I just was hit by a realization after talking to a Japanese friends a couple of days ago.

It is still very commonly seen as a woman's "job" to make sure the fetus grows healthy and as expected.

Meaning that in traditional families there's still a good chance that the mother is going to be blamed for any undesirable physical/developmental traits the child might have.

Within the JJK universe women in the clans have a weak footing to begin with. But just....the amount of blame that was probably placed onto the wives that birthed undesirable offspring. Like Mai's and Maki's mom. Noritoshi's step-mom who couldn't birth a son with the clan technique.

Imagine the fear and pressure these women were under during pregnancy.
