Earlier this summer I did a mermaid sketch in one of my new small sketch books. I would take it with me in my purse but then life got a bit crazy busy. Some how the picture had gotten water on it and probably the water had been pressed at times while it was wet. But I think this is one of those happy accidents that happen to art, where it added a cool effect that really seemed fitting. If something like this has ever happened to you guys, I would love to read about your story. I have read artists accidentally dropping coffee on a picture and just really making it so much better and in result inspiring them to create coffee spill art. Hmmm, perhaps I shall brainstorm this idea #art #story #mermaid #sketch #sketchbook #instagramartist --- ~Facebook.com/jhauthcommissions ~Patreon.com/jhauth ~Soteh.deviantart.com

Talk about ART BLOCK!
Hi friends!
-----In this blog entry, I have something amazing to share with you! I was cleaning a corner of our bedroom yesterday while my son was playing. I turned around and looked down at what little David was doing and I saw him have a permanent sharpie in his hand and was scribbling on one of his wooden blocks. I stood there for a sec with the most strange and wonderful feeling. As an artist mom, I felt so.. proud. He has always been good at holding crayons, and have an interest in picking up pens he finds and manages to reach around the house. But in that moment I saw him drawing and look up at me, kind of smiling and continue to draw. This was a playing wooden block, and it deemed it okay for him to color on it. I let him draw a couple minutes more while I watch.. then had him switched out his sharpie with an orange washable Crayola marker. Ha, he is 1 years old- he doesn’t need to be accidentally getting permanent ink on him.

-----Look at it! So Beautiful. :) This little wonderful moment really kick-started me into creating an art area in our living room with a desk and all of our supplies. (I have a lot! And in super need of organization.) I moved everything last night and just have the organizing part to do next. So that will be my fun task for the next day or so.

Speaking of my sonny boy, here is a couple of snapshots of him in his Halloween costume. His grandma Leilani got it for him. (The Hauth's have a thing for penguins. His dad and Grandpa have a little “penguin fight” love ritual they do.) We didn’t go trick or treating, instead, we strolled to the store. I was dressed up as a Monster Mom~ I looked at all the candy packages at the store and couldn’t find a single candy that I could get for him. Every single one seemed to have been made on equipment that also processed peanuts. I couldn’t in good faith give him that kind of candy since he had a peanut reaction and deemed allergic to peanuts. He has a epi-pen and everything, but I don’t want to have to use it! Sooooo he got COLORFUL FRUITY MINI MARSHMALLOWS! Which he absolutely loves. We really have to give him more natural sweet things for little snacks and treats. I don’t know if a lot of other 1-year-olds eat a lot of chocolate and candy, but my baby boo just won’t get that. But he does love fresh fruit and I don’t think he will care. He finds so much joy in just regular food. This kid gets so excited when it’s mealtime.

-----I wanted to also share with you all one of the pictures I added to my Patreon. It’s a little picture I have matched up with the Butterfly effect tier. This is the tier that people can choose to pledge $5 monthly to support my artwork and help with much more art and products to be shared. I am working on the other images to add to my tiers to add a little extra flair to my Patreon page. We are into week two of the page being launched, and this next Wednesday will be out first –bi-weekly- sketch giveaway. Those who pledge $5 will get their name placed in a drawing to win a free sketch from me.
Thank you all for reading my little blurbs of life and art!

Happy Halloween Everyone! The day for costumes, candy, and silly giggles.
Have a safe holiday, whether you are tricking or treating.
---- About the attached art: This was an image I drew for my mom. When I was younger, I would draw her a desktop picture for her computer at work for mothers day. It was a yearly thing for a long time. This picture features my sister, brother, and myself. And it is symbolically showing how sometimes life makes it where we are wearing masks, but when you get to know someone more personably sometimes they surprise you in being super ecstatic and goofy!

Art Spotlight of the day:
This was from 2012, Jack Sparrow and Ariel. I was obsessed with this couple and I think I even have another page on my tumblr with majority of the pictures I drew back then. I should redraw them for good ‘ol times sake. :)

Hi friends!
I am going to be using this blog a lot more often. What my plan is, that while I am working on my designs for work, or when I’m on the computer and think about something or anything in general, I am going to write it down and make an entry when I have a sketch to upload along with it. I am wanting to get a lot more of my ideas and thoughts and everything out of my mind. Sometimes when I am alone and drawing, I think of a lot of things that I seem to loseor just never get around to putting in action.
I wanted to keep track of the things that I am doing in my life that I am working toward so I can become more efficient and healthier overall. One of these things I am doing is eliminating naps during the day. I know that sounds silly to some, a nap during the day. That’s pretty easy not to do. But it can be a bit of a challenge for myself. I work at home and I breastfeed my son at least 4 times within 24 hours a day. In the morning, after lunch/his nap time, when it is time for him to go to bed at night (9:30pm) range, and in the middle of the night- normally around 4 am. This 4 am one is a bit extra, doctors and people have said just try to rock him to sleep and cuddle him to sleep. But that has just almost never happened. He knows what he wants, a midnight snack. And really has done so since he was born. I guess I have taken the –feed on demand- approach for the most part over the last year. Well, back to the subject at hand. Naps. So I have quite a bit of opportunity to just sneak to sleep myself, but I have found it is more harm than good to sleep during the day. Especially on a weekday when I need to be getting work done. That when I stop and sleep, it becomes harder to get in the rhythm of my day all over again. I am on day 3 of no naps. The first day was really hard, I kept almost dozing off. But right now, I have found the right times to caffeinate to be staying awake. Mainly just a cup of coffee in the morning, and a soda OR energy drink in the afternoon. The only problem I have faced so far is that by the time it is night, around 10pm, I am asleep for the long haul and have been setting alarms to wake up in 6 hours and just keep snoozing it. I don’t see this being good in the long run at the moment. I need to be awake at night designing a lot of the times since it is the best time while my son is asleep to concentrate. But we will see how this plays out. Perhaps the increased time during the day may even it out. But not 100% sure yet.
I am a freelance artist and I am trying to find the best solution for balance as a mom, a wife, and a stay-at-home artist.
The attached image is a Work in Progress view of the holiday cards I am working on this year to sell at my Society6 shop. Stay tuned for when I announce those are ready. I may be a bit late in the game of making holiday items already, but this is my first year and poorly planned. But I will live and learn, and plan better next year. J
For some reason “it is what it is.” Is one cliché saying that is just really getting to me lately. I guess this is more due to family reason. That settling with people just having poor behavior towards others, especially family member, shouldn’t be –just.. it is what it is..- People should realize when they are hurting others with their words and actions, they need to take that into account and realize those people won’t be around much longer if they expect others to just accept the negativity and toxicity the are reeking. Okay. That was random and glimpse towards my personal burns. But I just felt the need to write that little opinion down. I have heard that writing is good therapy.. haha, so there we go!
Thank you all for listening/reading my babbles!

Might I invite you to the idea of what purchasing custom art can do for you?
*I have had clients in the past order a drawing from me to customize their child's birthday invitation. Their child was transformed into their favorite superhero for the invites!
*So many love to get tattoos but might not be in love with the flash cards that are provided in the shop. If you have an idea for your tattoo, I offer a process that will result in your perfect idea being put to paper- then you can take it to your tattoo parlor to get it to skin. Having your design in hand makes it all work out easier and save you from accidentally getting something you may regret in the moment.
*Other ideas that ordering art can do for you is getting a business logo or business card design created. Take your business that step further in professionalism.
So if you or anyone you know think they too could benefit from a custom art creation, please send a message here on Tumblr or you can email me at [email protected] and let me know how I can be of assistance~ Thanks!

Hi Everyone! I have launched my Patreon page for anyone who would like to support me as an artist, and get some special perks along the way. I only have 2 pledge options at the moment, but plan to offer more soon. I am still learning about this site and the best way to go about things. Feel free to check it out though! Thanks all. I ultimately want to be able to get a community created to get to know more people who are interested in my success as an artist and just all get to support one another!

Ariel and her pretty pink dress. This challenge is quickly becoming a collection of mixed medium drawings that start out with ink only. I just see ways to fix things with other mediums and just go with it to make it that much more of a complete picture.
