Not sure if this has been answered yet, but I just noticed how interesting the whole draconification thing is depicted in Totk. As per Mineru's explanation, the act is forbidden because you gain the ultimate benefit with the ultimate sacrifice, ie. All the life, power and magic(?) In exchange for body, mind and soul. Yet both Zelda and Ganondorf don't appear to lose all those traits... partially.
I'm really only pulling this from the final battle (ie the demon dragon fight) but I found it interesting how the Demon Dragon, although clearly a bit mindless, still retains Ganondorfs goal of killing Link. It honestly seems more focused than even Dark Beast Ganon at this goal, which is interesting considering draconification sounds like a WAY bigger sacrifice than what the calamity was presented as in terms of Ganondorfs role (ie. The he gave up reincarnation in favor of becoming malice - but not sure if this is still relevant now with totk ganon's story). Similarly, Zeldas dragon was shown to be pretty mindless in line with the proposed sacrifice, however once the Demon Dragon showed up, she was also immediately focused on stopping it - which was Zeldas goal from before transformation.
Just rambling but I wonder if perhaps Triforce holders are somewhat immune to the effects of draconification or retain some of their mind ever so slightly due to their role in the balance of the world? And I wonder too how this connects to Farosh, Naydra and Dinraal and who they were prior to draconification and whether anything could happen to draw out their dormant consciousness too...
Tldr: the concept of draconification in Totk fascinates me and I'm so curious about who the other 3 dragons are/were

You got the makings of greatness in you, but you got to take the helm and chart your own course. Stick to it, no matter the squalls! And when the time comes you get the chance to really test the cut of your sails, and show what you’re made of… well, I hope I’m there, catching some of the light coming off you that day.

He did it. He found her :')
So I beat totk for the first time today and... my god. What a game. Everything about totk just built and expanded upon the foundations laid by botw in the best way possible. Where botw was all about Link finding himself, totk was all about Link finding Zelda and bringing her home. Where botw's main motivation was to destroy calamity ganon, totk was only ever about Zelda. From chasing the ghost of her around hyrule, to that memory in Akkala which broke us all. I quite literally couldn't help but openly cry watching Zelink reunite, realizing how much they've been through together. The confidence with which Link finally grabs Zeldas hand as they fall says it all - he's done. They're done. It's all over and it's time to go home - together. This iteration of them has been through lifetimes and generations of war and turmoil, and it's time for the end of their journey.
And GANONDORF.
Tumblr media
What an INCREDIBLE return for the big bad man himself for the first time in over 10 years! While I lived the lore and concept of calamity ganon, there was just something missing with it in botw. But it was all worth it for this grand return. I never doubted nintendo wouldn't handle Ganon well, but they absolutely blew me away with his design, story and of course, his battle. Even in the memories, the false show of fealty to the kingdom right before he usurped power was so reminiscent of OoTs Ganondorf, which I LOVED. And this was easily of the BEST Ganondorf fights in the whole series IMHO. The music, atmosphere, multiple phases and the brutal strength of his swings. He was strong, ruthless, and terrifying in the best way, especially with his blind desire for victory. Where Zelda was terrified to swallow her stone, Ganondorf took it in stride - which is extra scary given he definitely knew the consequences of his actions.
These 2 stories (botw and totk) are so dear to my heart, and it's crazy to imagine that totk is very likely the end of this era of Hyrule and this Link and Zelda. But, what a fitting send off for them! 100 years and 10 000+ years out of their own time, but together through it all and bonded forever. I hope they live out the rest of their lives together in Hateno ❤️
Thank you Nintendo ❤️

I cannot believe how much I missed botw and I truly think replaying it once you finish totk gives you the full experience of the story. I’m at the point that I cannot separate the games story wise. Together it is just wonderful.
Because while so many people have said they have no need to play botw or that totk essentially disregarded botw…. The first game was ALL about Zelda and Link’s relationship. It was THEIR development.
It was understanding who THEY are as characters. To see the trauma unfold and for Link to recover his memories and find who he is NOW versus what he was before. All of this led to totk and how Link’s sole personal mission is to find Zelda. It’s HIS motivation.
He KNOWS where Zelda is once the Tears of the Dragon quest is completed. But that means NOTHING to him. Because Zelda isn’t home. She’s not with him. And that is the reason the Tears of the Dragon quest is so gut wrenching.
Because unlike botw where they had nothing but memories, the world they called home was long gone in the past, the friends they made nearly all gone… this new Hyrule is their home. It is THEIR kingdom that they are rebuilding. They have friends in each of the lands, they have built a new life together and home isn’t the same unless they’re together.
(And I feel like anyone who felt scorned by the Hateno House being called ‘Zelda’s House’ in the localizations really missed the implications of the game’s entire context but like that’s just my opinion)
Anyway I’m emotional about zelink bc I’m doing the dlc in botw today and finishing the game this week so I can replay totk on a separate account :)

*Me waking up in a cold sweat at 3am*
I JUST REALIZED NINTENDO GAVE US THE BIGGEST TOTK SPOILER IN EVERY TRAILER BECAUSE OF THE MUSIC. ZELDAS LULLABY AT THE END OF THE TEASERS & TRAILERS WAS THE FORESHADOWING. THE LULLABY, OBVIOUSLY BEING ZELDA, AND THE TUNE BEING PLAYED ON THE ERHU OF ALL INSTRUMENTS, WHICH IS MOST PROMINENTLY USED IN THE DRAGON THEMES IN BOTW. THEY LITERALLY GAVE IT TO US FROM THE VERY BEGINNING. IM GONNA D WORD

BOTWs best main story quest was Divine Beast Vah Ruta and TOTKs best main story quest was Tulin of the Rito. No, I will not be taking comments at this time.
But seriously, they're amazing and really set the tone for the rest of the games' respective stories. The impact on the plot and lore, the music, the battle, and the abilities gained are so god tier. And it's not surprising to me that both of these quests tend to be the first ones we go after in their respective games.

I know a lot of people are theorizing the presence of Hylia in totk but after the new trailer, I'm doubling down on the theory that the "Lend him your power" line is Zelda asking the green hand entity (that was holding down dehydrated ganon) to lend Link it's power - hence why his CRISPY arm got POLISHED - and the arm will be what connects him (and Zelda) to the story of the ancient hero and perhaps the ancient kingdom in the sky.
Tumblr media
And the green thing is DEFINITELY either a Zonai diety OR Ancient Link (who was maybe Zonai himself??) IMHO and I'm so excited to find out.
