Yes, you’re absolutely able to do that! Just make sure that you both write in your partner’s username on the question on the sign-up sheet where it asks if there’s anyone you would like to work with specifically as a predetermined pair

How strict is the word limit for fics? What would have to happen if a fic went over the limit? And can fics made for the event update to add another chapter or bonus scene after they have been posted for the minibang?

Hello! As mentioned in previous posts, while we recommend a 10k word limit for fics, we won't stop you from writing more! We've also had multiple authors in past years post the first chapter of a fic for posting day and continue updating the fic in the following weeks. Mostly, our word limit is set with the time limit of the event in mind and what's going to be achievable/realistic for most participants. We're happy if you feel you can write more, but it's never an expectation!

Are participants allowed to have a fic beta’d by someone outside of the project?

That should be alright as long as your beta reader knows not to share any details of the fic until it's posted! We will also have the option for participants to volunteer to beta read other participants' work if they would like to.

It's almost time...signups for the 2025 Klapollo Minibang open today, April 26th, at noon EDT, and will be open until Saturday, May 17th!

In preparation for signups, please make sure you've read through the Rules/FAQ doc--there's important info on there that you'll need for the signup form. However, here's the answer to a few commonly-asked questions:

What IS a minibang, anyway?

A minibang is a smaller version of a fandom event known as a “Big Bang.” It’s an opportunity for artists and writers to collaborate to produce a 5k-10k fic and an illustration that goes with it. Writers and artists will be paired up, and will all post their work during the event’s specified posting window.

Can I write more than 10k?

Technically, yes--we won't stop you! But we typically advise trying to keep to the shorter word count and coming up with an idea that will be smaller in scope than you think you'll need it to be. It's always easier to expand a shorter fic than it is to cut down on a longer idea, and you never know what's going to happen in your life over the course of the minibang. If you need help trimming your ideas down, we're more than happy to help during the brainstorming period before your prompts are due in!

Who can participate?

Anyone who’s interested! We don’t have an age limit for participation—you just need to be able to commit to finishing either one art piece or one 5k-10k fic before the deadline.

What genres are permitted?

Any genre of fic/art is permitted as long as the final piece would not be rated higher than a T on AO3’s scale. For reference, we’re defining this rating tier as similar to a PG-13 movie, with Ace Attorney canon-typical levels of violence.

hi! just curious about when signups for 2025 are opening? I know that last year they were open around april - may so just checking in - in case i missed the post!

Hello! You've not missed anything yet--we've been hoping to get the post up, but signups should be opening very soon! Consider this a soft announcement: if all goes well, signups will be open between Saturday, April 26th and Saturday, May 17th.

That's also sort of a cue to start getting your story ideas ready--while you don't need one to sign up, it's a good idea to have a few things in mind that you think you can complete in roughly 7k-12k words.

As another helpful piece of information, we're thinking that posting day this year will be in mid-September, so keep that in mind when signing up!

I need help.

Panic races through Klavier's body. What could have happened? How could he help with Herr Forehead in Khura'in? It didn't matter if it was a murder, a bombing, or a fire : Klavier is just too far away.

“That bad?” she said, and Apollo laughed humorlessly and shook his head. His black tie was loose and crooked, as though he’d been tugging at it nervously all evening. And after she’d tied it for him so carefully too.

(Not that he couldn’t tie his own tie, of course. It was a skill he’d been proud to teach himself as a teenager, and he did it every day for work. But she liked to tie his ties for him, just as he liked to help her with the clasps of necklaces, pressing a kiss to the nape of her neck when she bowed her head so that he could reach.)
