On Batman's no Kill rule
For some godforsaken reason in today's horrible age, Batman's no kill rule has both been pushed too far and been criticized ridiculously.
Batman doesn't kill people, not because he thinks it's immoral, or it puts him above others, but because he is a vigilante. And don't get me wrong, Batman is most certainly a vigilante and not a superhero.
Vigilante is a fine line to walk, you go too far one way, and you become a villain, go too far the other and you aren't effective.
When a vigilante like Batman becomes judge, jury, and executioner, they become a villain. It becomes the moral question of where do you draw the line?
You only kill killers? Well, what about the drug dealer who sold the opioids a sixteen-year-old overdosed on? What about the assaulter who caused such trauma that the victim killed themselves? What about the mega corporation who denied a life-saving treatment or surgery? Do you go all the way to the insurance agent? Down to the doctor?
The reason he doesn't want any of his protรฉgรฉ's killing people isn't because he thinks it will stain them (I definitely think him reviving Joker is a bastardization of his no killing rule and Batman as a character) it's because he doesn't want to have to take them out.
So stop it with the "Batman should kill people" because you're missing the point of Batman as a character, he's supposed to be a supplemental force that helps the city until the day the police can take care of it on their own and undermining their authority by being an executioner would stop him from ever being able to retire, never mind for Gotham to be truly free and safe city.

Adding onto this post because I'm a loser.
Something else that MCU does that really pisses me off is that they don't properly show how much Peter struggles to be a moral person. When he gets his powers in many universes, his first thought isn't "I can help so many people" it's "I can make money by being an underground wrestler".
When Peter is then screwed by whoever or whatever circumstances, he has the opportunity to stop the criminal, but he chooses not to because it wouldn't do anything for him and in many worlds the thief helps him out in amazing spider-man he gives Peter a chocolate milk that he was ten cents short for when he's wrestling and gets shorted in the Tobey Maguire Spider-man the criminal gives him a few hundred bucks.
And because Peter didn't stop that man when he had the power to and Uncle Ben tries to when he doesn't... Peter himself is not a highly moral person, but he realizes that he needs to be. As a person with the ability to help he needs to in order to make up for his inaction quite directly leading to the death of his father figure.
As far as we're aware, Tom Holland's Peter Parker didn't have that event. He really is so watered down as to be just a cute little guy with a couple of sassy lines from a deeply complex character who struggles with his own morality and yet needs so desperately to help the little guy, help people like his uncle who can't help themselves.
Why I hate MCU Spider-Man
I'm going to preface this by saying that I do NOT hate Tom Holland nor do I think he was poorly cast or a bad actor.
Tom Holland could have been an amazing Spider-Man, he's got the small nerdy vibes that are low-key needed for the role to work properly, brown hair, brown eyes, cute as a button-- all that crap.
But damn did the writers do him dirty.
Spider-Man is a lone wolf, he has friends eventually but especially in his first years he's notorious for squaring up when anyone in a mask approaches him. But that's just the tip of the iceberg.
Peter Parker does NOT like shield, he doesn't like people knowing who is he what he's doing, where he's going, and above all else his goal is to help the little guy.
Of course there are stories that pull this off well, Ultimate Spider-Man did a good job of having Peter working with a team and SHEILD without straying too far from the character.
He's your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. And the MCU ruined that.
Instead of being a traumatized genius who's full of rage and sass in equal measure he turned into some wimpy UwU nepo baby. (This is not helped by the fact that I also dislike Tony Stark, All Tony Stark's MCU or otherwise)
And as previously stated I hate it.
Now my reasons for hating it are far more petty than I'd like to admit but I'm here for transparency so here it is. Tom Holland Spider-Man has infected my fan fiction, spideypool, spideydevil, angst fics, happy fics, gwen fics, MJ fics, Spider-Man in general, all of my fics.
I do NOT want Dead Pool and MCU Spider-Man kissing and or dating in ANY circumstance where with my boy comic or Amazing or literally any other conglomeration of Peter Parker's it can lead to some really interesting dynamics and fun times.
And I know-- he's current MCU he's going to be popular people love what's going on right now, but please please for the love of all things unholy keep your little nepo baby 50 feet or MORE away from anything I love at all times.

Why are so many people so aggro about the Song Of Achilles?
Like is it just a retelling of the Iliad yes, but retellings aren't bad. Arthurian legends, Percy Jackson, Hercules, so many stories are retold again and again only adding to their depth and bringing more people to the circles who like the originals. Saying rude things like it's a glorified fan fiction takes away from the fact that it's a well written book that brought more readers to classic works like the Odyssey and the Iliad.
Do I think it was the most amazing book ever written? no. Do I think it's just annoying to demean people's tastes just because they don't want to read a very wordy and hard to understand classical novel translated in seven different ways from ancient Greek? Yes.
Let people like what they like and stop being jerks about it.

The protagonist of the story is the person you're following, not the good guy.
I know we're taught protagonist = hero and antagonist = villain as kids, but that's not really how that works.
The antagonist is just the group/person going against the protagonist.
I'm saying this because I've seen a lot of stuff recently talking about how they love stories that reveal the protagonist is actually the antagonist. But again, that's not really how that works.
It can be revealed that the Protagonist isn't good or is even the villain of the story as a whole, but that doesn't mean that they're ousted from their position as the person the story is following.
Protagonist = main character/people we follow
Antagonist = whoever the hell the main character/s are going against.

The reason the new Star Wars movie with Kylo Ren and Rey are so very sucky is that instead of having the second generation of the new Jedi setting out across the universe and facing the darkness of the force for the first time while trying to find where Jedi fit it the new world they were just like "And all the Jedi are dead again."
Which A: Has already been done and B: completely destroys how the original trilogy ended.
A good sequel doesn't undo what the original accomplished, unless of course the original was a tragedy and everything ended horribly (i.e. Anakin). A good sequel expands on parts of the world and story that were uncomplete, took a back seat to the plot, or the author simply didn't have the time to figure out.
Do you know how killer Rey and Kylo could have been as a Jedi duo setting out amongst the vast universe? Yes Rey is a bit of a Mary Sue, and yes Kylo pisses me the hell off (Like come on? The kid of Leia and Han Solo shouldn't be so loserific) but seeing them as young newly knighted a pair of dual protagonists each struggling with the pull of the dark side, one fighting it and the other embracing it fully.
That would have been amazing. We could have gotten all the political struggles from the Clone wars paired with the novelty of Jedi's kicking around the universe again, helping people, stopping crime, and occasionally fucking up.
We could have seen Luke doing his best to truly keep the Jedi as a neutral good force, we could have seen a new Jedi council begin to form.
The sequels had such potential but instead they treated it like a universe reboot.

Can we stop pretending that universes with superheroes aren't just fantasy worlds? If I have to see one more video talking about how "actually in the real world that would have killed/permanently crippled/caused irreparable damage" I'm going to shoot someone. I watch Superheroes for moral dilemmas and political discourse I don't give a fuck about how old Bruce Wayne or Dick Grayson is getting-- we can talk about that once they hit like 50 minimum.
In the same stream- I don't want my superheroes having panic attacks. I understand that mental health is very important and should be talked about but unless the point of your story is the horrors of war and the way that fighting for your entire life can affect you I don't care.
If a superhero starts having panic attacks especially in the middle of important moments then they just straight up can't be a superhero anymore, and if that's your point go for it but for the love of god stop just throwing it into stories to make heroes feel more human.

"If you use em dash in your works, it makes them look AI generated. No real human uses em dash."
Imaging thinking actual human writers are Not Real because they use... professional writing in their works.
Imagine thinking millions of people who have been using em dash way before AI becomes a thing are all robots.

This is a 100% real question that I need a genuine response to.
Do people like to read in present tense?
I hate reading present tense-- unless it's a short story horror in second person.
I physically cannot read books that are fully written in present tense and neither can most of the people in my family. Is this just a we're freaks situation? Or is this a common reason that people drop books

Can people please stop pretending like Tanjiro isn't an interesting and deep character just because he didn't react to his family dying by becoming a psychopath?
He's kind. That's the whole point of his character. He doesn't really need to have an arch in which he develops as a person because that's not the focus of demon slayer. That doesn't change that he's smart, courageous, full of rage, and a deeply caring character. He shows empathy to demons, to the people who tore his family away from him. and that takes true strength.
Also, he's not just naturally talented?? I have no idea where this even came from-- he studied sword training for two entire years before he even took final selection, after every major battle he has to train to get back into shape and become stronger. He never just spontaneously becomes better. Yes he knows sun breathing but he actually can't stand the strain it puts on his body and he has to supplement it using different breathing forms, he never actually masters water, sun, or any other type of breathing which in all honesty makes him a stronger opponent. Jack of all trades master of none type of deal.
It's not like he picked up a sword and spontaneously was a demon murdering machine which a lot of people act like he did.

Public service announcement!
If your kid really likes the Wolf King series on Netflix and you're thinking of letting them read the Wereworld books maybe wait a few years. The books are definitely for an audience of at least the age of twelve and maybe a little older.
Drew literally eats off the were-rat's face and then lights him on fire. and that is perhaps one of the least gorey things that happens in these books. So TV-Y7 for the show sure! the books are definetly in the YA range of 12+.

Would people who like Korra please stop responding to someone saything they don't like her by being like "WoUlD YoU liKe HeR iF sHe Was A mAn?!?!?!??!"
because the answer is fuck no-- and neither would you.
You're going to look me in the eyes and say if everyone was gender swapped and Korra was dating freaking Bolin and cheated on her with her sister anyone would like him? Or when she kisses Mako while he's dating Asami?
The ONLY redeeming factors about Korra are that she's a woman and Bi. but that doesn't mean I have to like her!
She's rude arrogant, and never really gets character development. and the whole avatar state yip yip thing she's got going on really pisses me off. Like she literally goes full avatar state just to win a race with a child.
And I have to be fully honest here the way they introduced her truly made me despise her. I'm sure some people like the whole "IโM THE AVATAR" six-year-old but I freaking hated it.
It set the tone for the whole series of Korra doing straight up arrogant things and having zero skills to back it up.
All Korra does is get her ass beat pretend to learn from her mistakes and then get her ass beat again.
So no I don't like Korra and I wouldn't even feel bad about it if she were a man instead.

Look I know this is an absolute pipe dream, but what I want more than anything in any live action/recent Batman movie is for them to come out of left field with an obscure Batman Villain.
My pick is of course Baby Doll or Mary Louise Dahl. She could be a truly terrifying villain on screen and it would give more of a hand to the mystery side of batman that is often overlooked for the punching out bad guys side.
Think about it sitting in the theater trying to piece together the puzzle because it's not one of the six villains that are recycled over and over again. I get it the Joker is scary and Scarecrow gives you a great excuse to jump on poor Bruce's trauma. Poison Ivy is sexy and deadly all at once, the Riddler of course has great potential for both comedy and horror, the Penguin is something of a blank canvas for different directors to dress up however they please. Catwoman is a given-she'll always be there a love interest and an enemy all in one.
But they've been done to hell and back.
Give me niche villains, sad, silly, downright ridiculous, and make me scared. Show me the horror behind a woman who's been trapped in a child's body and desperately wants to be taken seriously but finds that in a world full of roadblocks she's forced back into a role she came to hate.
Show me the softer side of Batman who wants nothing more than to help those in need. Or give me Batman who's trying to deal with the political games being played by characters like Hugo Strange who gets off on making people go absolutely batty. Give me Deacon Blackfire and his young and easily influenced cult who could have been something else if someone had just reached out a hand when they were in need.
Give me a Batman of substance, show me the Batman who cares about more than just beating up the bad guys, show me Bruce with his bleeding heart who every time he learns about a someone else he couldn't help sets up another charity.
Batman is a symbol of vengeance, he's meant to be terrifying. But that's not all he is, he's a detective who's trying to better Gotham in any way he can, he's a character who cares so deeply about his city and it's inhabitants that he's willing to give his life for them.
Show me Batman sympathizing with his villains even as he locks them away. Give me cameos in later movies of villains who've been truly rehabilitated and are doing their best to lead an honest life.

When you're writing a Cinderella retelling it's very important that you can see a glimmer of goodness in the stepchildren. A split second where they aren't as horrible as they possibly could have been.
The importance of the stepsisters in the Cinderella tale is to highlight that it's how you're raised that shapes you as a person. Cinderella was raised with love and taught that kindness is what matters above everything else. Her stepsisters are a direct parallel to that, whether the stepmother and siblings are a caring family unit separate from Cinderella doesn't particularly matter. What matters is that they weren't taught to treat others with kindness.
A stepsister or sibling doesn't have to pull through at the last second but they do need to have just a moment something to show that if they were raised in a different household they could have been good.

I will always and forever be of the opinion that Hunk and Keith are the best Voltron ship.
Yeah, sure the inherent eroticism of two bickering red and blue colored gays is hot- but instead consider the soft but strong and unconditional love of the kind yellow coded character that brings balance to the hot headed red character.
I'm a sucker for quiet love. Love that doesn't need to be explosive or loud to be steady. I think Heith gives me more of that than Klance ever has.
