showed that by cocking his head smugly.

   “Together? I don’t work with others. If you were to work for me              however, that would be a completely different story.”

Roses ❧ Are you in love?

Jesse rolled his eyes; this question came up too often, no matter who he spent time with. Even his family had taken to asking about significant others who may be lurking on the horizon.

"I ain't in love," he shrugged. "Unless ya count with dueling!"

My my, this one was touchy. Jesse waved a hand, dismissing Vanitas' anger. This was fun, if a little too easy to get a reaction.

"Information, you're selling me information," he drawled. "If you don't know what information you possess... Well, that's not exactly the best sales plan, is it?"

"This dimension is full of wishes... Sparkling jewels, an army of breathtaking women, guilty blood beneath your nails. Anything at all."

Jesse offered a sickly sweet smile.

"Tell me what you want, and maybe, just maybe, I'll scratch your back."

«✘» “If you already know about this place then you should stopbothering me with questions about it.” Vanitas flared, his eyes mere slits as he glared over at the guy. He didn’t like people who danced around what they actually wanted, especially if the danced around him. He was not about to put up with it.

He wondered what kind of information this guy would even want from him. It’s not like his plans really involved him at all. Maybe there was something he was searching for? Vanitas wouldn’t know unless he asked, but right now he wasn’t liking the guy’s tone. The fact that he thought things in this land were fun to play with. At the moment that was just the two of them, and Vanitas didn’t come here to be played with.

“Price hm?” He eyed the other, seriously thinking about the question. “I can’t really tell you the price when I don’t know what I’mselling to you.”

Jesse let out a small sigh of relief, eyes darting up to Syrus' face. Had he noticed the way Jesse's hands seemed to shake? But Jesse was lucky, he knew that much. Lucky to have someone like Syrus even talk to him, lucky to have food on the table, lucky to be alive.

Maybe Syrus wanted to speak, too, but there was so much to say it was difficult to start. Then again, maybe Syrus had nothing to say that he wanted to hear, and all this politeness, these fragile words, were nothing more than a facade. A simple play to be acted out. And when curtains rose, they had to be ready to slip into their roles.

At Syrus' comment, Jesse managed a small chuckle. It tasted like obligation.

"So, we just gotta leave the food here?" Jesse held the wobbling smile as he got to his feet and waited for Syrus to lead the way. Would he ever be able to talk to Syrus, really talk, or would Act Two continue in the same way?

Syrus’ mind drifted off ever so slightly. What had happened still haunted all of them, but it would be of no use to dwell on past mishaps. He had left this self of him behind a long time ago and would love to keep it that way. With his consciousness focusing on the conversation again pale eyebrows turned into a frown for a moment as the odd request. Wouldn’t the gem-user know that by now?

Either way, he wouldn’t ridicule him and turn down the request. “Sure.” By the time they’d come back the places might be occupied by others, but that was a risk he was willing to take. He noticed that something was off about them meeting in the first place. They barely ever talked alone, if not Judai another one of their friends would accompany them and be the lead - the younger had a hard time recalling them acting light-hearted around one another.

At first he had blamed this rivalry about his big bro, just the way Tyranno had bared in uninvited. But instead of bringing them closer together as friends and a team, things with Jesse stayed rather neutral. It could have been worse at this point though, he figured. “This place is really huge! It’s a maze compared to Slifer Red and even Ra Yellow!” Syrus chuckled at the comparison, which was more or less suitable. “No wonder you haven’t passed by it yet!”

"Great, so that's all that done an' dusted," Jesse nodded, cracking his neck left and right. He rolled his shoulders one by one.

"An' I say that's enough for today. Let's get some grub an' start the real deal some other time." Glancing at Kimiko, he continued.

"Ya wanna go to Obelisk or Slifer for lunch? There’s hear tell that Obelisk Blue's got the better food, but I don' know if they can top Ms. Dorothy's fried shrimp at the Slifer Dorm..."

She smiled, noticing Ruby's fur bristle as her Duel Spirit appeared for only a moment. Looks like the two would have to learn to get along if they wanted to complete this project.

She shrugs her shoulders, still leaning on the desk. "Writing ain't so bad, I can always tackle the writing stuff." She remarks casually. Besides, she didn't actually have any other previous decks to work with; she'd been running this Light deck since she could remember.

Kimiko almost stops herself from sighing in relief. Thank God he's got another deck to spare. "That should work just fine." She agrees, "We can analyze your deck and I can write up the final report."

Jesse stepped back at the sight that appeared before him. As wings widened across the sky, the thoughts clicked into place and his mouth dropped open. His wide eyes settled on that swinging metal tip.

The words stuck in his throat. It was almost fascination that made his heart race. This -- this thing, it looked so much like his true form, so much like the spirit swirling through the veins of this body. Jesse drew back his shoulders.

"Well, well, well," he managed, raking his eyes over the creature's interesting body as he raised his voice. "What do we have here?"

"Whatever you do, please don't hurt little ol' me!" he squealed. He tilted his head and raised his palms in a gesture of mock surrender.

Swallowing down the tight ball that seemed to have lodged in her throat, she licked over painfully dry lips. Her hiding spot, having seemed like a small miracle in this place, was starting to look less like a haven and more like a slowly enclosing cell.

Fear was lancing through her system each second as she mulled over the apparent threat that the boy had given out to her. And with fear came the inevitable surge of anger that she threw up to quell the shaking in her limbs and used instead to grind her teeth.

How odd that a handful of words could so quickly change a person’s opinion?

Standing up from her hiding spot, she faced the boy. Unfurling her wings to their fullest, making sure her tail swung more than usual to show off the metal spike at it’s tip.

Forget not scaring him. If it was a game of intimidation, then she was going to play it hard.

“Fancy words coming from someone who walked out the wrong end of a belt shop”, she called out to him, folding her arms tightly across her chest.
